SMB/SMB3/Zelda 1 are all popular Nintendo NES games. FFIV will stand out like crazy. Though if Tetris winds up in that match, who knows how it will go? --- Just say the word and it's bear time! http://backloggery.com/main.php?user=big_bob |

It'll stand out, SMB3 will likely leech from SMB1...Zelda is in a class of it's own though. I think it'll finish third, but SMB3's leeching and Zelda's elite standing do not help FF4's chances. --- Today's Subliminal Thought Is: |

I have it in the Sweet 16 and I agree it has a lot of convenient
matches up to that point. But it is against SM3/SMB1/Zelda1 in my
bracket (even if Tetris gets that far, it doesn't help FF4 at all). If
it were two strong Nintendo games then FF4 would be screwed but three
means that one could very well have votes leeched by the other two
allowing them to edge ahead of FF4. That makes absolutely no sense. Why would it be less likely if there were 3 games instead of 2? Or are you forgetting Mewtwo/Sora/Cloud/Squall and Bowser/Ryu/Toad/Mewtwo --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |
ZFS | Posted 4/8/2009 4:44:51 PM | message detail |
I doubt FF/FFIV would have been close before. FF's 'strength' comes
almost entirely from franchise voting, something that won't matter too
much when you stick it up against any other FF. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

I'm one of those that believe match pics do matter. Next round MM2/3 should get recognizable pics, they will perform better than their R1 matches. Still, I don't see how FF4 is the favorite with FF1 there. --- [ FINAL FOUR ] FFVII / Super Mario Bros. 3 / LoZ: Ocarina of Time / Metal Gear Solid |

MM3's already likely going to be the weakest game there, and Mario
World won't do it any favors. I'm kinda surprised some think that MM3
is the easy choice there. I expect both FF's to finish ahead of it. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

An interesting little state I found. Final Fantasy 1 Playership: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2664 ... Thats 46830 total votes of people who have played it. Final Fantasy 4 Playership: (after the DS release) http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3188 ... Only 46751 total votes. Not to mention the FF1 poll is about a year or 2 earlier, so it might have even moer playership now. So I don't think people will just abandon FF1 just because they're played both. Hell, alot of people apparently have played FF1 and not 4. --- http://card.mygamercard.net/nxe/albion+hero.png http://seitoacademy.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/lucky-star1.jpg |

ZFS | Posted 4/8/2009 5:03:08 PM | message detail |
The point was that play rate honestly doesn't matter in most cases.
SMB3 kills just about every game here, but it ain't going to beat
Ocarina of Time. Now FF/FFIV aren't those two games (in strength or
play rate), but you don't need to look at any polls to know that FFIV
will be the preferred choice there. It's not like FFIV is unpopular or anything. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

Well, I'd wager it would beat Secret of Evermore. <_< The point is that we've never, ever*, seen a poll where FFIV does well. FFIV did well enough in the most recent GotY polls recently, and there's no reason to expect to be less
than FF. You're probably not gonna find any polls, outside of the
contest, where it did anything all that impressive either. But, uh, I'm
not saying that FFIV would beat Mario World or anything, just that
it'll cruise past MM3 no problem. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

From: RPGuy96 | #481 Those don't even seem that bad. If "nothing this month" was always an option for those anticipation polls, it would win most of the time. And honestly, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any
major FF game (FFII and FFIII excluded) that wouldn't be popular in a
contest setting. They all aren't the same, but none of them are going
to be super weak. The name means everything, especially the further
back you go. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

FFXI wouldn't be worth a whole lot, but we all know what's going on
there. No reason to expect that FFIX and FFXII would be weak games,
though, but they're also probably not 'elite' either. Still, I'd take
both of 'em to whomp FF1 any day. --- http://i44.tinypic.com/sficrr.jpg |

Uhh............................................. There is no question which game is preferred between FFI and FFIV. FF IV would godstomp FFI one on one. People really need to stop taking favorite game in series polls seriously after like the third most popular game. The SFF from the top games is so bad that you can't get any reading on the lesser games. That doesn't mean there isn't still a significant gap between lower tier games. Among the internet community of the mid 90's FFIV was bigger than FFVII is now. And I know that that was ages ago, but the thing is that the overlap between FFI and FFIV is huge, bigger than FFIV and the 3D FFs by far. --- From his looks Magus is Macho Man Randy Savage as an anime zombie. . Remember RPGs weren't even mainstream back then... Internet community The internet was hardly mainstream in FFIV's heyday. FFIV has literally every advantage it needs, not to be strong, but to SFF FFI into the ground.
