Ike>Vega --- FastFalcon believed in Snake. I didn't. |
HaRRicH | Posted 2/20/2009 6:32:47 PM | message detail |
Ike > Vega. Anti-Wii sentiment be damned, Ike still nearly beat
Arthas with Pikachu in the poll. That's solid, and much better than
what he did in 2k7. Vega can say he beat M. Bison the other day worse than Diablo though, and Arthas barely beat Diablo in 2k7...I really like that Vega/Arthas match-up. I'm pretty sure either one of them beats M. Bison and loses to Ike, however, though they should all be pretty close. --- Play Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (1 and 2) for Gameboy Advance today |

ROUND 1 Ryu Pikachu Pikachu may have out done him last contest, but even before SFIV I wouldn't take him over Ryu. Squall Bowser I've always wanted to see this match after the 2003 contest, but now Squall probably takes this easily. Luigi Dante Close match, but Luigi will take it in a Dante/Yoshi match. Auron Tifa I think Auron is higher on the square ladder. ROUND 2 Ryu Squall SFIV will make this a close match, but in the end Squall takes it. Luigi Auron If Auron can take on Tifa then he can defeat Luigi ROUND 3 Squall Auron Squall wins, but Auron will put up a fight. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB7%20BOP.xls Congratulations to FastFalcon for winning the guru contest, you are the best among the best. |

I suppose the reason I'd take Luigi > Dante is mainly because I believe Luigi to stand the test of time better. Not *these* times. Anyone who decides to be bullish on Nintendo right now - Mario characters, especially - is just asking for their bracket to get destroyed. Until Ninty comes out with something to appeal to the casual market it's only going to get weaker, and Dante doesn't let Liquid Snake break 45% on him to begin with. --- turnturnturn your brain in turnturnturn your brain in |

Yeah but I'm always sketchy on four-ways anyway. Casual characters usually tend to do less than we'd expect them to in it. As for Liquid Snake, well, it's possible he gained slightly. --- *is Dranze* Through fire, justice is served because FastFalcon05 owned my bracket. |

Until Ninty comes out with something to appeal to the casual market This should have been *non*-casual, sorry for the confusion. As for four-ways hurting casual fanbases, we've only seen that in a select few cases while most casual characters (Master Chief, Pokemon) have seemed to thrive in the four-way format. The only *really* big casual flop I can think of, in comparison, is Sonic, and most seem convinced that a non-trivial part of his failures is that he's become just plain weaker. --- turnturnturn your brain in turnturnturn your brain in |

It's not like we didn't just get through with a contest a few months
ago. It's not a big deal if he waits a bit before diving into another
one, he just got the noms rolling a little earlier than usual this
time. Gotta wait and see what happens on March 1st. If we don't hear
something then, who knows, but he's probably gotta deal with stuff that
out prioritizes a contest. I think we'll end up getting a bracket in early March, with the contest starting in early April. We'll see. --- Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men! |

Yeah, at this point I can't imagine him NOT aiming for the five-year
anniversary of BGE. That would still be less than five months between
then and our last contest match, which is only as bad as it is because
of how early this contest's nominations were put up. Still, in the words of Tom Petty...the waiting is the hardest part. --- Play Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (1 and 2) for Gameboy Advance today |

Nominations are up to 156842 right now. At this rate, we could almost
come close to getting around the same number of nominations that CBVII

Is it just me, or does it seem like the BGE2-noms are moving a lot
slower than the CB7-noms? I don't mean overall -- I know B8 had the
nominations open for so long first and all...but since it's hit the
main page, I thought CB7-noms hit 200,000 or so in a quicker period of
time. If that's right...that's really weird to me. --- Play Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (1 and 2) for Gameboy Advance today |

The silver haired one got beat by Kirby, who we've seen Luigi take
already (how much of the puffball's win was due to bandwagoning is up
for debate, but it was a pretty clean victory). We've also seen Luigi
come relatively close to Dante with the rat in the poll (whether the
rat is a significant LFF factor is up for debate; Samus distanced
herself from Vincent with the rat replacing Ganondorf). Granted, Luigi
didn't look good in his first round match last year (Roxas got beat
pretty bad, but he was dangerously close to Liquid), and then there
were two LFF debacles with Bowser and big brother, so I can see why
you'd be down on him. --- Mustache...and Green... http://backloggery.com/main.php?user=rpguy96 |

Oh, and I don't think we need to worry about Kirby beating Megaman. It
may have been 3 and a half years ago, and MM may be much weaker now
than then, but he still crushed Yoshi with 68%......can't see anyone in
the Yoshi/Luigi/Bowser/Kirby group getting close to Megaman. --- Hobbes: What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do? Calvin: If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun. |

And it's hard not to pull the trigger on Sonic, if not on Tifa than
certainly on Auron; he looked godawful last year and doesn't have any
excuses. I would (reluctantly) take the Vincent/Squall winner over Mega

I might be guilty of some revisionist history here, but really, Sonic
didn't beat Tifa that badly in 2005. Consider that it was a great year
for Nintendo (Sonic fit the mold even back then, let's get real), a
poor one for Square, and an awful picture for Tifa. If a rematch
occurs, especially when users can give her this: http://myhaven.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/tifa.jpg it suddenly becomes reasonable. --- Yoblazer: http://i43.tinypic.com/8zkzm1.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Dante is like the strongest of the tier below noble 9 thats not Nintendo/Square. Well we've also haven't seen Kratos and Ryu could possibly top Dante today.. Anyway: Sonic > Tifa I dunno. Just a gut thing. I don't think Tifa's the one to do it here. Auron > Sora Vincent > Squall Mega Man > Kirby Sonic > Auron Again, I just have more faith in Sonic than most I suppose. Vincent > Mega Man Mega Man 8 probably did nothing and he's still on the decline (also lol Nintendo). I'm surprised at the Luigi love. I heart the mean green more than
most people, but Dante had him easily outclassed last year, and a
format change isn't enough to make me consider a 2009 Nintendo
resurgence. Remember when Dante had every conceivable reason to beat Yoshi in 2006 and he still didn't? Sure, this is a different world, but still, Dante needs to prove he can beat a really popular character first. He hasn't done it. Now for this eightpack: Sonic Tifa I'll take the risk! Auron Sora Auron SFFs him, if there's any debate. Vincent Squall Just because. Mega Man Kirby Kirby won't be able to take him one-on-one. The format is his friend. If he got 45% or more, I wouldn't be surprised though. He's good for that. I'll take Auron over Tifa, but it could go either way, and I'll pull the trigger on Squall, just because. --- FastFalcon is without a doubt the best Guru I've ever heard of, savvy? http://www.court-records.net/animation/phoenix-superobjection.gif |
