Super Mario Kart is pretty dated by today's standards. I doubt it's
held up that well. I would never take it to beat Sonic 3 1 vs. 1 let

I'd take Super Mario Kart over any Sonic game. Heck, after today, I
might take it over any Mega Man game (sans maybe X), and we all saw
what happened in 2006. I'm starting to think that both Sonic and Mega
Man overperformed due to their status as "iconic series" in the Series
Contest. Sonic especially - seeing what's become of the characters, I'm
now surprised Smash didn't put a 60/40 beatdown on it, especially when

And I understand what people say about Sonic games being more iconic than Mega Man games, but I feel the similarities are there. It's not about Sonic games being more iconic. They were simply more popular. Does Mega Man even have a 1992/11/24 type of hype for any of his games? Each Sonic release was absolutely huge back in the Genesis days. With Mega Man, it was more like "sweet, another Mega Man game". I don't think there really is any Mega Man game that is more popular than the Sonic Genesis games... Now about your saying that Sonic games might fold to strong Nintendo competition again, I don't think there are too many places that is going to happen. I'm still not over how Mario Kart stunk it up in the series contest. If the Mega Man series can beat the Mario Kart series handily, I don't see why arguably the most popular Sonic game can't beat a lesser Mario Kart game. So for that Super Metroid/Sonic 3/SMK matchup, I have SM > Sonic 3, although if I would have given my bracket serious thought, I should have taken Sonic 3 > Super Metroid. I never thought about the possibility of SMK affecting SM more, which probably will happen. Ah well. It's just the first round. --- Proud Supporter of Zero |

SSB was still a two-trick pony against a classic series, even if SSBB
was just announced and 3D-Sonic wasn't well-received. Sonic also went
on to beat Crono later that year. It's hard to ask SSB to do more in

It made the Gamefaqs top 100, and theres 128 games here... It got the noms, people like it enough obviously. So why not? Gunstar Heroes is the Earthbound of the Genesis. As for my opinion on Mario Kart, I guess with the popularity of SSB on
this site, that Mario Kart would also be a powerhouse series on here,
especially given its sales numbers. But for some reason, it just
doesn't show up as well. There's only one contest match to gauge off of
(which wasn't pretty in the slightest vs. my expectations), but even in
all the GotY/ anticipation/favorite polls, it just doesn't dominate
like one would think a series of its caliber would. It's best showing before that in a poll of any type was, what, barely edging out God of War in a three-way while RE4 beat them both down? http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?search=mario+kart --- Proud Supporter of Zero |

Not sure if there's anything better to replace Gunstar Heroes with
anyway. We've got most of the big games of that time period in already

So I'm replaying Devil May Cry, and I completely agree with this piece
of crap series not getting any games in. It should be renamed Devil May
Cry at ****ty Camera Angles. Having an uncontrollable camera wildly
fluctuate all over the place just so a boss can hit you with whatever

Eh, I am of the opinion that God of War is crap in these polls. With that said, the reason why Mario Kart can't touch SSB is because it's probably another series you vote for if you don't care about the other choices. Sonic games will probably be weak, but I think SMK will be even weaker.

As for FE, I wouldn't be surprised if it got last place. Sure, DIsgaea
is weak, but seeing as FE's in a match with the very game that made the
