On Melee/Brawl, my guess is: Melee 2005-7 >> Melee 2009 > Melee 2004 > Brawl 2009 I wouldn't be very confident in most matches this year thanks to the 5 year hiatus between games contests, and especially not about games that weren't out last contest. --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? RE4 sure has an unimpressive performance in that century poll huh. 4
way Nintendo SFF and barely beating TP and Galaxy. Granted, it's
probably suffering from that SFF too being a GCN game originally, but
probably not going to be hurt as much as the other 2 games. --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |

Well, RE4 was on both Gamecube and Wii...but yeah, you have two LoZ
games and successful returns to gaming from Nintendo's other major
classic series. RE4 was probably hurt some in that poll...and it's hard
to estimate how much it was hurt. On one hand, it's an RE-game, so
probably not a lot. On the other, it was #14 on the Top 100 List (right
behind FFX and SM64) before its PS2 or Wii ports were released. It's hard to say. Let me check out how Leon's done in his four-ways against Dante with Pikachu and Kirby...this might shed a little light. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

LEON VERSUS DANTE... ...in 2008, with Riku and Hogger: 47.6% ...in 2008, with Kirby and Master Chief: 43.04% ...in 2007, with Pikachu and Amaterasu: 43.94% It's worth mentioning DMC4 came out in 2008, too. It looks like Pikachu and Kirby made a big difference in each match, with Kirby making the bigger impact. It's not conclusive thanks to the format, but it's certainly within reason to think RE4 would have gotten closer to FFX if it wasn't weighed down by Nintendo, too; LoZ:TP may not have been the only game screwed out of a chance for first place in the GotC-poll. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

RE4 is getting out of its division. Whether it beats TP or not is
debateable, but I'm tempted to take it. I just can't get beyond the
Zelda name though. When we see how MM and LA do, we'll have a better

I've been lurking these topics for years, and while general consensus
here isn't 100% accurate the insight and analysis are generally pretty
good. That said, there are two games I'm curious of everyone's general
opinion on strength wise: SF2 Portal Discuss (or don't, whatever). --- SCCs completed: Thief, Samurai, Archer, Wizard, Mediator |

Portal seems to be the huge favourite at getting second in the first
round though personally I think Bioshock has a chance at the upset. Street Fighter II on the other hand could start the contest losing to Sonic 1 or could sneak its way to the semi-finals. Okay, the discussion of staying power is getting silly BT. Considering
SMG is in the 2007-2009 division, a former GotY-winner here with
multiple awards elsewhere, the newest game of its series, and
responsible for putting its series back on its feet and into the

Yeah, Portal/BS is a toughy. I'm taking Portal, but it's one of those
first-round matches that can easily go the other way, too. As for SF2...I almost took it super-far thanks to SFF/LFF and SF4 making the series relevant again, but I figure FF2/4 should probably take it out first. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

FFIV is kind of a dark horse in itself. The characters have yet to do
anything of note in the character contest, and the only thing we really
know about it is that it is most likely weaker than FFVI. I'm not
totally convinced it beats Mega Man X, especially since we have yet to

And here you have Ulti, a man so influenced by the internet that he needs ignore scripts to shelter his feeble mind. And people are honestly considering Portal to advance? I can't see any way that Bioshock doesn't win there. Portal is a cult favourite, but Bioshock is a mainstream title with critical acclaim as well as a niche fanbase. I see no reason why a Zelda title would have more staying power than a
Mario title. If anything, TP was the more hyped game (like Brawl), so

So...does today's poll tell us anything we didn't already know about
Pokemon? Basically, half of the Pokemon gamers don't play anymore,
which doesn't really tell us anything about R/B/Y, but it probably

Pokemon games usually get 25%-35% in these poll, so this is nothing
new. It's hard to get any kind of number for R/B/Y from this, but
here's what we could work with: 3/24/09 - http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3432 5/2/07 - http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2739 5/1/07 - http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2738 I suspect lots of the people who have played Pokemon before but not anymore, people who haven't played Pokemon in years, and people who owned somewhere between one-four Pokemon games are largely people who played R/B/Y. We've talked about R/B/Y being the game that most people have played and how it came before the hate, so it would explain the fewer amount of games owned by them...which would then explain why they haven't played Pokemon in years. It's not precise enough by any means to get a solid guess and it doesn't account for current Pokemon fans, but it wouldn't be too hard to believe many of those answers are referring to R/B/Y. --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |
