want a pro-Symphonia argument? look at the 360 GOTY poll and then remember that Symphonia is a good ways ahead of Vesperia. So let me get this straight..... You're taking the second most popular game in a series which was doubled by Street Fighter in 2006, and has had no notable success against the flagship PS2 game that has a really young character already ahead of most other characters in contest history? So was Smash at the time. The point is, don't expect God of War to be akin to Kratos in a game contest. It just doesn't work like that. The point is, don't expect God of War to be akin to Kratos in a game
contest. It just doesn't work like that. Sure it'll have strength but
franchise voting is pretty much out of the question so it'll actually
have to rely on game strength more. I agree with this. There are way too many instances where characters are stronger than their games and vice versa. Check out Squall - he smashes every FFVI character, but FFVIII wouldn't touch FFVI. Dante and Kratos have risen way above what their games/series are worth around here. People like DMC and GoW, but they aren't big favorites. Fortunately for GoW, it's up against Oblivion and Tales, so it has a good shot at advancing. i'd put VIII below X and when it comes to close matches,i back
starcraft,plus i don't think it'll be any weaker.MGS seems like it can

It might have a shot, but it's far more likely to be severely over-estimated here. It is the Majora's Mask of the FF universe. --- ertyu is actually a language. I wouldn't be too surprised if FFVIII managed to do something weird if it got that far, but MGS is the safe bet there. Yeah FF8 has a bit of that unpredictable aura about it. I haven't looked at the bracket closely and just made a real quick, first-impression based bracket and I'll probably change some stuff later. I don't know, I just in my gut can't see MGS beating FF8. I don't think MGS games are strong enough, and I don't think VIII would be much weaker than VI or X. FF8 needs a few things to go right -- FF9 losing to Half-Life and
FFT to be out by round 3, namely -- in order to have a fair fight there. Hm, true. I hadn't looked closely enough at the bracket to see that. But FF8 and FF9 can't both be there right? And there's of course no way 9 beats 8, 9 will get SFFed to oblivion probably. Distant 4th in round 2 even if it gets there. I guess what you're saying is the high possibility that Starcraft will beat it out? (in which case I think it'd probably beat MGS too) And Tactics has pretty tough competition to get to round 3. But simulation-wise or something, it might make a lot of sense to put MGS ahead of FF8 (even if you think 8 is stronger in raw terms) because of there being more scenarios where 8 is crippled. And most here seem to think MGS is stronger in raw terms anyway. I just have trouble going with that though. I think you're overestimating FFVIII a good bit. I don't think it can

I don't expect FFIX or FFT to be in the picture, honestly. It's just got to be stronger than StarCraft and then MGS, which is within its ability. Can't say I agree there. I think FFVI and FFX would outdo FFVIII
easily, directly and indirectly. I would agree that FFVIII would beat
FFIX, but it wouldn't be a killing or anything. If FFIX's in the second

Final Fantasy VIII has always done pretty well in those "favorite FF"
polls. Considering it's probably the most likely one to get SFF
pummeled by VII and Squall's general beastliness, I'd say one has

that FF9 match is pretty big in my mind. if FF9 wins, it obviously hurts FF8's chances of beating Starcraft, but if Half-Life wins then there's probably a good chance that it hinders Starcraft against FF8. plus there's the fact that we have no idea how strong either Starcraft or FF8 are... funny division, that. easily the hardest one. --- xyzzy http://i42.tinypic.com/2vbwhn4.jpg |
