Wait people think SOTN > SM64?

28 Super Mario 64 21.92%
32 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 20.27%

And that's with SM64 being SFF by OoT. Sure GoldenEye was too, but not as bad as SM64. Also SOTN is probably weaker now than it was in 2004.

No response to why I think RE > SOTN? I have a convincing argument.

I have doubts as to the extent of any MGS/RE SFF. Ocelot/Jill's really the only thing to imply any. I mean, based on how well Castlevania did in the Series Contest compared to all non-Alucard characters, it's popularity has to come from somewhere.

We've often argued about GE/MGS, so let's assume they're even. RE gets 36.08% on C:SotN in 2004 like this. C:SotN does beat RE by thirty-eight spots on 2005's Top 100 List (#15 to #53) and it's had re-releases since then, even if Alucard has done down since 2004. With all of the reasons given so far about this upset, it's possible; there are worse upsets...but I really don't like its chances. I doubt I'd take RE2 > C:SotN, so I'm shying away from this one.

You also have to remember that the REmakes came out in 2003. I can't see any scenario where Resident Evil wins in that situation. Like I said a few topics ago, SotN > SM64 is more likely than RE > SotN

Yeah, MC is done. The 2007 contest was an anomaly because the contest was going on the same time Halo 3's release was occuring. The hype from that gave MC a colossal boost the likes of which he will never see again. He'll still make the field but won't make any noise this year or the next. Bungie is also moving on after ODST is finished (at least, that's what I heard) meaning MC has nowhere to go but down.

RE's 29.38% to C:SotN's 40.72% brings us to C:SotN 64-36'ing RE if MGS = GE. Ah, so you eliminated the FF7/MGS SFF but kept the MGS/RE? That's fair enough, plus it shows how much SFF there needs to be between RE and MGS to pull RE even with Castlevania. We'll see how it goes down soon enough.

Link's Awakening is really starting to scare me now. On one hand, it could be comparable to Super Mario Land, and I'd easily take X over something like that.

But on the other hand, it could be reasonably close to the original Legend of Zelda.. which Mega Man X has no chance of beating.

Thoughts?

Portable games are never taken as seriously as their console counterparts, even outside of the contest. I don't believe LA is anywhere near Zelda 1's strength.

People are taking both Brawl and Galaxy to advance in that match. That pick makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, especially with all of the other SFF matches we've seen in the last 2 years (Ryu's 2007 run for instance)

God, I love this place, and the contests are always fun to watch, but god damn, this place has the most depressing taste in games. FFVII isn't bad by any means, but it's not as good as some of the classics. I guess I'm just a Nintendo guy at heart. I almost feel bad putting FFVII in the winners slot. I die a little inside.

That would still hurt Mario 64 somewhat.

Since I'm bored waiting for the contest to start, I've been keeping track of the updates in today's poll. Right now, the "I don't use any social networking sites" is getting in regular cuts on Facebook. That option is also pulling off some scary 100 vote gains on MySpace during the worst time of the day for vote totals. Facebook and MySpace are dropping in percentage rather hard, which I suspect would be due to the UK not really being into social networking sites.

Facebook's lead on the last 10 updates: 2614, 2603, 2586, 2561, 2555, 2557, 2545, 2534, 2529, 2519.

Facebook is unlikely to blow that 2500 vote lead. I'm still surprised that Facebook is almost tripling MySpace. Didn't expect the blowout to be that bad.

Facebook became a joke once non-college groups started showing up all over the place. When you have 60 year-old family members asking to friend you in their pathetic attempt to stay hip with the youth crowd, it's time to move on to something else.
