My intuition is that with likely 2 Mario games in that match, FF4 could
purely franchise vote its way in. AND it got a remake this year so it

I think FF1 is going to outright take the SFF split against FF4. To me
FF4 has always seemed like the forgotten child of FF. Before the series
really got popular, losing most of its support to the vastly more
popular FF6 on the SNES. I think I'm the only one who thinks that though. Of course I think Mega Man 3 will be the one there-- don't think SMW can hurt it quite enough to put it below LFFed low tier FFs, but assuming it isn't: My money is on FF1. --- So I lost a bet to creativename (yeah...hardly shocking). Like usual, I should've known better! FACT: Halo 3 was 1000% responsible for Master Chief's boost. |

| After MM2's bombing, there's no way I'd take MM3 to advance in round 2. If it was a 3-way poll without SMW in it I still wouldn't take it over FF1 and FF4. |

| Is it possible that FF1 is getting some sort of pic advantage? I'm not sure how much of a factor it is, but I can't deny that seeing all those sprites that remind me of the awesome 8-bit theatre memories influenced my vote. You think 8-bit theatre could be a factor, or have not enough people read it? |

| I don't see what common sense points to FF4 being
strong. FF4 being strong is not in the league of "it's freaking Mario"
it's not even close. I've always thought of it as an under appreciated

FF1 means a lot more to the NES than FF4
to the SNES. FF1 is one of the crown jewels of the NES, probably one of
the top 5 games on the system... FF4 is in a sea of RPGs, lucky to be
top 5 even just counting RPGs. FF1 has a good chance to win the SFF

It helps, though. It makes it stand out in memory more. "One of the
best and most memorable NES games" vs "another SNES RPG" FF1 definitely

I don't think that really matters. Being memorable on the NES doesn't
mean much of anything, I don't think. FF1 gets the majority of its
strength from franchise voting, when you take that away you're left
with which has the bigger fanbase. I haven't seen anything to say that
doesn't go decisively with FFIV, the same way it would go decisively
with FFVI in a match, and then decisively in favor of FFVII. These
aren't too hard to predict. I'd be honestly pretty surprised if FF1 was

.....this is ridiculous FF1 stood out because it was the only damn rpg on the NES that was even playable(and just barely by today's standards). FFIV is just another SNES RPG? NO NO NO NO NO! Especially when you put it up directly against FF1 with no other rpgs to interfere. I'm ready to account bet on this. Well I don't think those polls favor FF1. FF1 to me seems like a middle
of the road RPG as far as FF inequality hierarchies go meaning it gets
few votes in such polls, whereas FF4 has more fanboys but generally
will do worse in the grand scheme of things overall. That isn't to say the people who have FF1 in the middle of the road don't like the game, though. I wouldn't take that as a nail in the FF1 coffin that's all I'm sayin. FF1's franchise votes are overrated. --- So I lost a bet to creativename (yeah...hardly shocking). | Sometime in the deep night, Battletoads got cut by
PoP. Battletoads dropped off quite a lot in the deep night, which
probably allowed PoP to start pulling in better updates and increasing
its percentage. Damn, I liked seeing PoP below 3%, now it might finish

I'm actually pretty confident in Half-Life beating FFIX. It would probably get around the in mid-40's against FFIX (how much stronger can it be to the original FF, anyway?). Ocarina of Time is also going to kill it pretty bad (we've seen how well Gordon holds in stronger competition and Half-Life is no Gordon), and CC doesn't help as much, but it's still there. Mario didn't lose the morning vote to Final Fantasy, it did better from
6-8 than it did from 3-6. Just that it did so much better in the first

yesterday ruined my perfect score and todays mistake makes it worse.
How I did not catch my mistake of placinf Final fantasy above super
mario world I will never know. It was not intended. That all said and

It's never been in a contest, and performs like crap in all the favorite FF series polls. The only such poll giving it any credit is "Which old FF is your favorite?". What really stands out to me is what the casuals do in those polls. You know how "Final Fantasy III" gets a ton of votes because a lot of people think it's actually 6? "Final Fantasy II" never gets these votes, because it has no casual appeal. FF1 broke 40% on Mario 3, then came back 5 years later and proved it was no fluke. FF4 has to rely on two things: being as strong as FF1 in the first place (which we'll find out tomorrow, thankfully), and winning the split against FF1. The latter is total guesswork, so I won't even argue the point. I'm peeved I didn't stick with my FF1 > Mario World upset in round 3.
