Mario Kart 64 vs. Super Smash Bros. 64: Who you got?

interesting match to say the least. i'd have to lean with SSB, though, since it's a bigger series by far, and they'd vote it probably over most stuff.

I don't think the original Smash Bros. could double Mario Kart 64. Maybe Melee could, but I dunno. I think Mario Kart 64 could do very well this contest. I wouldn't necessarily let the Series Contest tell us otherwise.

but I'd be stunned if FFT could break 40% on MGS today.

I wouldn't. I'd be more stunned if it didn't, quite honestly. The name "Final Fantasy" is still worth a lot.

wouldn't even come close to seeing with the votes we get today. Could Xenogears even put up 35% on G/S/C?

Didn't we see Xenogears improve significantly when non-registered voters were allowed to vote in that poll? I remember being surprised by that as it seemed counterintuitive that a cult RPG would be helped by more votes, but that seemed to be the case.

Pokemon is one of the franchises that has benefited the most from the demographic shift. I'd be stunned if Xenogears won, but I think it wouldn't get COMPLETELY destroyed. Fei did decently enough in this year's contest, for whatever that's worth.

Mario Kart 64 vs. Super Smash Bros. 64: Who you got?

MK64 would crush SSB64 easily. MK64 is one of the gems of the 64. SSB was a great game, but only extremely die-hard fans of the series considers it an N64 classic.

I didn't see him link it in here, so I'll do it for him... have you guys seen charmander's new Contest, where you predict which 64 games make the bracket? Still probably plenty of time to get your guess in since I'm thinking we'll see the bracket on around Christmas or so, but if you'd like to make a pred now already you can do so at

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=47060375

Speaking of if the upcoming Contest will have only 64 games... tranny, did your petition topic purge?

lol at the notion of Axfail Steel beating a Zelda character. That was one of the worst picks anyone could make. The Legend of Zelda fanbase will NOT let their series fold. (Except for Tingle, but who cares about him anyway?) Zelda refused to fold to Mario in round 1. Axfail Steel, in addition to nearly getting tripled by MIDNA, lost to Edgeworth by 5%. Hell, even Cloud and Mewtwo (Mewtwo especially) got hit hard by the dedication of the Zelda fanbase. And Midna is miles apart from Ganondorf in terms of contest strength. But hey, maybe he can beat Tingle! ...Except Guitar Hero characters (or avatars, better yet) have no place in these contests whatsoever. (And neither does Tingle, for that matter.)

Guitar Hero 3 vs TP

Tell me GH3 doesn't win there. My flaw came from the fact that I thought people would support a GH character. I was wrong.

And on the subject of FF6, does anybody else have a feeling that it and all the other "strong" older games like LttP and Mario 3 are going to underperform due to higher votals + younger userbase?

Back in '04, it was "hip" to hate Pokemon. That whole stupid fad is over now, and the main reason I took Pikachu so far last year. People say he'll still get anti-voted in a 1v1 situation, but I think people are now blinded by nostalgia enough that they'll overlook the annoying qualities of the rat.

I'd still like to see 128 with 2 matches per day for the first round or two.

The problem is that vote totals would probably suffer for one or both matches. Remember that the Games Contest had two polls running simultaneously for a little while at the beginning? It noticeably hurt the vote totals.

Probably the best way to have it work so everyone votes in both would be to have both polls next to each other horizontally. Probably pushing the whole site down a bit for a the contest banner on top, and pushing the left side of the site down a bit more for the second poll. The very best would probably be redesigning the site to be wider horizontally, which is quite needed anyway I think, but I really doubt that.

Another thing that might work to get more games into the contest would be to make it a 96 game contest where the top 32 get byes for the first round.

Though none are particularly elegant solutions, so I very much expect only 64 games to make it.

One solution is probably to put 2 matches inside the same poll.

Like:

A vs. B
C vs. D

* A and C
* A and D
* B and C
* B and D

It might be a bit confusing at first, but I think we would eventually get used to it.
charmander6000 | Posted 12/12/2008 10:56:45 AM | message detail
I still think the other poll should be where the ad is and have it randomly switch back and forth, as long as people can see the match picture on the bottom poll the vote totals won't decrease by that much.

The SMB3 vs. MG and Metroid vs. Pac-Man matches you couldn't see the pictures so you would have to literally find the match by scrolling.
