http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3197 It's fun to ridicule this poll for FF3/6 bombing or EB excelling, but I think the best stuff you can take from here is that MMX failed in a situation where MMX easily stands out the most. There are six RPGs there, and MMX barely takes fourth? There are two Nintendo games, neither of which should be power-houses, and MMX can't beat either of them? MMX is the only platformer there and is from the most popular Mega Man series, so it should have done better. It looks all the worse with today's poll going on and MM9 not impressing in the GotY-polls (though being a downloadable game affected it, too). I'll wait and give MM3 a chance first, though I'm convinced MM2 > MM3 right now. Eh, I hate gloating (....yeah that's a lie) but I don't honestly see
what people expected of old, individual Mega Man games. I mean I have
no data to back myself up barring today, but did people really think
Mega Man 2/3 would elite NES games? I'm not trying to make fun of

I thought MM2 would be enough to be in the range to compete with
Tetris/Metroid, but...well, who knows. This contest is going to turn a
LOT of things we thought we knew into inaccurate guesses (and the

He isn't elite, but Zero compared to Protoman has to still mean
something. The guy is high-ish mid-carder, so I'd expect X to at least

Zero is no longer elite. He lost to Luigi, then lost to the same Ryu
Hayabusa that he defeated 63/37, and proved that those were no fluke by

Who else is perfect so far and has Tetris > MM2 next round? I want to see my competition in this division. But yes, I agree with Ulti. Mega Man's games will perform worse then Sonic's games since Sonic is much more well known, and look at how strong Sonic's best game is (Sonic 2). Anybody who really thought MM2 would beat Tetris (which already proved it was strong and has all the credentials to be a strong midcarder) is crazy... or Black Turtle. --- ertyu is actually a language. Yeah, another problem with using a "want game do you want on VC" poll
is that many of the games people want to see on VC are games they never
had the chance to try out before. I know plenty of people who would
vote Earthbound, including myself, because I've played almost every
other game on there except Earthbound. The game is known to be quite
rare, and people would love to be able to pay $8 or whatever for it
instead of $80, $100, or whatever it is nowadays. A decent number of
votes in that poll could be from people who have never played the game,
so they wouldn't be voting for it in a contest. In general this is just a bad poll to extrapolate from for the sake of the contest. You could easily look at this and think, "Wow nobody likes FFVI!" when the real reason could be because there are already 3 forms (I think?) of the game including one that came out fairly recently. Although I am thinking maybe I should have picked Earthbound over SMW2. |

The ASV isn't moving the percentages very much today, but since it
started, Oregon Trail and Pong have moved up a bit, MM2 down, and
Pac-Man has stayed at about the same level. Was Oregon Trail released/popular in Canada? If not, I can envision some really interesting Geolocation results tonight, with Oregon Trail outright winning, or at least giving MM2 a good run in the states (about 67% of the votes yesterday) and getting getting sub-5% everywhere else. MM2 scores in the low-30s in the states and Europe (14%), with the fact of it being much worse in Europe normally being compensated by Oregon Trail being a nonexistent force there, and 50s as we'd expected in Canada, South America, Asia, and Australia (17% together). Pac-Man scores in the low-mid 20s in the states, around 40% in Europe, and around 30% elsewhere. --- Best Game Ever Contest II: Score: 2/4 Bracket: Megaman 2 > Oregon Trail --- Vote: Oregon Trail |

MMX is Nintendo. It got SFFed there. MMX will be just about equal to MM2 here, probably just a bit stronger. Mega Man X is a beloved game from the SNES era, as well as the

underestimated. Sonic 2 and 3 especially. I will be absolutely stunned
if we don't end up seeing Sonic 2 vs Sonic 3 in the third round of this

I'll be somewhat-surprised to see any Sonic game get to R3. First, you
gotta assume SMW SFF'd Sonic 2, which I'm not big on. Next, you gotta
assume Sonic games haven't fallen while Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles have
bombed repeatedly in recent years. Then let's look at the bracket: Sonic 2 -- it would need to outlast an LFF'd SMK, which should be easy enough...but then it has to outlast an SFF'd SM and an independent Doom. Doom will stand out the most, looked better statistically in 2004, and outdid Sonic 2 on the Top 100 List. Sonic 2 can advance, but it should be an uphill battle with SM and LoZ:LttP in the mix. Sonic 3 -- it would need to outlast SoM, which is reasonable enough...but then it has to outlast MMX/LoZ:LA and MK2. MM(X) is probably a stronger series than Sonic's and is Mega Man's second chance at having a strong game, LoZ:LA will be a respectable entry if not above-average, and MK2 should be putting up a notably better performance than MK1 against FF3/6. Meanwhile, Sonic 3 is probably weaker than Sonic 2 (at best, they're not far apart). Again, Sonic 3 can advance, but it will not be pretty. We still need to see how Sonic 1 does first, too. It needs to set the tone for the rest of the Sonic games to improve upon, because people will be calling for the Sonic games to go down hard if it doesn't distance itself from Castlevania 3 or get relatively close to SF2. Sonic's case isn't looking so hot when Mega Man's games may not impress though, so... ...I don't feel good about any Sonic game making R3. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

I've got : FF6 > LA > MMX, FF6 > LA > Sonic 2, Tetris > MM2, Super Metroid > SMK > Sonic 3 SMW > FF4 > MM3 Underestimating Sonic and Mega Man looks good so far! Except MGS and C:SotN went on to impress in the Top 100 List, whereas
SMW and Sonic 2 (even Shining Force) were relatively unimpressive. I
also don't like that they SFF'd just because they were rivals in the
