Match LIX: Solid Snake vs. Weighted Companion Cube vs. Cloud Strife vs. Mewtwo Last Round: Solid Snake – 37.59% Weighted Companion Cube – 23.88% Mega Man – 23.72% Zero – 14.81% I’ve always hated joke characters, I couldn’t stand L-Block just being in last year’s bracket let alone winning the entire contest. So after rejoicing the fall of the block in the last match I become utterly disgusted at the site of WCC giving Mega Man a close match and actually winning it. I guess we can blame Zero for that; he should have lost to Vivi in the previous round. Cloud Strife – 44.72% Mewtwo – 23.16% Squall Leonhart – 16.39% Sora – 15.74% I guess Sora doesn’t hold better against other Final Fantasy characters than Squall as they got almost the exact same percent between the two as round 2. After a terrible show in round 2 Mewtwo was able to redeem himself and took advantage of a three-way LFF advancing with relative ease. Like Pikachu today Mewtwo’s appearance will just be a formality. Analysis: One joke remains, we have two top tier characters and a relative lower tier character. This is the perfect recipe to take out the cube, though joke characters themselves seem to be ignored compare to last year. Another thing people will be watching is to see how close Snake can get to Cloud in this match seeing that Sephiroth will most likely be a part of the semi-final match next round. With nothing holding Cloud back he should have no problems taking first in this match. In this format Cloud should only be afraid of two things, Link and LFF from Sephiroth. I guess you could add joke characters to the list though you would need Link or Sephiroth in the poll to stop Cloud from winning. Anyway with the characters in this poll I don’t think Cloud will break 40%, but he should easily get into the high thirties depending on how well Snake does. This match is only to give us some insight to see whether or not Snake could beat Cloud next round with Sephiroth in the poll. However with Snake’s great board vote and Cloud’s terrible board vote it should be interesting to see for how long Snake can lead against Cloud before getting crushed by him for the entire day. I’m not sure how close Snake would need to get to Cloud to have a chance next round, but the closer the better. The cube should have been gone last round, damn you Zero. Anyways I don’t see it doing anything in this match even if it was able to keep the same percent that it got last round, which is very unlikely it would still lose to Cloud and Snake. However since like the other jokes it probably won’t and will thus be fighting to stay above 20% in this poll. The internet doesn’t seem that interested in rallying for joke characters. The only thing that can save it is rallying. Mewtwo to a lot people is just there to run his course and come in last. About 3% of the brackets had him advancing. Still if Cube decides that it wants to fall apart Mewtwo could give it a run for its money. This will probably be the best chance at getting a proper reading on Mewtwo so hopefully he makes a good impression on the stats.
