Well how do you figure GTA would do against Oblivion 1 vs 1? It surely wouldn't blow it away (.. if it wins). But if it splits with GoW AT ALL (which is a good possibility considering they are two casual heavy PS2 hits), Oblivion wins it easily if it would even have a close match with GTA. --- *is Dranze* Through fire, justice is served because FastFalcon05 owned my bracket. |

Fun fact: Oblivion was made by the same people as Fallout 3. It got around the same review scores, and I'm fairly certain it sold more. So...no real reason to not respect it at least a little bit. --- FastFalcon believed in Snake. I didn't. |

I think you're looking a little too hard for LFF. Remember that when
CT, CC, Gears 2, MM9, P4, WoW were removed from the GotY poll it was
Brawl that benefited the most, despite not being the least bit related
to any of these (sans maybe MM9, which was in last). I don't think
"casual PS2 game" is going to mean much in the way of LFF when GTA and

The difference between Fallout 3 and Oblivion is that one has already
proven itself. Oblivion's got some decent polls going for it, but
nothing like F3. I think it's a good bet for second, but San Andreas is

I definitely respect Oblivion, but it's not on FO3's level. It lost to
Gears and KH2 in 2006 (though it got the PS3-port in 2007): http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2629 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2384 I don't think that's going to be enough to beat GTA:SA without GTA:SA dropping a lot. I'm not understanding this confidence in Oblivion. I took GTA > GoW
without hesitation. Can someone explain to me why it is favoured to

I'd think getting with 5% of Kingdom Hearts II is a lot better than..
well, being 2% within an SFF'd handheld game and getting obliterated by

I just tend to hear more nitpicks about it than compliments so I factored that in when I made my "black sheep" claim. It's not a hated game, it sold very well and I'm sure many have heard of Oblivion before the three TES games that came before it. That said, GTA:SA is by far the strongest GTA game in terms of sales, reviews and most importantly fanbase support (did you know that GTA:SA was one of the Top 10 most pirated games last year?). Sonic is the only Noble Niner to have lost twice to non-NN's in the
same contest, and his loss to Auron was probably the most expected
successful non-NN > NN upset we've seen to date. That was after
his debut in last year's GotY-winner. Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails each
bombed harder than most people expected, too. In fact, since the change
to four-ways, the only impressive moment Sonic Team has had was when
Sonic destroyed Subby/Gordon/Duke right after being announced for SSBB
(which probably saved him against Squall twice). I do agree the format sucks for Sonic-n-gang, but at this point, it's more than that. All of the characters are in a downward spiral, and the only thing they can really hope for is that their games have held up better than they have (well, it's not like Shadow matters much regarding how the Sonic games do this contest). --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

Tails was the weakest, yes, but I did expect better. Then again, Tails
did lose to The Boss the year before, so I should have known

I can't really see how Sonic's downward spiral would affect Sonic 3's
matches. Sonic 3 happened long before the jump to 3D, which is IMO what

If he wasn't getting crappy games at a constant rate, he would be
slowly stagnating like Crono over the years as opposed to nosediving a
little further every year since the next gen consoles came out. 2007
marked a huge decrease in Sonic after that abortion of a Sonic game
Sonic Next-gen came out, and it was further destroyed last year. This
year, after Unleashed, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets beaten by

Gotta agree with BT. It's taken a while, but people are finally fed up
with Sonic's consistently crappy output. Another game like Sonic 2006

Hmmm, might be true. Though I kinda just think Crono just has more
staying power in general, being from an RPG and whatever. But certainly

I Crono was the lead character in Chrono Cross, and 30 more Chrono
Cross-like games came out after that, he'd be nosediving too. If Mega
Man as we know him was the model used in the Battle Network games, he'd

With Board 8 making the pictures, I think Tifa > Sonic would be a
consensus pick in the Stats Topic and a damn popular one across the
board. While his SFF status assures Sonic he won't be losing to
Nintendo characters outside the big three, I'd pick no fewer than four
Square near-elites (Squall, Vincent, Auron, Tifa, and maybe Sora) to
drop his ass. If I'm feeling particularly daring, I may even take

And hell, Sonic might lose to Kirby 1v1 (it would be foolish of me to
write off the possibility, obviously), but it's hard to envision him
getting SFF-handled by the weaker Mario guys or Zelda/Ganon. Still,

Barring a miraculous comeback of some sort, I can see Sonic falling to
high-midcarder status in the next 2 or 3 years. I'd definitely take the
4 Square elites over him now, and maybe a few of the guys behind them

Kingdom Hearts III... seems like some kind of cruel joke. KHII came out
exactly three years ago, and we haven't had so much as a word of news

The funny thing about Sonic is that he really only needs one
high-profile awesome game to regain his credibility. However, much like
