Sonic you can make an argument for, but how has Mega Man dropped? Last
year was ruined by a joke character and Zero, and the year before that
he looked pretty consistant. Sonic is the one who nosedived the last 2
years. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

Sonic definitely looks worse than Mega Man. I don't think Mega Man needs to worry too much
about losing to the likes of Vincent/Squall/Auron/Tifa, but those
matches would certainly be close, moreso than they would have in 2k6. MM hasn't dropped off as much as Sonic, but he has dropped. MM9 might help recover that a bit but I doubt it's anything significant. --- Oh fine. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b146/KleenexTissue501/Saturn.gif |

MM hasn't dropped off as much as Sonic, but he has dropped. MM9 might help recover that a bit but I doubt it's anything significant. I never said it wouldn't be close, but I would take Mega Man in those situations with some degree of comfort. Vincent peaked in 2006 and has nowhere to go but down barring a FF7 remake. Auron is the same way. Squall is the only real threat to beat Mega Man as he has Dissidia and 2 years of seemingly improving behind him. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 |

Nintendo's actually doing okay IMO. I, for one, prefer using the PS3
controller since that's the type of controller I've always played
throughout my childhood. The Wiimote + Nunchuck is just too different
and gimmicky for the majority of GameFAQ's to prefer over the other two
controllers. Plus, These kind of polls mean nothing to actual character/fanbase strength. If it did then Master Chief should've made it to the semi finals last year whereas Link would've choked to Snake in the finals. --- The Gamer In Me |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 2/27/2009 10:13:46 AM | message detail |
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3088 It's doing noticeably worse than the last similar poll, which was pretty recent in its own right (less than a year old). Personally, I think it does matter when you see Nintendo bombing hard in every single poll. These upcoming contests are going to be bad news, and they'll force Nintendo to rethink their priorities. Do they want to continue enjoying record breaking sales and profits, or do they want to return to their former GameFAQs Contest glory? Only time will tell. --- Yoblazer: http://i43.tinypic.com/8zkzm1.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

paul still makes a valid argument however. It's possible (not saying
it's likely) that people could dislike the Wii but like classic
characters. All of my friends are like that. Have we ever seen a console owned by most of the people on the site then fail to others? I don't think we have yet. --- *is Dranze* Through fire, justice is served because FastFalcon05 owned my bracket. |
PartOfYourWorld | Posted 2/27/2009 10:28:13 AM | message detail |
GameFAQs has only really "covered" one console generation before this one, and either way, the Wii is clearly a special case. I don't think Nintendo games will be too affected by the Wii's fall from grace, but I do think characters will. Nintendo characters, more than any others, are seen as the face of their company, so it makes sense for them to ebb and flow as the attitude toward their company does. This is especially the case with the Mario crew, as KH and others have pointed out before. Basically, I won't be taking Luigi or Yoshi in any disputed matches this year. --- Yoblazer: http://i43.tinypic.com/8zkzm1.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

I don't think this poll really tells us anything we didn't already
know, but it does kinda reinforce the point that this site doesn't care
for Nintendo right now. I just wouldn't expect any big things from
their characters/games for a while. Probably gonna take some time for
people to adjust after the past two years! (square returns) --- Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men! |

Well, Link will still be top dog around here, but the Nintendo
near-elites (Ganon, Zelda, Bowser) are clearly a step below Square's
bunch (Squall, Auron, Tifa, perhaps Sora) now. Whereas the Nintendo
group would have been favored a few years ago, Sora would probably make
for a very popular upset pick now. Combine that with Snake possibly
overtaking Samus/Mario and Sonic possibly dropping the ball against
Square's near-elites, and we might have the weakest Nintendo yet. --- Yoblazer: http://i43.tinypic.com/8zkzm1.gif Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

but the Nintendo near-elites (Ganon, Zelda, Bowser) are clearly a
step below Square's bunch (Squall, Auron, Tifa, perhaps Sora) now. This was the case in 2006, too, so this has been the case for 3 years. 2005 was the last year when Nintendo was just that far above Square. Seriously, Tifa and Sephiroth were the ONLY Square characters to beat a Nintendo character that year. Just because Nintendo's dropping doesn't mean Square's going to start
stepping up again; lately all they've been doing is putting out remake
after remake, and characters like Squall or Auron aren't getting the
remake treatment. Maybe Cecil can boost up past the fodder line or
something due to FFIV being endlessly rereleased. --- Here's our chance for an all-out attack! http://backloggery.com/main.php?user=big_bob |

Dissidia will be pretty big on this site, I think. I mean, it's not
going to be Smash Bros. level or anything since it's not on a console,
but it should be a lot bigger than Crisis Core was. Helps that PSP
ownership should be getting over that 50% mark after it comes out. But yeah, while Square's rocking Nintendo in output right now, it's not the kinda stuff that GameFAQs takes to - basically, no big console RPGs. FFXIII might turn that around, though. --- Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men! |

I always found it bizarre than even during a strong square year and a
weak nintendo phase, link still tops everything, though last the
anti-voting was considerably stronger, but then again only master chief
beats cloud when it comes down to anti-voting. nintendo top>square top>square near elite>nintendo near elite, with me hoping noctis, snow and lightning to be a cast on yuna/rikku/tidus/auron level square has only to release FFVII remake to crush nintendo. btw if FFVII remake and Zelda Wii were to come out in the same month would cloud be able to beat link? --- Pearl FC:3953 0978 7217 |
