Yeah, but Dante probably beats Yoshi now, and Yoshi's at least near the near elite tier, or he was when they faced off in 2006. To be fair, Laharl might've boosted (Disgaea DS, baby!), and if anyone

match... I mean, as crappy as Master Chief ended up looking compared to
last year, Kain still came out looking okay. And ~dearest Rydia~

TJF can only do so much. Although it is true you can't do much better than ~Rydia~ in that regard. Still, no excuse for Kain. And those pictures... well... they're okay, but they're still not very good. I personally prefer Paladin Cecil's picture personally but they're not bad. Those pics are better then the old terminator picture against kirby,
but i'd say its on same level as the paladin pic he got this year.
Maybe a little bit better since it stands out more, but not enough to

Luigi was going to beat them each in 2k6 anyway -- he was a two-seed
and had clean wins over each of them. He beat Kirby a little worse than
Bowser did the year before and Luigi beat Bowser this year, so there's
not a lot of controversy on that front. He beat Kirby by 2.31% and Zero
by 3.71% when he was already in their range by the x-stats and was
coming hot off of the great-selling NSMB. Luigi could have been an
eight-seed against a one-seeded Zero and still have the easy
bracket-advantage outside of B8 anyway; as a vehement Zero-supporter, I
know you've had to notice his poor prediction-percentages in
practically every match. Add in the idea that Mario SFF'd Zero in 2k5
(which I'm still not sold on, but whatever) and Luigi is Mario's
"Player Two," and all the reasoning you ever need is right there. You
don't have to bring up seeding. We can even take it further about how
the Mega Man series's stock has done nothing but fall up to that point
while SSBB-hype and the upcoming releases of the Wii and LoZ:TP were
looming so more Nintendo fans were browsing the site...but that's
unnecessary. Maybe they each could have made closer matches with Luigi, but he's a far better-known character from a much bigger series in their range coming fresh off a new game...plus he was a two-seed, not a one-seed, and Kirby was a three-seed in their match anyway -- that's not going to matter in a match decided by 2.31% very often, especially a SFF-match. There's not a lot of room for fussing about those matches now that they happened; they were debatable then, but I don't think it's exactly a mystery now. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. I think the 1 seed is the only seed that causes major bracket
advantages. 2 seeds historically haven't necessarily had great bracket
support like 1 seeds have (and have been prone to upsets as well, look

I made a topic about this, but I didn't get a response and figures I'd have more support if I posted this here: Does anyone know for sure how many contest matches there have been? I just finished ranking them all, but I copied the list into a spreadsheet, and I appear to be off by 7. I got 574 when I tried to work it out myself (63x8 [02, 03, Sp04, 04, 05, Fall06, 07, 08] + 31x2 (Sp05, 06) + 3 for ToC and +5 for Battle Royale), but there's only 567 coming up in the spreadsheet. But it really didn't, in retrospect - Kirby was about as far off from Bowser as you'd expect him to be these days (heck, he'd probably be the favorite), with the *real* outlier being Snake/Bowser. The only thing that doesn't make a heckuva lot of sense is Bowser/Ryu looking at it that way, and Ryu's just begging to get exposed. Look at it this way - he got all of 55% on Rikku, who looked pretty crummy the next year. he let Kratos get nearly as much on him as he did on ALUCARD pre-GoW2, and only looked so good against Mega Man because MM was in a downward spiral and he was given about the biggest picture advantage you could concoct for him. 2007 was a big win borne of triple SFF, then barely ekeing out a win against Bowser even though Shadow was probably bringing him down a touch in retrospect. Then he struggles with an Auron being SFFed by CLOUD, of all people. Then this year he loses to L-Block outright in the first round, does the same thing in Round 2 and then gets shown up even worse when Pikachu succeeds when he fails. Of course he's not weaker than Pikachu of all things, but still - it reflects poorly on him. He's not a near-elite. I understand what you're saying with Dante, though... it's hard to look as favorably on him after how we've seen Yoshi and Riku bomb. I don't think there's too many outside of the biggest Nintendo slurpers that take Yoshi in a rematch, but I can't imagine him being terribly far away on that front.
