And I wouldn't be that worried about taking FFVI over anything
recent. FFX is just a special case because it's aged so well and you're
putting new Square against old Square. But if it's FFVI vs. TP? I go
FFVI every time there. I think it has fallen off some, but nothing

FFIX is a tricky customer... 4 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 5 Metroid Prime I don't put any stock into GTA anymore until it proves otherwise. The site shift back in 2005 seems to have hit GTA just about as hard as any series. 3 Kingdom Hearts 2 6 Super Smash Bros Brawl Honestly, this is an easy call for me. Brawl disappointed in the GOTY polls, but it's not losing to a Kingdom Hearts game. 2 Super Mario Galaxy 7 Zelda: Wind Waker Hey, Mario games can beat Zelda games, and this one will be no exception! FFIX > Metroid Prime Eh, Samus is a big name, but she's bigger than Metroid. I won't take MP over a major franchise name. SSBB > Galaxy This is hard to say because the Mario series beat the Smash Bros. series a couple of years ago, but I don't really expect Galaxy to be THAT strong. I don't think it's worth 45% or so on LttP indirectly, and neither is Brawl... As much as I think RE4's got great potential, I think it'll fold to a classic name like Mario World. 1 Metal Gear Solid 3 8 Final Fantasy IX I don't know how to judge either of these, but I'm loth to trust FFIX to do anything. 4 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 5 Metroid Prime Similarly, I'm wary of Prime but I'm not picking GTA in a match it could lose. 3 Kingdom Hearts 2 6 Super Smash Bros Brawl I don't know what to think about KH/II...the series did moderately well and Sora's got a lot going for him, but I don't think I'd pick either game over much. 2 Super Mario Galaxy 7 Zelda: Wind Waker People seem to forget that WW did pretty good in 2k4, and it's got the definite series advantage here, but my heart and that Century poll say Galaxy. 1 Metal Gear Solid 3 5 Metroid Prime I don't even know what to say about this. 6 Super Smash Bros Brawl 2 Super Mario Galaxy Brawl was hyped beyond belief and Galaxy was, like, anti-hyped, so this is a rather weird match. I may be underestimating FFIX, but I see it as almost a full tier below these other games. Really? I'd agree with you if we were talking about the TP/FFX/RE4/MGS1/Goldeneye group, but most of those games are a tier down. That's where I'd expect FFIX to hang around; it's one of those games that'll do really well if it gets in, because there's a lot of people who love it, even if it's not the most popular game, and it'll get a lot of support just by being FF. That was four years ago. We just had a game with Final Fantasy VII in its title nab all of 5% in the GotY poll. We've also had Zelda games bomb in GotY polls, too. yeah, not buying that reasoning - Crisis Core is a different beast from
a mainline title. Minish Cap got killed in 2003, even losing to Mario

Well, there's a difference between picking something just
because it has FF in the title, and picking something that has other
things going for it on top of that. The whole Crisis Core thing doesn't

Not just Majora's Mask. LTTP's GBA Remake only garnered 3% in a GOTY
poll. SMB3's GBA Remake......didn't even make it to the Overall GOTY
poll, getting nearly quadrupled by Final Fantasy Tactics Advance in the
GBA poll. That was SquareFAQs at its height, but I really wouldn't draw

I can't say I see a difference there. FF9 is not some unknown game. it
consistently gets as many FAQ hits as FF8 (it's currently above FF8
actually). its characters aren't as strong as Squall, but don't have a
leading role in KH to their credit either. Zidane and Vivi still beat
Kefka and company and everyone seems to give FF6 its due. FF9'll be fine. I wouldn't take it to win the pack but it's not a weakling. --- xyzzy 6:10:50 |

As for the fourpack: LttP > TP Link to the Past already proved to be stronger than Mario 3 indirectly, so I don't think it's going to lose directly. I would be wary of FFVI if only because what we saw back in 04 had the
benefit of the lowered poll placement behind it. Look at what that did

Yeah, but that was right after FFXII had come out. I think it'd probably drop off a good bit if it got ran again today. But those modern FF polls are always trouble because FFVII's there hogging almost half the vote. Need a "What's your favorite non-FFVII Final Fantasy" --- Enough expository banter!
