Anyone else think that Goldeneye is going to be a good bit less strong?
It seems like a game that would really be hurt with age, as FPSs just
advance more and more. Nostalgia only gets you so far. --- FastFalcon believed in Snake. I didn't. |

depends what you think of SSB and Majora's Mask, I guess.. Which classic Nintendo 64 game would you most like to see announced for the Wii's Virtual Console? Eh, in a similar poll Earthbound got close to Chrono Trigger. I don't have much faith in them. It's just that whenever I mention Goldeneye to anyone anymore, they usually go "Man, those were some fun times...it kind of sucks now though." it'll still be strong, just not as strong as in 2k4. --- FastFalcon believed in Snake. I didn't. |

woo CT/FF6/Secret of Mana/I think maybe something else too in the same poll not to mention CTDS coming out Goldeneye was dated as hell in 2005 too. it's not like people hadn't played Halo then, and it still got #7. --- xyzzy |

Goldeneye should do well enough. I'd probably put it in the same group
as MGS1 and RE4 - which may be high or low depending on where you stand
it seems. I think it's a good top 20 game. Given how people still talk
about the game, I don't think age would hurt it anymore than it hurts

Super Mario 64 is the only game I can think of that might be hurt by
aging, since it's been surpassed by a superior sequel in that time. It

Mario 64 is less likely to be forgotten over time because, well, it's
Mario. GoldenEye always runs the risk of being forgotten as time goes

The second one is probably Killer 7 easy, just cause this site hates the PS3. Mario 64 obviously, but I have this nagging feeling for some reason that KH would make a match out of it, though I don't know why. --- Gunner is, what is the word... passionate. but i think that MichaelWClark dude is far crazier than anything Gunner has posted. | I said it before, if you really want 128 games,
have the first round be 4 way and then a 1v1 with the remaining 64
games. No big games get "screwed" as MWC put it, and you get to see all
the Fails games you want get the piss beat out of them. That's the only
reasonable alternative to a straight 64 bracket, unless you want to do
a 96 entrant bracket with a 3-way match at the end of it. --- Like Darth Maul, the bastard child of Michael Flatley and Hellboy. -trancer1 FastFalcon is apparantly better at contesty stuff than me. |

| I'd put Prime in the first tier with Super
Metroid. It's still a debatable match, I'd say. Plus, Prime's closer to

| I think both Mario 64 and GE are bad examples for
games that will be forgotten, because both were really groundbreaking
at the time and are still considered high water marks for the genre by
many to this day. When Galaxy hit for instance, what was all the talk?
"I hear it's really good... but is it better than Mario 64?" I think
much the same is true for the FPS genre... Halo was billed as "the
Goldeneye Killer", TimeSplitters 2 called itself the Next Goldeneye,
and of course something like a dozen Bond games have tried to recapture

For how good the game if yes. For popularity no, I would say Prime is right there in that regard. I would actually argue the opposite. Metroid Prime was an outstanding game, definitely on Super Metroid's level, but I don't think everyone else sees it that way. A clever option, until you realize that the second round would be terrible since we'd already seen all the matches in the first round. Well, the matches would change depending on who was in the group with
the two that advanced. Or you could just reseed them, but that wouldn't

Well, the other option is to mix and match the winners so that they
face someone new in the second round. For example, winner of the first
match stays in his position for round 2, but he faces the runner up of
the lowest seeded fourpack in division 3 for example (assuming 32-game
