| Considering FFX > FF8, MGS1 > MGS2, and
Solid's role in MGS2 is very reduced as well as only playable for maybe
an hour...I'm comfortable with that. I think comparing FFX to MGS2 is
much more favorable for FF than comparing FF8 to MGS1. Solid was most

Alrighty, I'm going to soon begin my attempt to open up Character Battle VIII to all
fictional characters... unless you guys shoot it down, that is. I've
proposed the idea before and was surprised when it was met with a fair
bit of negativity. What do you guys think now? A standard, 1v1 bracket
with Vader, Spider-Man, Batman, and James Bond would be the coolest

I'm back to loving the Linkster again, and I must say that this
performance is magnificent and casts a long overdue shadow on Cloud's
2003 win. Heh. This match doesn't really say anything about the match in 2003 - Toon Link, or any other form of Link for that matter, was going to hold up against Classic Link. I'd rather just have a Games Contest, and then a standard character
contest with no gimmicks, same rules as 2002-4. Maybe we can have a
Fictional Character contest the year after that, but it's been too long

It would get ugly. Even excluding arguments like "Gamefaqs is a games
site, keep it games only", non game characters have much more mass
appeal than game characters. Plus, there would be whining from every
single damn side, when they get included, when they win matches, when
they lose matches, all the freaking time. Maybe one day it'll be the right time to open the Character Battle up. I won't say never. Just not now. --- "Your daddy was quite the warrior. Do you measure up to him?" "I don't know. I didn't bring my ruler." |

There's just so many characters out there when you open the floodgates
like that. I wouldn't expect any VG characters besides the NN making
the bracket, and even then I'm not convinced even all of them would

I would love to see such a contest. I don't know if I necessarily favor
it over just game-characters (only because once it opens up like this,
I doubt it would go back to just game-characters), but I'll show
support because of the potential of awesomeness and the fact it would

You can make the same argument the other way around. The breadth of
outside fictional characters is so large that only a few of them (the
Batmans and Spider-Mans) would get sprinkled in among a majority cast
of game characters. Regardless, I figure the nomination system would be

Whoa whoa whoa...there will still be a "when in Rome" affect -- people
aren't going to forget about video game characters when nominating for
characters on a website that has more than annually hosted contests
involving video games. I feel like that would show in voting to a
degree, too. At WORST, it's 50/50 on games/other-fiction characters...which would still bring in thirty-two/sixty-four new characters, some of which would have a chance at beating NN'ers. --- NRT winners: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong Country 2 Remember these games! |

Ugh, I'm not interested in seeing non-VG characters. I care about the
VG characters I like primarily because of the contest, so including
non-VG characters would make me much less excited I think. It'd feel
like a pointless internet popularity poll. Also I don't want to see any
more 4-ways, except maybe in a mini-contest where we have a Battle

Also, even though it's irrelevant, to return to the Bonus Match; Link gained 527 votes in ONE UPDATE. Snake didn't even manage that against Tanner, thought votals were lower down 36,000ish at this point in the match. --- I do love watching blowouts. |

Yeah, Classic Link is a beast. I would have some fun seeing a similar poll with Mario. SMB1-Mario, SMW-Mario, SM64/SMG-Mario (whichever), and FLUDD-Mario... ...I don't think it's so obvious whether 2D or 3D is favored for Mario. I would support a Fictional Character Contest, as long as there was NO
MIXING between video game and other characters. Just Fictional
Characters who did not originate in video games only The only thing
mixing that should ever be done in that circumstance would be a final 1

Here's an bligatory post with a signature stating that FastFalcon beat me. Amusing how I had L-Block making it to the finals, yet others were in just as bad of a situation. Even though L-Block lost early, most people were hurt just as much as me by the many upsets (Crono > Pikachu, Samus > Crono, Link > Crono, and Link > Snake) in L-Block's championship path. This contest was amazing overall! I will say that I am plenty convinced now that upsets give characters momentum frequently, and not just L-Block... I'm sure it gets magnified in a 4-way poll compared to a 2-way. If Snake didn't get first in the semis, I think Cloud would've taken second in the finals. I don't think the Crono leeching is -that- bad... =p Kirby's my favorite story of the contest by a mile, though. --- FastFalcon owned me. Hooray! |

So guys, I sent my petition for a "Contest Suggestions" board
today...and it got declined due to Board 8 not being representative of
the site and so many of Board 8's ideas being too narrow for contests

Main theory is this: - Jill was stronger all along, but with Cloud acting like a vote vacuum in 2007, Ocelot used his more hardcore MGS fanbase to squeeze through. As such, Jill would have beaten Ocelot in a 1v1 or in a 4way with weaker characters. I believe that, but have an additional theory: Ocelot's "boost threshold" is limited due to his design. Face it, as cool as the guy is, he's still a wrinkly old man. If you think about, the only strong guys we have without appealing designs are long-time legends (Mega Man, the Mario gang). It also helps explain why Ocelot's best performance in the Villains Contest (arguably his best performance ever) came against Dr. Wily, when he was sporting his youthful MGS3 picture. --- Yoblazer: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... Old Snake does well though, so...I dunno. I can see that be a growing
trend in new characters, but I'm not convinced it affects Solid Snake
