That doesn't matter; its not competing with Mario 3. The amoung of
votes Monkey Island does get from rallies will still outdo its 3way
competition. There aren't that many people that would rally for Monkey Island and there aren't that many Monkey Island fans for them to rally. It's a small factor to begin with made smaller by the fact that a lot of the people trying to be ralled will vote for Mario 3. It might out do the SimCity and Tecmo rallies but it still isn't going to mean anything. --- Shall I take you with me? To the place in this town where wishes come true... |

From the looks of it, PC games are going to get owned (with exceptions, one probably being WoW). If Civ comes in fourth, I can't see any other "classic" PC games placing. Doom, maybe. Do a quick google search for "top pc games of all time," and site after site after site will have Civ up there, typically in the top 5. Monkey Island is usually in the top 20 or so. Sim City typically beats it, had an SNES version many non-PC gamers are familiar with, has had releases for on modern portables, and gets updated every few years. It's been almost a decade since the last Monkey Island game. Civ getting thrashed as hard as it did has basically made me lose faith in classic PC games in this competition. If Monkey Island needs rallying to compete with SimCity, the rallying won't matter because SimCity will bury it during the day. None of the 3 games are going to 'bury' anything. We know that SOTN had some power behind it... 5 years ago. It did well
on the Top 100 games list... 3.5 years ago. I don't see it completely

But yeah, really I did not expect Castlevania 3 to suck this hard.
That's the main reason Sonic is doing so well. SF has always had a nice
niche group of voters on this site, but there's always a chunk of
voters that simply don't care for fighting games, so SF will never
dominate a poll. If Castlevania would have brought something
to the table, then SF would have had a chance, which is why I said the
match was still a tossup. I thought it'd get at least 20% in the poll.

I still don't feel bad about picking SotN. When was the last time you
saw anyone talk about Castlevania 3? It's that series' version of Mega

Eh. I know you enjoy it oh so much Ulti, but saying it over and over
isn't going to convince me since it's really just you saying the same
stuff we're saying about Mega Man 2 and 3 and then saying OH BUT SONIC
1-3 ARE REALLY POPULAR THEY'RE NOT THE SAME with no real support other
than IT'S OBVIOUS DUH. Now, it may end up that way in the end but I'm going to have to see more than one good Sonic performance to convince me here. MnM basically has my thoughts on this match: I figured Castlevania would be worth more than 10% here. It's not so much that I overshot SF2 here as much as undershot Sonic with CV3 and to a lesser extent Civilization not being total trash. Sonic's probably just reaping the famed apathy vote here-- something that won't exist once SMB3 hits the field. --- So I lost a bet to creativename (yeah...hardly shocking). Like usual, I should've known better! FACT: Halo 3 was 1000% responsible for Master Chief's boost. |

third place. I'm not entirely sure you're in touch with the Castlevania fanbase. It's surely not MEGA MAN 6. Huh? Castlevania 3 came out in 1990. It got plenty of play and
publicity back in the day. It's just that its style is archaic, and it
gets no love today like other NES series gems do. No re-releases,

Older gamers like MM2 and 3 (*waves*), but a site filled with 15
year-olds doesn't even know Mega Man exists by this point. When was the
last major Mega Man game to hit the market that you would have poll
faith in? Of ALL the Mega Man games, which ones do you have poll faith

How does this make any sense? Street Fighter isn't doing badly at all. The SF fanbase has always had a core block of voters. Why do you think Ryu is so consistent? If Castlevania would have brought something to the table, I'm sure more of those votes would have been at the expense of Sonic. We already know there's a chunk of voters that don't care for fighting games at all. Since Castlevania is sucking it hard, Sonic is gobbling up all of those votes. I was kinda surprised that CV3 got in over CV2. From memory, I thought
CV2 was more popular and got generally higher ratings than CV3 at the
time. Doing a google comparison, CV2 gets about 30% more hits than CV3. |

A niche 2D game from Konami is supposed to leech votes from one of the
two games that came closest to killing Mario in the gaming market? I'm
sure if Gunstar Heroes were in the poll, you'd expect it to leech votes
