Don't forget that Spore was the most hated NEW PC game this year.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the disdain for Albion and just
wanting to see WoW lose here caused the first five minutes to look like
that. Spore certainly wasn't a golden child, proven by how many people
torrented it to "prove a point." It's just the lesser of two evils. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

What the junk, Spore can't even keep up with the most hated game on
the site despite befitting from the MMO LFF. That's pretty eww. This is the PC crowd here. I doubt most of the WoW haters are even going to care to vote. Yeah, Spore's dropping like a rock and WotLK is going up. This should
end up closer than last year's affair between tBC and Crysis,
but...it'll be ugly. Looking at how Spore is doing in comparison with Audiosurf though (I just heard it was essentially a mini-game...what else should I know about it?), this still doesn't mean great things. Good victory for WoW, but it doesn't mean much in the long run. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2984 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3351 I'll grant you that Season Two of S&M and Crysis Warhead are doing much worse this year than their associated games from last year, but it would be silly to take those comparisons seriously in the first place. Truth is, there's not been a significant PC release here (ignoring expansion packs for already-popular games) to come out since 2004 and the GotY-polls would support this (Oblivion doesn't count since it was also on the 360...dunno why it wasn't multi-platform). Spore's just showing us that trend continues. WoW probably is stronger than last year, to your credit. Better ownership, new expansion, over eleven million users now...it was bound to happen. Still, I would be cautious to call it particularly respectable. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

Arthas only even won because you rigged the poll, Albion. Hence why
Ike's much higher in the lol xstats. I'd like to see how Arthas would
do completely legitimately, which we may get now that you were banned
for rallying on MMOChampion. ^_^ That said, even though it's flopping now, I didn't expect Spore to do this well considering how much it disappointed. Albion, you yourself posted an image that showed that your Arthas rally
topic had approaching 7000 hits before the match even ended. Somehow I doubt that only 1 in 7 of those came from a voter. And that's not even taking potential "other" votes into account. And the high votals of that one match show that SOMEONE was receiving a lot of outside votes. More than L Block, no less. Who had the only rally? Arthas. But no, rallying is not legitimate. It alters the usual voting traffic in an unfair way. The polls are supposed to find out what the population of GameFAQs thinks, and a surge of people who would not normally visit GameFAQs disrupts that. I'd also like to add that if Spore WASN'T a huge disappointment, it'd
be going equal with WotLK right now, maybe even winning. The game was
played by a lot of people, it just so happened that the hype betrayed
it. That's why it's doing as well as it is-it got massive exposure.
There's also the fact that the only decent non-MMO besides Spore is
very obscure(it's Sins of a Solar Empire btw). So I wouldn't say this reflects negatively on WoW's strength. --- Under guru champ, FastFalcon related tyranny since 20/11/08. Mother 3. That is all. |

I think you don't understand what my post was getting at. It was saying that Spore was so exposed, so a large amount of votes was inevitable-ergo there was no sign of WoW's weakness here. I doubt 1000 different people clicked on the topic much less voted in the poll. Albion himself probably racked up a few hundred hits plus there was discussion in the topic so people were going back to the topic to either check on the poll or to comment on something somebody said. If you could see the hits of this topic we probably already have almost 1000 hits despite only having less than 100 posts and only about 20 people actually look at this topic. Also people are less likely to vote if the character being rallied is winning and Arthas had a 3000 vote lead at one point. Personally I would only credit Albion with a net gain of about 100-150 votes. But no, rallying is not legitimate. It alters the usual voting traffic in an unfair way. The polls are supposed to find out what the population of GameFAQs thinks, and a surge of people who would not normally visit GameFAQs disrupts that. The poll loses credibility! By your logic the contest has lost credibility ever since Scorpion/Pac-Man back in 2002. Before the 2008 contest the potd was averaging about just under 100k votes yet the first round of the contest averaged about 130k and it only rises after that. The whole point of the contest is to attract people to the site not who is GameFAQs' favourite character. That's why CJayC redid Xenogears/Pokemon G/S/C when it was only accepting registered users. rallying always benefits the game/character being rallied for. Because
you rally at places that prefer that game/character. Do you really
think a huge mmorpg site will vote for random nintendo characters over

Rallying has a real effect, but it's only going to matter in matches
that are already really close. Even a 51-49 match in 1v1s is going to
be well over a 2000 vote margin and beyond the rallying reach of
anything besides Starcraft and possibly World of Warcraft (we haven't
seen it in action yet). Rallying is much more potent in 4-ways, and I
think Hogger, Cube, and Crono all owe their wins to rallying, although
all those matches were already close. --- Link he come to town |
