Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. They have everything. --- The Gamer In Me |

I guess I'll ask what percentages do SFF'd games votes usually go
when eliminated? 60/40, 70/30, or what? Without that, it's really hard
to make that GotY meaningful in any way. In the battle royale: When Samus went out, nearly 100% of her votes went to Link (Snake and Sephy also moved around +/-1.5% for some reason) When Mario went out, about 70% of his votes went to Link (Cloud went down a bit and the rest went to Snake and Sephy, very slightly favouring Snake) When Sephiroth went out, about 70% of his votes went to Cloud (the rest slightly favoured Snake) --- Mustache...and Green... http://backloggery.com/rpguy96 |

Chrono Trigger > Final Fantasy VII hype train.....boarding here, next stop, bracket destruction! --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? Calvin: If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun. |
L33t_Rappa_Sam | Posted 3/5/2009 12:13:51 PM | message detail |
From: RPGuy96 | #007 Interesting. Samus case is extreme, and other two seem similar. Too bad we don't have much else to go on. I'll go ahead and do 70/30 for MP, WW, and Galaxy, once again ignoring SA and RE4's presence in the poll. For reference, 60/40 for TP: TP - 36560 - 48.05% FFX - 39535 - 51.95% 70/30 for TP: MP 4948/2120 WW 3549/1521 Galaxy 12095/5184 TP = 18910 + 4948 + 3549 + 12095 FFX = 27768 + 2120 + 1521 + 5184 TP - 39502 - 51.91% FFX - 36593 - 48.09% Then I have no clue how SA/RE4 would fall, but the numbers probably wouldn't change too much. At least, I don't think removing them would let FFX win in a 70/30 SFF split, much like in a 60/40 split it wouldn't let TP beat FFX. So basically at the end of 2007, it's reasonable to assume TP is around FFX's level. Of course, that may be different now with the whole anti-Nintendo atmosphere, but at the same time it'll probably affect the characters, which symbolize the company, more than the actual games themselves. Of course, that's based on pure conjecture and not any evidence. But yeah, TP and FFX are probably pretty close to each other. These stats aren't concrete at all since we have no clue how the SFF went in this case and where SA and RE4's votes would fall, but it's better than nothing. --- http://l33trappacat.blogspot.com/ |

Remember that the number of total votes changed as the BR progressed,
explaining why some characters actually lost percentage when a
character was removed, so those numbers, especially earlier on in the
BR, should not be taken too literally. --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? Calvin: If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun. |
