If ToS makes it into the contest, it should face FF7 in the first
round...and ToS shouldn't have a pic. I'm that tired of seeing it. Also, I'll hiss at every user who nominates it. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

TOS would be high-end fodder, if such a thing exists in game form. fine
to nominate, just get trash like Abyss and Vesperia outta here. same
with Phoenix Wright. I really disagree about the idea of mid-carder status for ToS from earlier. Sorry to rain on your parade, but... http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1870 http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/top10.html ...MP2:E beat ToS by over 10% despite a LoZ-rep and two Mario games in the poll (not to mention ToS was one of the two non-Nintendo games in the poll of seven). MP2:E was #74 on the Top 100 List while MP was #29 so there should be so difference between them, and MP was really over-rated in 2004 thanks to Starcraft so it should be brought down from its high position in the x-stats. I would probably call MP a mid-carder in today's GameFAQs (maybe high mid-carder), not to mention that there's no doubt ToS hasn't aged as well as any MP-game... ...THEN we can bring up character-representation. They almost always looked poor, so let's look at who all they have lost to and won over: LOST TO: MMX (Lloyd) Zero (Lloyd) Scorpion (Kratos A.) Diablo (Kratos A.) Alucard (Kratos A.) Jill Valentine (Sheena) Captain Falcon (Kratos A.) Midna (Kratos A.) Marcus Fenix (Zelos) Kefka (Mithos, Zelos) HK-47 (Lloyd) Mudkip (Lloyd) Diddy Kong (Kratos A.) Tom Nook (Zelos) WON OVER: Wesker (Lloyd) Agent 47 (Kratos A.) Jak (Lloyd) Tom Nook (Lloyd) It's hard to fault them in some match-ups...but they are 4-15. I know Kratos Aurion barely outdid Ridley against Diablo in 2k5, but at this point I would take Ridley over anyone ToS could throw at him one-on-one or in a fair four-way. I mean, Kratos Aurion couldn't beat CF or Diddy Kong when they were in the same match, and he was the guy we were banking on being the strongest ToS-rep since 2k5. Lloyd's won three matches, but Wesker/Jak/Tom Nook are not in any way respectable opponents...and Wesker/Jak kept close with him. I'm not sold ToS is more than fodder. The best thing it's done is outdo Halo 2 on the Top 100 List through write-ins, and that was solely because of rallying. Not only that, but it only really shows it can get nominations...not necessarily votes. I'm not sold. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. How bad was it? ...I don't want to talk about it. |

let's be honest: the following games would make a 64 game field. Tales of Symphonia Okami Earthbound Phoenix Wright obscure RPG #1 (maybe Skies) obscure RPG #2 (probably Disgaea) fifth-tier Nintendo game all 73 people who have played it love fourth-tier Square game all 61 people who have played it love etc etc. if you're expecting the top 64 games to make the contest, you missed a contest where River City Ransom and Phantasy Star had a chance to win a round. --- xyzzy blah blah blah Fastfalcon blah blah blah Solid Snake blah blah blah Guru Contest blah |

I'm also not sold that Kratos Aurion is susceptible to Nintendo SFF...and, if he is, it doesn't help your case that he gets the ass-end to Captain Falcon and Diddy Kong if you're arguing for ToS to be more than fodder. --- FastFalcon05 absolutely decimated me in the Guru challenge. I really don't think we should be looking at ToS characters to judge
how strong the game itself would be. I mean, just 'cause most Brawl
guys flopped this year doesn't mean that Brawl flops in a games
contest. That may not be the best example, but still it's usu-whoa what

RCR and especially Phantasy Star got in due to the nomination system. The same applies for Skies and Shenmue and the like. While I would expect to see a good deal of fodder, particularly in the 11-14 seeds, with a straight nomination system we should get a much better field than the first games contest. --- Mustache...and FastFalcon... Someday I will learn to read. |

The Melee/Brawl relationship is a very complex one. At first glance, it
would seem like Melee would be on top. It's been out longer, has the
more hardcore following, and no group has ever really been vocally
disappointed by it. Brawl has the sales, but it doesn't have the
longevity and doesn't seem to have the same hardcore backing (more of a
casual game). There have also been many people vocally critical of the
game. Despite this, every time I ran a Brawl/Melee poll on this board
(which I did for months), Brawl dominated. Just check it yo: AFTER LAUNCH: Brawl def. Melee, 38-1 (97.44%) MONTH ONE: Brawl def. Melee, 75-13 (85.23%) MONTH TWO: Brawl def. Melee, 54-19 (73.97%) MONTH THREE: Brawl def. Melee, 70-27 (72.16%) MONTH FOUR: Brawl def. Melee, 68-18 (79.07%) Obviously, the board isn't indicative of GameFAQs as a whole, but results like that do plant a seed (a pretty damn big one) of doubt. --- Yoblazer: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Oh, I would actually be very scared of a direct matchup between Melee
and Brawl, but I'm pretty confident Melee would be stronger indirectly.
Although perhaps it is time to run that poll again- I'm thinking Melee

It wouldn't surprise me if Melee was stronger than Brawl, but it
wouldn't be by anything significant. The Brawl 'hate' is about as
overstated as Twilight Princess 'hate' - there's a vocal group that
doesn't like it, but most people by and large think both are top tier
