Looking at this... SimCity Super Mario Bros. 3 Tecmo Super Bowl Secret of Monkey Island Who's the favorite for second? Super Mario Bros. 3 has first under lockdown, for all we know (and care). I'm guessing SimCity because Tecmo Super Bowl is a sports game, and sports games were never well-liked here on GameFAQs (Remember how badly Madden got ANNIHILATED by Super Mario Bros?), and I'll be damned if Secret of Monkey Island is anything but turbofodder. --- "Here I go! I'm excited to see whether SMB1 or SMB3 can score the bigger blow out. Both should get close to 70%. SMB1 has the potential to go higher though. I could actually see all 3 games there not even breaking 10%. --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

I'm liking SimCity. Remember SMB/Madden? It's not like Tecmo's going to
show off with much new sports-cred against the biggest NES game we

Even if Link's Awakening proves strong enough to beat MMX and Sonic
2/MK2 it runs into LttP in the next round and gets manhandled. It's a
neat upset pick for the first two rounds especially if you don't think
highly of Mega Man/Sonic/Mortal Kombat, though. I suppose it could also cause LttP to lose to FFVI should it make it that far, but I'd wager it just gets killed and doesn't do any real damage to LttP. --- Mustache...and Green... http://backloggery.com/rpguy96 |

I just find it hard to take it over X... handheld games not named

I dunno that I would use Madden to judge TSB's worth. Tecmo has a big
'classic' factor going for it that no Madden game really has, and it's
not much of a realistic 'sim' like football games today are. I'd feel

I honestly feel pretty uneasy about any of the three choices between
Tecmo, Sim and Super Monkey. But Super Monkey I'm more or less not

I'd throw the most recent on in a bracket and be done with it. I still
wouldn't trust Madden for anything, given that it probably has to rely
almost entirely on North America to garner votes for obvious reasons. --- Donkey Kong Country 2's path to Best Game Ever '09. vs. Super Mario RPG, Goldeneye, Resident Evil 2. Ugh, my top 3 games in the same match. |

Tecmo-n-gang shouldn't even need 15% to advance, I'm sure -- just
comparing the likely playrate between those games tells me SMB3 gets
well over 55%, neverminding that it's legitimately a top five game here
too. SMB3 has a 94.7% playrate, only to be outdone by Tetris (and even
then, not in terms of general popularity). I also doubt the other games
are far from each other (with the off-chance that SMB3 particularly
crushes Tecmo). 15% from any of the other games would be "impressive"
to me. I mean, really, according to the NES-VC poll last year, Tecmo would be expected to get 16.84% on FF one-on-one. Couple that with how SMB3 beat FF with 59.6% in 2004, and those numbers (though likely inaccurate to some degree by now) say Tecmo only gets 13.6% on SMB3 one-on-one. Throw in two more games and any potential anomaly, and Tecmo would be doing very well to even match that number. I don't care about how it was ranked/reviewed, either; it's up against an NES game nobody wants to face and SimCity's far enough removed with SOME kind of brand-name, even if GameFAQs isn't so into the Sim-series. charmander6000 Talks About the Bracket v2.0: New Games Added Six games were added while six games were removed, but did those changes add anything, for example does it make the bracket more unpredictable or did we just end up trading fodder for fodder. Mortal Kombat II > Super Street Fighter II Turbo Mortal Kombat II Secret of Mana Shining Force II Sonic the Hedgehog 2 It’s common knowledge that SBAllen is a Street Fighter fan, but even he had to agree that two Street Fighter II games, no matter how slightly different they might be was too much to ask for. Instead we bring in a new series that has some strength. As for the overall bracket nothing has really changed, instead of SSFIIT advancing we have MKII advancing which will lose in the next round. Still the more series that are represented the better. Donkey Kong Country 2 > Fallout Donkey Kong Country 2 GoldenEye 007 Resident Evil 2 Super Mario RPG One of the winners from the NRT needed the Add/Remove gimmick to enter the contest. Great things are expected out of Fallout 3 and while Fallout won’t be as weak as Fallout 2 was in 2004 the game was unneeded and wouldn’t have done much in this match. Another positive thing about this match is that it went from an easy GE > SMRPG to a three way fight for second. GoldenEye 007 will easily take first, but now with LFF RE2 has a chance at advancing and who’s to say that DKC2 isn’t more popular than SMRPG. Deus Ex > Panzer Dragoon Saga Deus Ex Final Fantasy Tactics Metal Gear Solid Pokemon Gold/Silver Many people were upset from this change not because PDS was removed, but because Rollercoaster Tycoon’s topic had more agrees to the switch. Personally I believe that SBAllen made the right choice here. DE won’t affect the match and will probably come in last like PDS would have, but having new fodder is always better than old fodder by my books. Soul Calibur > Super Smash Bros. Final Fantasy VIII Soul Calibur Starcraft Xenogears It was sad to see SSB go and even if there weren’t many complaints it will be ranked as one of the highest snubs of this contest. Last time Soul Calibur was able to go toe on toe with Kingdom Hearts and this year with Xenogears in the same poll Final Fantasy VIII could be in trouble. However I see SC having a higher chance at flopping than SSB and for all we know FFVIII could be a powerhouse and would still place despite Xenogears. This match still has the same amount of difficulty in predicting with the added bonus of having another series added to the contest. Fire Emblem > Golden Sun Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Fire Emblem Super Smash Bros. Melee Zelda: The Wind Waker Out of the six changes this in my opinion was the worst move. First of all you removed a game whose strength we know nothing about and replace with a game that we’ve already seen. Sure FE could have been SFF by FFTA in 2004, but sticking it in a match with two Nintendo games is not going to be any better. It adds nothing to the overall contest. At least Golden Sun was far enough from Nintendo where it was possible that it may not get SFF. Street Fighter IV > The World Ends With You Grand Theft Auto IV Persona 4 Street Fighter IV Super Smash Bros. Brawl This change caused the most whining on the board. TWEWY is one of the fad games that board 8 likes at the moment and considering the topic got less discussion than many topics that didn’t get the change they wanted the whining was to be expected. SBAllen being a huge Street Fighter fan also helped in the decision making. Overall I think this was the correct decision despite popular choice. Before this was an easy win for Brawl and GTA, but with TWEWY replaced with a stronger game this match actually has some debate in it. GTAIV is no longer a lock for second place and with SMG appearing in round 2 it is also likely that the winner of GTAIV/SFIV could reach the division finals. So in conclusion the changes ranked from best to worst from a bracket perspective. Street Fighter IV > The World Ends With You Donkey Kong Country 2 > Fallout Soul Calibur > Super Smash Bros.
