Generally in the past Totally mainstream FPS that aren't character
based do like crap on Gamefaqs. I don't see Call of Duty 4 as any

For the last time, WaW did not replace CoD4. I think many people knew
it wasn't going to replace it since Infinity Ward didn't make it and it

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2939 As pointed out earlier, this is why World of Warcraft is not comparable with Starcraft. Starcraft is a game that Gamefaqs genuinely likes. An outright majority of the site voted against WoW in that poll, and the percentage of the site that play the game and haven't quit is around 15%. It might beat CoD4, which is probably stronger than any of the Halo games even now, thanks to lack of anti-votes, but it isn't beating something like TP. For that matter, I'm a bit scared that Starcraft will meet a fairly strong game, stronger than the likes of Halo but nowhere near the likes of SSBM, early, before it can build its momentum like last time. On the other hand, after seeing how powerful bandwagons are the past 2 years, I really wonder what would have happened had SC beaten SSBM and faced FFVII 2 days later, in the second semifinal, on Saturday. FFVII would have almost certainly won, yes, but it could have been a really crazy match with SC probably winning the first hour and really high votals. --- Congratulations to Crono for making his first true finals match, your 5 time contest champion, Link, and the Guru Champion FastFalcon |

Yea cause Halo 3 wasn't the most hyped game ever or anything? The game
was a disappointment to most fans, a huge one. Lots of people still
play it but most felt it was Halo 2.5 and jumped to CoD4 as soon as it

Well up until that point it was and I don't think they ever released

Even if the new one isn't as "Good", it still is the new one and more popular in peopels minds I know nobody remembers Goldeneye now that countless other Bond games are out now. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

So a game has to revolutionize in order to be remembered? Call of Duty 4 is amazing and is anything but "just another FPS". The game pushed the envelope in terms of graphics and presentation, had a phenomenal single player campaign with a good storyline and some shocking moments and was the most popular online FPS for quite some time. --- What's quicker than an Ocelot? Still, if it's a great multi-platform FPS that not only millions of
people played but loved it more than a game with such sales as Halo
3's...and it won GotY's at many places and took runner-up at GAMEFAQS,
so it's got staying power. CoD:WaW isn't going to got it votes any more
than SSBB is going to cost SSBM votes from original SSBM-fans who
aren't so pleased with SSBB. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

You put too much faith in how many people are playing the game. People loved CoD4 and will vote for it in a poll, the fact that they don't play it anymore won't influence their vote in most cases. True for most games but I gotta side with Albion here. FPS' especially online ones where all anyone cares about is the next, newer, bigger, better one don't have concrete fanbases. People are very willing to move onto the next one and forget all about it's predecessor. I wouldn't take CoD4 to amount to much of anything. --- mmm test icicles |

1 - Zelda: Ocarina of Time 16 - Left 4 Dead Good setup. The biggest blowout machine in the bracket draws some nice fodder. I expect 90%+. 8 - Portal 9 - Donkey Kong Country 2 Awesome 8/9. I expect most of the board to take DKC2 without a second thought, but I'm far more cautious. I look at that game and see four letters: FLOP. But will it flop hard enough to lose to a relatively niche PC game? Hell yeah, give me Portal in a squeeker. 5 - Mega Man 2 12 - Starfox 64 Another great match to entertain the upset, but it's too hard after just pulling the trigger on Portal. I've always thought SF64 could make waves (it was one of only three N64 games worth a damn during the 2+ year stretch between Mario and Ocarina), but Mega Man 2 could be the blue bomber's strongest game. I wouldn't take Star Fox over Mega Man X, so I can't take it here. 4 - Grand Theft Auto 4 13 - Final Fantasy IX You expected complaints? This bracket is awesome so far! I especially like how the seeding here would make anyone feel crazy for considering the upset, but delving deeper always reveals more. Four FF games made the 2004 bracket, and all four looked either good or great or outstanding. IX may not be a top-tier FF, but it has a fanbase, it's on the most popular FF system, and it's sold millions. Compare that to GTA4, which is practically invisible these days. Forget about pulling the trigger - I'm unloading the clip on this upset. 6 - Super Metroid 11 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Another fine match, but I think Samus takes this. Goldeneye gave Symphony of the Night the ol' 60/40 in 2004, and I can't help but feel that SotN has gotten weaker since then (just look at Alucard). I feel weird even suggesting that Super Metroid would have gotten beat down as easily. Gimme Metroid here. 3 - Call of Duty 4 14 - World of Warcraft Ohhhhhhhh man. I would have preferred pitting WoW in an environment that would have generated way more heat (say, against a Halo or a Tetris), but this is still highly debatable. Based on its GotY performance a year ago, you've gotta figure that CoD4 is at least on Halo's level. You'd figure that, but I probably wouldn't. The game just seems like it would flop in a contest setting; I almost think we'd see a GTA effect on steroids. However, WoW is a game that's simply disliked by much (most?) of GameFAQs. This one is almost a coin toss, but seeing as how I expect a CoD flop, I'll take WoW and see what happens. 7 - Kingdom Hearts 10 - Metal Gear Solid 3 Evil man, these are two of my top 10! MGS3 has a hugely devoted fanbase, but it still may be the weakest of the original three. Kingdom Hearts is a weaker series (saw that in 2006), but it still did a great job with only two games, and I'm convinced that the KH of today is stronger than the one we saw in 2004. Give me Kingdom Hearts. Actually, give me a box of tissues; evil match. 2 - Resident Evil 4 15 - Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Good gauge for RE4. COD4 will do fine if it gets into a contest. People aren't going to
'forget' about a game one year later. It's way too recent and fresh in
people's minds for GameFAQs - who took really
well to the game, in a way that no other COD has - for them to just
pass it up, especially if we're talking about the alternative being
World at War. Wait until the GotY polls - World at War won't do well in
any poll its in. I don't know what the numbers look like, but I'm sure
someone can find something showing that COD4's still one of the most

How well it does in a contest depends on your expectations. It's

Only way I could see CoD4 winning a match is if it gets a high seed due
to review scores, then beats up on fodder or low midcard. If it gets a

Earthbound is going to be pissing off genitalia all over the world, apparently. I want to say Phoenix takes it since EB is so old and largely unknown, but PW:AA is pretty unknown too and I still remember these polls: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2151 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2243 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2751 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2861 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3012 No PW game has ever been looked forward to by many people nor has any game fared well in GotY-polls, not to mention neither Phoenix and Miles aren't very impressive. Then again, neither is Ness and he's got the SSB-series on his side. It's worth pointing out at least EB has shown it can impress in some way or another: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3197 I don't like gauging these games by any of these polls, honestly, but this one's the newest and has the highest percentage against bigger-name games despite other RPGs and Nintendo titles in there against EB.
