I'm glad to see that the negative options only have 30% of the vote. If
that keeps up and the fifth option wins, I'll be more confident about
Bacon staying true to his hint and giving us a Games Contest early next

I just called it a joke, as the joke characters would fall off huge

It probably helps that the FFVII crew sucked ass during the semi-finals
and finals, seeing as though visitors to Board 8 generally seem to
complain more about FFVII's dominance than anything else, including

Glad to see that BGE is even acknowledged as an option The BGE option has this poll won. It has a lead of 1554 votes and continues to slowly increase its lead. However, there's a heated battle between the first 2 options for second place. yessss BGE option. I don't know why Bacon thinks he has to have some
weird ass gimmick in everything he does. I'd understand if he wanted to
have his hand in things, but once the contests get going it's
abundantly clear he doesn't give a flying **** about them. If that's
the case, I don't see why he won't just give us what we want, instead
of coming up with something that's bound to be worse than the classic
set-up. I really hope a BGE has nothing to do with MyGames, and more

Man my bracket is going to be terrible for this thing. Even though 2K4
will be wholly unreliable, I don't even remember 99% of what happened
that contest. It was the first time I came to the board, and it wasn't
until a few matches into the contest. Even then, I invested a lot more
of my time into the board shenanigans than I did the contest. It'll
still be fun as hell to do though. Plus I feel like I can actually get

I know our confidence in Bacon is low, but I don't think he can
possibly do anything as bad as bypassing the entire nomination process.

Yo: Division 1: This I like. I actually don't think I would change anything here. Division 2: Link's Awakening doesn't have a particularly good spot, and probably doesn't need to be in the bracket if that's the best you can come up with. I'd swap it out for Mario 1, and then give Mario 1 a non-Nintendo opponent. I think Mario 1 would be a good fit in MGS4's fourpack, probably at the expense of Super Metroid, but I'd imagine estimates of its strength are likely to vary wildly. I like FFT/SMW, but the winner seems somewhat wasted going against LttP. I'm complaining about Galaxy/Prime a little later; what I might do is make FFT/SMW//Galaxy/Prime a fourpack in division 4 and make Mario RPG/Kart 64 the 6/11 in division 2. This stretches the seeding a bit, but not too badly. Division 3: This I like. The one thing I would change is having FFX go against either Brawl or TP and then the winner faces the other rather than Brawl/TP vs FFX. You get more or less the same outcome, but you might avoid a SFF match if FFX wins the first match. You can probably make a good case for having Gold/Silver as the 15 seed and switching FFX/SCII with TP/GS. Division 4: I don't think it's a particularly good idea to have FFVI and VII in the same division. I also think FFVI should be challenged more, but the only thing that could reasonable defeat it before FFVII is Halo and that's a stretch. I think the best thing to do with it is move it to division 3 as the 4 or 5 seed, and bring Halo/WoW along with it. And then move MGS4/Super//KH/SFII down to division 4, playing with the seeding as necessary. This gives you Halo/FFVI a round earlier, and then pits the winner against Mario 3, which it could conceivably beat (although that's not looking too likely). I don't think Galaxy/Prime is a terribly good idea, and the Mario RPG match is kind of bleh too. But it looks like your low seeds are chosen with care so I don't have another spot to recommend it. Later rounds: These are set up about as well as you can hope for if you want Ocarina/FFVII to be the final. The only real beef I have is with FFVI's position, but I talked about that already. --- Mustache...and FastFalcon... |

What are you talking about??? The idea of the 4way format was received positively, as most of the board welcomed a nice little change. Most of us also enjoyed the leniency that Bacon had in terms of which "characters" he'd actually allow in the contest. CJayC would have never thrown Block and Cube in here, and would have been on the edge about entrants like Midgar Zolom. Contrary to the sentiment in this topic, last year's Character Battle is still a personal favorite for many Board 8ers. Even his decision to go 4way again this year wasn't received with outright hostility or anything. Also, the fact that he let us have far more input with things like match pictures was cheered almost unanimously. I think there's more disappointment in Bacon for being slow in getting contests off the ground than there is for the way he actually runs them. Remember, his two years at the helm are the first where we've only had one contest a year since 2003. We all expect two a year now, and we'll give the stinkeye to anyone who doesn't give em to us. Either way, if Bacon gives us the goods early next year, I'm sure we'll all love him again, and he has never once bungled up a nomination process. While I don't like Fire Emblem getting gobbled up by FFVII, you're
really stretching it to give FE a seed in the 7-10 range due to split
nominations, and I don't think there's a single match it would win as
an 11-14. The low seeds in this bracket were clearly chosen with upset
potential in mind, and having Fire Emblem get beaten by Goldeneye,
robbing us for Goldeneye/MGS3, is worse than simply having Fire Emblem
get beaten by FFVII. In a 128 games bracket (ie, heaven), you can justify giving Blazing Sword (and maybe Path of Radiance!) a winnable match. In a 64 games bracket you just can't. --- Mustache...and FastFalcon... |

Bracket is really good, except for some bad SFF matches - ALttP/SMW
then Melee, Galaxy's whole path, though TP/Brawl and MP/MK64 could be
good. Always preferred eight divisions to four, too. Good stuff

If Zelos Wilder can get into a contest, a
guy who has a small yet dedicated fanbase within an ensemble cast game
that is a non-FF RPG...yeah, ToS probably get a high seed in the games

But ToS characters perform like crap, so I can't expect the game itself to do much better. --- Isaac and Princess Kumatora for SSB4! SSBB Mains: Zelda, Peach, Lucas, Ness FastFalcon sure showed us his moves in the Guru Contest! |

I disagree there. ToS fans have never been able to agree on which
characters they like the best (a.k.a. an ensemble cast). The game
should fare much better...I think midcarder status is a good estimation. --- FastFalcon believed in Snake. I didn't. |
