MI without a doubt has the most hardcore fans of the 3 games, and with
the possible beat down Mario can give them, the most hardcore fans

Wait, are we seriously using an 8 way poll about VC interest as
evidence? If Monkey Island is on that poll, do you really think it
would get as many votes as Tecmo SB, knowing that there is no key word
in the name to attract voters who have never heard of Monkey Island?
The question itself doesn't ask for popularity, though it implies it,
so I still think that 2nd place is anyone's game, and that Tecmo SB

1) Have sports games of any kind ever shown potential here? Has Tecmo shown any potential? 2) Is there a bigger sports game/series here than Madden? Is Tecmo bigger? 3) Is anybody expecting anything from Crystalis or Dragon Warrior 3 (though it's the original DW in the NES-VC poll)? Monkey Island's got a great shot there, if only because SMB3 is going
to crush that poll so hard that the other three are going to be
fighting over scraps. Not a bad idea to trust that the game with a
hardcore fanbase that could muster something like 10% to pull a win

I see no reason why the people who get Guybrush in and vote for him
religiously wouldn't do the same for Monkey Island. And judging off
Tetris today, that 10-11% will probably be all Monkey Island needs if
SMB3 kills the poll. --- Demyx is better than Axel. |

Guybrush (who has led for four Monkey Island games, I believe) got ~17%
on Bowser in 2004. This is bound to get much uglier when you take just
one of the Monkey Island games and pit it against SMB3 five years
later. Tecmo and SimCity aren't going to do it favors, either. I'll be

Another strike against Guybrush: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2893 Duke and Gordon pre-OB took first and second while probably LFF'ing some, and Ike pre-SSBB took a close third. Guybrush only managed ~11.5% here. Ike pre-SSBB is expected to get ~72% on Guybrush there. Hardcore fanbase or no, SMB3's got a good chance to make Monkey Island look far worse. Okay, fine, but that doesn't excuse him for bombing against Ryo Hazuki,
Altair, Lucario, or Isaac; Isaac got ~62% on Guybrush despite Lucario.
Excuse him for Duke/Gordon/Ike if you like, but the rest of his

Donkey Kong taking second means my zero bracket remains safe. For
others, their zero bracket is ruined on the first day. I like the

I think SimCity will score over 20%, probably around 22%. Monkey Island
will struggle to get 10%, which Tecmo won't even come close to with an

Damage control? Nah. With SMB3 looking to get between 70-80% of the
vote, there are very few votes avaliable for the other three. It is
very difficult to say how it would split between three fodder games, so
to see everyone discard tecmo sb is very disheartening and not fair to

Seems like DK is a lock to take second now. Punch Out did well enough,
and I for one would like to see one more appearance from Little Mac in
the next CB to see if POWii has helped him. As for this talk of Monkey Island, I actually think it might advance. When I think TSB, I think Madden when it got flattened by Mario. Simcity, to me, might end up getting badly SFF'ed by SMB3. I also think Monkey Island would get like 12-16%, so it seems possible. --- The Gamer In Me |
