Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. They have everything. This is from the previous topic, posting it here because that topic
will be closing very soon and there is some debate to be had. From: hikaruai | #478 SMB3 must SFF Sonic 1 in order for SF2 to get out of Round 2. Monkey Island is complete fodder, it finished ahead of two other pieces of fodder and will be crushed in Round 2. SMW killed Sonic 2 in 2004 proving there is Mario > Sonic SFF relating to their old-school rivalry. So, there is evidence that Sonic is SFF by Mario but judging from the impressive victory Sonic 1 had nobody knows to what degree. Though it's still a safe pick to have SMW > SF2 at this point because Monkey Island won't change anything. Round 3 is going to be killer, SMB3 and SMW will either split the vote or one will be SFFd. FF4 being in there will hurt things for SF2 because it is a FF game and has strength from the brand name. The safe pick is SMB3 > FF4 because SMB3 was the strongest Mario game in 2004 and FF4 doesn't have to worry about a split like SMW has to worry. This leaves SF2 out in the dark and very likely to be eliminated ESPECIALLY since it lost to Sonic 1. I'm going to be very serious for a moment: if SF2 lost to Sonic 1 what chance in hell does it have against a main series FF title? --- Today's Subliminal Thought Is: |

I'm basing it on mostly nothing provable, outside of the fact it manages to outdo FF1 in every favorites poll and it has many more actual fans than the original does. That match against SMB3 was never a 'fluke' -- you didn't need today
to prove that to you. Everyone knows why it did as well as it did

This is making me feel good about FFIV bruising Mega Man tomorrow. I
won't pretend to know how the Final Fantasy SFF will play out, but if
IV gets the better of it and moves on, it also makes me feel very good

Regardless of who does better between FF4 and FF1, the winner has to
beat out another FF title and when rely on Mario 3 to help it make up
