After seeing the RE boost we've had in the last couple years, I'd be
shocked if the best selling game in the RE series can't beat Goldeneye,
which isn't really THAT strong. As somebody who's used your argument for RE2 to justify it barely upsetting SMRPG, I'll sig-bet right now that GE not only beats RE2 but wins with 5+% to spare. This is also why I don't have MGS1-3 doing anything worthwhile. Right, because the series wasn't big before MGS4. That's why MGS4 wasn't hyped enough to justify buying a PS3 ever since it launched. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

In RE's defense, I think the old games have been unfairly seen as a
joke ever since 2004. As I said before, RE drew what may have been its
worse possible opponent in Round 1. It was paired up against what was easily
the biggest PS1 entity without "Final Fantasy" in the title. If that
wasn't enough, that very entity then went on to get its own ass
SFF-handed to it. Contrast that with another Playstation title like
Symphony of the Night, which faced completely contrasting games and
looked a lot better. If their bracket positions had been switched, how
differently would we see the two today? Could Resident Evil have beaten

Dunno about "easily," but I can certainly RE winning, and I bet most
people here can as well. Now, knowing that SotN only beat Perfect Dark
with 53%, why is it unreasonable to think RE2 might just rival SotN's

I would have probably taken RE > PD pre-2004's results, though now
in hindsight I would think PD > RE for sure in 2004. RE's relying on
two awkward SFF-situations that we called SFF for after the fact, never
before. Solid Snake had his worst year by far in 2004, so MGS may have
done worse than usual too despite MGS:TTS; RE may have deserved to
normally lose by more than what we saw. C:SotN also kicked RE's ass in
the Top 100 List a year and a half after BGE1 (#15 to #53). You can make a case for RE to be stronger, but I'm not taking RE1 > C:SotN or even taking RE1 to get that close to C:SotN...I think we've tried to cut it a lot of slack, looking back on it, and we don't know how much of a break RE1 really deserves yet. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

You can make a case for RE to be stronger, but I'm not taking RE1 > C:SotN or even taking RE1 to get that close to C:SotN I wouldn't either, but I'm using to argue in favor of RE2, which I feel is stronger than the original. RE2 wasn't on the drop-down box, though here's a fun-fact: RE: Code
Veronica was...and didn't make the Top 100. Same goes for Metroid: Zero
