Eh...maybe, but probably not. We already saw it destroyed badly, and
when it's facing MANY more big-name games while competing with MGS4
again over the PS3-share (as well as FO3), it will do so much worse
than the PS3-poll made it look. SB may add it as a nice gesture, but it wouldn't matter much. MGS4 is still advancing in the overall-GotY and almost certainly still getting second place, then LBP will be gone in the final-GotY. It would probably amount to being just another game the handheld-GotY's will beat if it's in. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

Brawl should beat MGS4 with around 59% or so after crunching these
stats. It would probably win by a little more though, since it was
being leeched when it went against No More Heroes. --- FastFalcon owned me in the Guru Contest! |

What's so great about this poll is that it ties with the past seven out
of nine goty entrants (let's ignore the MMORPG poll). Sadly Persona 4
and Fallout 3 do not have any games in this poll that also were in
their previous poll. Using fancy and unreliable x-stats the goty poll
will look something like this. Super Smash Bros. Brawl – 50.00% Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – 47.32% Gears of War 2 – 32.41% Chrono Trigger – 21.89% World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – 16.30% Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – 13.87% Mega Man 9 – 13.16% Persona 4 - ??? Fallout 3 - ??? Biggest surprise is CT is expected to do well. Bah, harder than I thought... ...while still working on them though, it's all the more amazing CT is expected to do well off of those numbers since FF4 was most likely hurting it. Estimations based off of charmander's numbers: SSBB - 25.65% MGS4 - 24.27% Gears 2 - 16.62% CT - 11.23% WoW:WotLK - 8.36% CC:FF7 - 7.11% MM9 - 6.75% Again, it still needs Persona 4 and Fallout 3...but from what today gave us thirty minutes into the match, SSBB/MGS4 should be mighty close...it's hard to imagine FO3 getting so close to SSBB like MGS4. Then again though, we should really wait until the poll finishes and then consider how many votes each poll drew as well for slight bonuses...but hey, we're impatient and starving for this information. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. Much as I'd like to move on to the final GotY, I've got to admit this
is a worthwhile new poll. At least it gives us a chance to see some
cool new games in action outside of an environment where they get
crushed by the AAA titles for their consoles. This New IP poll and the
Downloadable poll are pretty cool additions to the lineup, but there
was no excuse for forcing us to sit through another day with the MMOs. As for the results themselves... whoa, very impressed by LBP! Just glancing over the names before voting I was under the impression that NMH might give it a run for its money, but yikes was I ever wrong. Yeah, this certainly makes me reconsider my Fallout > MGS prediction, but I still don't buy MGS4 being any kind of competition for Brawl since (as has been pointed out) NMH was the sore thumb in the Wii poll and surely overperformed on SSBB as a result. --- thengamer.com/guru/ says we just got owned hard by FastFalcon! Haha...talk about PS3-loyalty in today's poll. The PS3-ownership is at

Wow, Spore is bombing to all these options despite having almost no SFF
bringing it down. I never would've expected it to be so weak. ...nor would I have expected LBP to dominate so hard. There's no "franchise vote" there and the PS3 isn't exactly beloved, so either PS3 fanboys are exceedingly devoted or we've got a playrate disproportionately higher than ownership going on. --- turnturnturn your brain in turnturnturn your brain in |

Well, they got Sackboy into the contest before LBP came out, so at least one aspect of them are dedicated to the cause! So...it feels obvious, but I'll ask: LBP versus GTA4, what wins? If GTA4 can win that, FO3 will be expected to get 43.16% or better on MGS4 (depended on how badly GTA4 could beat LBP). That would be plenty good to get it third place in the overall-GotY, then reducing the options down to three should favor FO3 the most in the final-GotY (between the smaller PS3-base and not having Gears 2 or WoW:LotLK around any more, that has to help). --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. GTA4 of course. this is a poll of games that didn't do very well and
aren't very well known. LBP, if nothing else, is well-known. LBP
absolutely bombed sales-wise compared to expectations and it's still

LBP is making MGS4 look really good right now. And CT being projected
to get 21% (even, say, 25%+ if you believe it suffered a lot of LFF) on
Brawl isn't surprising. Sure it's a port of a game that wasn't made in
2008 in a 2008 GOTY poll, but it's still the #3 game on the site. Right
now I'm rather skeptical of this poll though: LBP doing so well coupled
with the word "original" in the question doesn't quite sit right with
me. Although I would love to see MGS4 give Brawl a fight like this poll

I think today drives the point home about how meaningless comparisons
are between these polls - what's the difference between MGS4 and Brawl
when LBP is wrecking the Wii's third place game? Brawl will probably still have a pretty easy win, but it's hard to say how much more impressive, if at all, it was in the Wii poll over MGS4. Hard to take anything away from it when there's nothing to go on. Guess we'll find out in the next few days. --- Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! Still I thought CT was going to struggle against FFVII and here it's expected to beat WoW with no problem. True enough, but I think most of us are rather anxious to get to the main GotY-polls and it's the first time we've been able to try extrapolation like this for them.
