if mario bros 1 could get 70% against better competition when its no where near smb3s strength, its possible For SMB3 to break 80% on SMB's competition it would need to almost triple SMB (without SFF). Yeah, FF1 broke 40% on Mario 3, and while Mario is a weaker series than
FF, Mario 1 as a game was a LOT more popular than FF1. So SMB is
probably worth over 40% on SMB3 indirectly, and against fodder in these
polls, as far as the voters who do not recognize the other games go,

No, SMRPG did not rSFF CT with the Europe vote. rSFF is reverse same
fanbase factor, and neither game has much of a fanbase in Europe, so

How would that work? If SFII does win next round, it will just be
chalked up to SMB3/Sonic SFF anyways. There's really no way to prove it

And I'm assuming Ulti means that CT didn't SFF SMRPG much, because I
do not understand how the argument makes sense the other way. Same here. How does the SMRPG being stronger than we thought, hurt its chances against RE2. FACT or FICTION: Following Lopen's hypothesis, Sonic games will do considerably worse with stiffer competition in the poll. FICTION: Pac-Man the character is the only entity this has ever seemingly applied too, and I see no reason why this should be the same for Sonic's games when it doesn't appear to apply to himself. FACT or FICTION: Tecmo Super Bowl will be the weakest game in the contest. FICTION: Monkey Island might do even worse, so I'm gonna guess not. Crystalis is probably a fair bit worse as well. FACT or FICTION: SMB3 scores 75% or higher. FACT or FICTION: SMB3 score 80%, or close to it POSSIBLE to the first one. FICTION to the latter. Like Leonhart said, that would require 3 90% blowouts in one match. Based on these votals, I'm not even sure that this is Sonic 1 doing well as much as SFII dropping. Sonic does have a trend of getting bizarrely low votals though (See Sonic vs. Zero/Sonic vs. Ryu) --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

MAYBE: Following Lopen's hypothesis, Sonic games will do considerably worse with stiffer competition in the poll. Well, I've semi-theorized that Sonic did better against characters who are not all that recognizable for years (had to find a way to explain how he beat Crono without admitting he was stronger!), but if it's true, there's no evidence that it's very significant. Sonic certainly isn't Pac-Man, and I rather doubt replacing Castlevania III with FFVII would change this poll result. FICTION: Tecmo Super Bowl will be the weakest game in the contest. There's so much fodder in this bracket that it's not easy to be the weakest. FACT: SMB3 scores 75% or higher. FICTION: SMB3 score 80%, or close to it SMB3 is stronger than SMB, and its competition weaker, but not by enough that we can move from 70% to 80% here. I'd wager Galaga is going to extrapolate out to being the weakest
game...Mario 1 is going to get crushed in the quarterfinals (especially
if Mario World is there as well as Mario 3), and then whichever
Nintendo game makes the finals (LttP or Mario 3) is going to get hit

Man, it's not just Madden or football, it's sports.
How high would you take any other sports-game in this contest? Now take
Tecmo, a football-game on the NES not from an on-going series about
football (not appreciated much outside of the US). Now put it against
the game of its generation from the series that killed Madden. We've
even seen that Nintendo fans are no exception to being sports-fans: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=31 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=34 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1870 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2245 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2625 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3181 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3199 No Nintendo-endorsed sports-game has done well and the biggest sports-series was massacred by SMB. We've also seen Contra and DW3 embarrassed by SFF'd-Metroid in light of this poll... http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3196 ...and nobody's expecting anything from Crystalis, so why should Tecmo be some exception? Aside from that poll, we've also seen it do poorly on the Top 100 List (#84, though it did beat Madden-2004 at #91). Other NES-games without a big-name brand-name behind it have been bombing too (Punch Out, Duck Hunt, Ninja Gaiden despite probable 3D-based votes). Even Castlevania 3 is flopping HARD to SF2/Sonic and losing to Civilization as we speak. I understand the premise is that SimCity and SoMI should just be that weak, but it's hard not to say Tecmo's the one who could blow such a great chance to advance if any of them can blow it. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

I'm not seeing why so many people hate this match. It's no different
from any other 1 Seed over 8 Seed slaughter we see in 1 on 1s, except
