Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. They have everything. |

But Cloud is here, and Snake's going to finish at least 10000 votes above Sephiroth. I posted this in a different thread, but I thought it would be relevant here: Why Snake > Cloud is mathematically favored The Snake > Cloud upset would not even be considered if not for two factors: 1. Snake is stronger than he is in 2006, and 2. Sephiroth will drain many of Cloud's votes. How much does each of these have an effect? Well, we need to take a look at three matches: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Link_vs_Cloud_vs_Snake_vs_Sephiroth_2006 http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Link_vs_Cloud_vs_Snake_2006 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3302 First, 2006 Link vs Cloud vs Snake. Let us remove Link from the poll: Cloud....64.52% Snake....35.48% Next, 2006 Link vs Cloud vs Snake vs Seph. Removing both Link and Seph: Cloud....58.48% Snake....41.52% Finally, 2008 Cloud vs Snake vs Cube vs Mewtwo. Again removing the other participants: Cloud....56.86% Snake....43.14% Using these statistics, Seph being in the poll makes Snake stronger by 41.52/35.48 = 1.170 And Snake is stronger compared to 2006 by a factor of 1.216. Combined, Snake is stronger by a factor 1.423. By multiplying 1.423 by 35.48, we get: Snake.....50.48% Cloud......49.52% in this match, with Sephiroth SFFing Cloud. Did I make any mistake here? I suspect many of the power hour voters are what we'd call the "smart" ones. Did I make any mistake here? Well, Cloud is SFFing Sephiroth a lot harder today than in the Battle Royale, as FFVII fans are trying to keep in in first ahead of Snake, while they were trying to save Sephiroth from elimination that day.
