Considering RE4 couldn't beat TP with a crapload of Nintendo LFF
helping it out in the GOTC poll, something tells me taking it over the
biggest Zelda game isn't a good idea. RE4 did beat LoZ:TP with a crapload of Nintendo LFF, for the record. I would also take SSBM over every game in that poll, and LoZ:TP should bother LoZ:OoT decently enough. I'll think on it all more later -- right now I've gotta go to rehearsal..... --- Prototype Shorthand, do you speak it?! |

Yeah, CT/FFVI probably have more overlap than FFVII/FFVI. And, CT would need a huge amount of LFF to beat FFVII there. As for RE4.....I don't think any amount of LFF, not even LTTP + TP, could get it to beat OOT. --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? For that match I just went "Hey look, 3 PS2 M-rated games and World of Warcraft!" I decided against putting a GTA game first or second on that match. I remember someone else in these stats topics (not this one) saying that GTA has been disappointing each year. Putting my faith in GTA could get me burned here. Oh, and MGS3 gets second. If it gets first in round 1 against WoW, it shouldn't get second in round 2, barring a massive collapse on MGS3's part or more aggressive WoW rallying. And that match doesn't even have any SFF to deal with either. You have NO IDEA how badly I want to pick FFX > OoT > RE4/TP in
that one match. 2004's (lol) stats have a 60-40 match as-is, and then

Am I crazy for picking Chrono Trigger to not only defeat LttP in round 4, but also make it to the finals too? I figure that with the release of Chrono Trigger DS a few months ago, it would get enough of a strength boost to avoid losing to LttP. It's also worth noting that Chrono Trigger defeated LttP 5 years ago. 60-40 is actually a pretty big gap. Cloud went from 56% on Snake to
just under 50% when Sephiroth was added to the mix....I wouldn't expect
TP to hurt OOT as much as Sephiroth hurt Cloud. They'll overlap less,

Why wouldn't you expect OoT just not to crush TP rather than just split 50/50 with it, especially if OoT is in danger? Think of Cloud/Snake/Kirby/Sephiroth last year. Am I crazy for picking Chrono Trigger to not only defeat LttP in round 4, but also make it to the finals too? If you believe CTDS has lifted Chrono Trigger to near-OOT levels, then that's fine. I still don't think that's completely impossible (look how much Snake boosted from a trailer and how much Square boosted in 2003, possibly/mostly from Kingdom Hearts), but it's very very very unlikely. As in about as close to impossible as we can get in a 4-way contest that's sequel to a contest from 5 years ago. --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? Isn't that the one with FF7, FF6 and CT? I have a final consisting of FF7/Chrono Trigger/OoT/FFX, in which I went with OoT > FF7 given the LFF mess in that match. who else has SMB>Zelda for everymatch till the LFF kicks in? FF1 won't get killed. that'll be a 60/40 kind of thing, I think. might
be a 65/35 thing now with the remake but I wouldn't expect FF1 to just

Also, does everyone else have the rather eerie reminder of the GoTY with CoD4/SSBB/MGS4/Fallout 3. Because to my mind, that's the most predictable match I have set up in the whole bracket. --- Because we basically already did it. |

Well Ulti, SMB > LoZ in 2004 if you think that SMB is worth more
then 43.2% indirectly on SMB3. LoZ has aged FAR worse then SMB to my
mind and depending on what the pictures could look like, SMB could have
that in the bag easily. It's not a lock, but I'm comfortable. --- Ish. |

I agree with Mario 1 > Zelda 1 While Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time has essentially rendered the original Zelda obsolete, the original Mario, while simple, is still playable and charming. One thing to note: This is the first games contest in 5 years, and
therefore almost nothing is certain. It is very very likely that we
will be shocked at least once and probably more during this contest. So

MM2 > Mario/Zelda would be more likely if you believed that to be the case. however, we've seen many times that Mega Man gets beat up by Nintendo so it's not going to get out of this easily. plus, we've seen Zelda 1 go 56/44 with SMB3 so we know Mario 1's going to have a fight on its hands if it advances there. --- zizzy |
