Yeah, FFIV should break 50%. FFIV > Tetris, MM3 > Donkey Kong,
Punch-Out > RCR, Space Invaders > Crystalis. Not sure if that
balance comes out in FFIV's favor, but even if not, Tetris cleared 50%

Match VIII: Crystalis vs. Final Fantasy II (IV) vs. Mega Man 3 vs. River City Ransom Information: Name: Crystalis Year: 1990 System: NES 2004 Performance: Did not enter Name: Final Fantasy II (IV) Year: 1991 System: SNES 2004 Performance: Did not enter Name: Mega Man 3 Year: 1990 System: NES 2004 Performance: Did not enter Name: River City Ransom Year: 1989 System: NES 2004 Performance: 31.99% against Pong Analysis The only past information that we have on this match is that River City Ransom is not worth much, which is something we would’ve guessed. All eyes are on Final Fantasy IV in this match because due to all the strong games being Nintendo in this quarter of the bracket either Final Fantasy IV or the original Final Fantasy being the strongest non-Nintendo game could take advantage of all the potential SFF and LFF and could potentially reach the semi-finals. When the bracket was first released I thought Crystalis would be the weakest entrant, but after seeing such entrants as Tecmo and Prince of Persia in the first seven matches I’m reconsidering that idea. Crystalis will still be one of the weakest entrants and will be thoroughly crushed in this match. Even among NES fans this game is often forgotten and with three NES games in this match we could see another repeat of Prince of Persia’s performance. In 2004 River City Ransom had some of the most vocal fans in the contest, they were so loud that River City Ransom > Pong was a popular upset pick. When River City Ransom not only lost, but was doubled by Pong the whining was the most extreme case I’ve ever seen, even worse than Street Fighter II. When most games lose fans would make a topic in shock of their favourite game losing and those topics usually died out by next match, but for River City Ransom we were reaching the final week of the contest and there were still topics about the lost. SFII is remembered more because the magnitude on the day of the match was so great rather than the constant whining that River City Ransom fans brought. Well for those fans they get what they want as River City Ransom should take third. Mega Man 3 was somewhat of a popular upset choice for first, but after Mega Man 2’s performance those people seemed to have disappeared. While Mega Man 2’s performance was very unimpressive I’m willingly to bet that most people inflated Mega Man 2’s percent after watching Tetris crush its opponents and raised their expectations. Unless Final Fantasy IV turns out to be a dud I see no reason for Mega Man 3 to take first though don’t start sounding the alarm next round if Mega Man 3 pulls a 58/42 match out of it. There’s a lot of support behind Final Fantasy IV. All Final Fantasy IV needs to do to reach the semi-finals is defeat Final Fantasy and hope Mega Man 3 doesn’t out do both of them next round. Final Fantasy IV is untested and could really backfire and flop really hard. I don’t see this being the case, but if there was going to be one Final Fantasy game that was going to flop by our expectations Final Fantasy IV would be that game. Well another boring match, though we get to watch Crystalis compete in the how low you can go contest. Mega Man has zero excuses in this match. If MM3 ends up looking bad this round, then his series just isn't as strong as we thought it would be. Also, I'm glad I went into the Match Pic topic and raised an objection about the original Crystalis submission. FFIV's pic is about as far from recognizable as you can get, which is
the problem with using any of the artwork from it. Sprites would have

CT is my top game of all time and I didn't buy the DS version. Keep in mind that poll was run rather close to the US release of FF4DS,
so the results may be skewed towards the remake option. Also keep in

Yes, those results are five years old but it's the only hard numbers everyone had to go on. Battletoads was regarded as a joke nomination that might get some votes, but had no chance of touching the titans in SMW or FF1. The only thing that really surprised everyone was PoP, it not only bombed this contest but it's likely going to be the Tanner or Mr. Driller of the contest (bottom of the barrel). HL1/HL2 were really close together in the Top 100 List (HL2 at #25, HL
at #31), and HL2 lost in a close one to MP2:E in the 2004-GotY while HL
was 56-44'd by MP earlier that year. I don't know the Valve fanbase
well outside of Portal, but HL2 60-40'ing HL is a tough sell in light

IMO HL2 ~= HL IMO, that's just plain wrong. HL2 is 6 years more recent, sold more, is liked more by the fanbase, has had The Orange Box console outings, and has had the Episodes to keep it recent. There's no reason for HL to be stronger. --- http://thengamer.com/guru/ |
