Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. However, I think the second assumption is probably false and Mana as a franchise hasn't done anything noteworthy in a loooooong time. In before brackets are busted and the casuals outsmart B8. See, the first match of this contest is one that I highly suspect the casuals to outsmart the Gurus. It'll be interesting to see how Duck Hunt does in North America (where
it was packaged with the NES) vs. the rest of the world. I'm thinking
the contrast will be even greater than with Chrono Trigger or SMRPG.
That explains why DH had such an amazing ASV, along with DK being
horrid with it. Speaking of which....if DK only gets a small lead

Yesmar thinks this is the single biggest insult in the history of English. I mean in general over the past couple of topics. Not that comment. There's no point in constantly pointing out who you should ignore which you do *all* the time. Question: WHY did you people trust in Donkey Kong to do anything but choke? Donkey Kong has still won every match he was predicted to. People claim that his matches against Vercetti and Master Chief were chokes, when the fact that he was close to them at all was a big accomplishment. He cut it close against Aya and Duck Hunt, but he/it still won. This past year was the only time he was really the favorite and lost. Maybe against Vivi, but I thought the board consensus was Vivi in that one. And DK/ Duck Hunt has always seemed a little fishy to me. There's a group of 4 matches within a week of one another in Sp2004, where one entrant starts eating up percentage for half the match regardless of vote trends, and Duck Hunt is one of those entrants. The others are Contra (which goes from being 50/50 with Phantasy Star with the first night vote to getting close to *70%* with the second one), Galaga, and The Simpsons. --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

I don't know about the others, but Duck Hunt being much much more
popular in North America than elsewhere would explain that one. We'll
