Diablo 2 has a huge range. I just don't feel comfortable trying to say anything definitively on it. I *do* feel comfortable saying something definitive on GTA, though - it sucks, or rather, it's mediocre. if Diablo 2 is worse than that, which is very possible, it'll lose. don't get the wrong idea about GTA though, it's fodder line material. not that we have a fodder line, but you know what I mean. --- xyzzy http://i42.tinypic.com/2vbwhn4.jpg |

I think GTA may be underestimated, since there's a possiblity SSBM may
be eliminated by a GTA3/Diablo 2 combo thanks to sharing a poll with
Wind Waker. Vice City did hold it under 54% back in '04 and Diablo 2 is
a wildcard that may match Starcraft's potential(and also may flop) Ok, it's not an upset I would take but I wouldn't laugh at anyone who did. --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |

The thing about GTA is that it has gotten worse and worse here over the
past five years. I don't think anyone would expect any of the games,
except for maybe San Andreas, to be worth a whole lot, or be able to
repeat what they did back then. GTAIV getting mauled by Fallout 3 and
SA coming in third to last in the GotC poll kinda say it all there. --- doth thou desire the power |

GTA was pretty groovy back in 2004, in both GOTY and BGE polls. GTA by
2006 looked just bad and GTA4 managed to actually underperform low
expectations. San Andreas, undoubtedly the strongest GTA game, even did
pretty bad in that GOTC poll. GTA's saving grace is high playership and
in packs with games of unknown strengths. it could advance due to

GTA3 != GTA4 And GTA Characters != GTA Games. You're saying GTA has done nothing but terribly around here, but character battle results and a GENERALLY (as in not just GameFAQs) poorly received GTA4 underperforming relative to expectations is not convincing me. The series contest was nasty, but I do think that it's a lot Warcraft RTS having some stroke around here combined with anti-votes (not a factor here) --- Did you say nerd? - Raiden Yes, I did. Well, I'm pretty sure Vice City fell off the map, so I don't see why GTA III wouldn't follow suit here. Besides, I'd barely take Vice City if you replace it here. GTA III just makes me count it out almost completely. --- *is Dranze* Through fire, justice is served because FastFalcon05 owned my bracket. |

was way more original for its time, and Vice City was not a big

Then why is Vice City preferred? Though I do not deny the possibility
of that, I really think it's unlikely that GTA III will be strong

I dunno. The whole argument seems to be 'ignore what every other GTA
has done, GTAIII will be different!' despite nothing really pointing to
that being the case. Tran's right, though, in that Diablo II can
definitely lose to GTAIII -- but not because of GTA's strength, just

Who says Vice City is preferred? GTA3 outperformed it by eight spots on
the top 100 list. But general public opinion as a whole just tells me

The argument isn't "ignore what every other GTA has done" It's "ignore every random extrapolation of GTA related paraphernalia onto the GAMES and take only what the GAMES have done into account" And when you do that, you've got strong entrants. San Andreas hanging with LFF'd Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess certainly doesn't say anything great
about it either. But SA is almost certainly the strongest GTA game, far
more than I'd ever give GTAIII. Even with that, I don't think too
highly of SA -- it'd probably lose to a number of games, not just the

SA had absolutely no excusesl - the only game that stood out more was
FF10, but it still lost handily, not even competing for second place.
remember, VC is worth like 47% on FF10 in 2004, so... yeah. GTA has

13% for a game that is probably the most independent on the poll
doesn't say anything good. But sure, I give SA more credit than I do
any other GTA game for that, even if I don't think too much of it. The

RE4 definitely has more reason to suffer from Nintendo than GTA does.
It was on the PS2, but it was also big on the GCN and Wii, too. I
wouldn't expect there to be huge overlap or anything, but RE4 was

Third to last, but a respectable third to
last. I'd be hard pressed to name many games that could outdo its
percentage in that poll. And say what you will about standing out-- FFX
HANDILY beats it due to being the only RPG in the poll. That's big in
an RPG dominated site. GTA is a mainstream game, and in a poll full of
mainstream games it should in no way be expected to gather the sore
thumb factor. Even has RE4 to take "the mature crowd" to help take that

I don't think that's a particularly convincing poll from RE4 either, I
expected better of it. (Unfortunately for it, for the purposes of this
contest it doesn't matter if it was hurt by Nintendo since it gets
paired with Twilight Princess so early and of course it has to manage

it's not a convincing poll for RE4 either. that poll isn't a complete
disaster for SA but it could have done better, is supposed to be some
kind of god in multi-way polls and, despite four Nintendo games, still
lost to two of them. this is for the strongest GTA game - other ones
look a good bit weaker. to use this as an argument in favour of GTA is

Let me just finish the thought with this: Nintendo LFF is generally
overrated. There is a reasonable amount of variety in the franchises
within it and we're talking a voting base that probably the whole site
can get behind in some form. Weakened, sure. Crippled? Nah. Their total
percentage in the poll was barely over 50%. Do you really think they
got hit with some sort of vote ceiling or something? I'm just not sure
how much better you want RE4/SA to do without making the Nintendo

Wait, who says GTA does better in four ways? No anti-votes, sure, but I don't think the format helps them in the least. If anything the no anti votes will just cancel the mainstream dependence the games have. isn't the theory this topic has been throwing around during the
offseason. There are other theories that make a lot more sense like
"three characters that are basically varying degrees the same archetype

It's just pretty ridiculous to me and reeks of trying to overexplain
things that diverge from the stats with common factors. Not everything
can be explained by traditional overlap, and even assuming overlap
let's assume that Riku/Dante had some "PS2 Hitz" overlap and as such
the net difference (not tremendously high in the first place) can be
