In terms of the Sora match, it's going to end up like this. Cloud will SFF both of them to pieces. Look for the results to end up something like... Cloud - 38% Squall - 23% Sora - 21% Mewtwo - 18% --- Point Total/Rank: 189/248, 76%, T40th My Bracket Says: Sephy > Kratos Prediction: Sephy > Kratos |

I agree... I think the best bet is Sora places, but I wouldn't be too
surprised to get completely smashed into a distant 4th. I think
Squall/Tifa hurt each other the most out of everyone in the poll, which
is why I'm rocking Auron > Sora, but yeah, I wouldn't be surprised
to see any combo of placement, aside from Tifa winning. That would
shock me, hell even her getting 2nd would be pretty surprising to me,
but I won't put it out of the question just because of the immense FF7
love here. --- all hail ec your lord and savior |

DIVISION 1 GRADES AND ANALYSIS Match 5 Zack Fair - People wondered how he would handle getting put into the poll with Link and how he would handle the LFF with Zidane. The answer was clear early on: Zack has a pretty strong fanbase. He was actually avoiding the doubling from Link for a long time and finished with 30% directly on Link, which is great. We'll see what he's really worth this time, but for now, Zack looks great. Grade: A Wario - He actually didn't get destroyed as badly as I expected. Wario finished above 10% here (albeit barely) and almost beat Zidane in the ASV. He didn't finish that far from Zidane overall either, only 1.5% off. Perhaps Brawl has actually done some good things for him. Grade: D+ Link - Apparently, Link got bored with his first round fourpack, but he decided to show up this time. He owned face with the ASV and put up a pretty good showing. And as usual, he excels in the face of SFF. Grade: B+ Zidane Tribal - So much for the dedicated fanbase theory. He nearly gets doubled by Zack and nearly loses the ASV to a heavily SFF'd Wario. But hey, at least he made it this far, right? Grade: D- --- Squall Leonhart's Path to the CBVII Championship Round 2: 1st place, 38857 votes (30.47%) |
LeonhartFour | Posted 11/4/2008 2:36:35 PM | message detail |
Match 6 Marth - The difference between his board vote and Power Hour against the rest of the poll is astounding. He dropped off big time after the first hour and wasn't really able to recover until the ASV. He didn't handle the LFF with Lucario very well. He seemed to handle being on the receiving end of it with DK better than he handled being on the giving end of it. Grade: D Duke Nukem - What more can you say about Duke Nukem other than it's time to give the guy some credit? We thought his first round performances the last couple of years were flukes, but he proved he can handle the pressure when the stakes are raised. The Duke even put that pansy Altair in his place. I'll refrain from calling him a Cinderella because I value my life, but still, you understand. Grade: A+ Altair - He came into this match as a big favorite, and...well, he didn't win. That's disappointing for Altair, obviously, because he basically put himself out of the running to escape this division when he was being given a decent chance before. His ASV is pretty fierce though. If the Duke wasn't so far ahead, Altair might have come back to win. Grade: C Lucario - Not really much to say about Lucario other than he ruined my bracket, along with Shadow and Niko. He was expected to get owned here, and he did. However, we didn't expect him to drag down Marth as much as he did, though I'm not sure if that speaks well of Lucario or poorly of Marth. Grade: D- STAR OF DIVISION 1: Duke Nukem TURD OF DIVISION 1: Marth (I guess. No one did exceptionally poorly in this division.) --- Squall Leonhart's Path to the CBVII Championship Round 2: 1st place, 38857 votes (30.47%) |

DIVISION 2 GRADES AND ANALYSIS Match 5 Luigi - Sure, he lost to Liquid, but that was expected for the most part. What wasn't expected was how big of a hurting he put on Bowser. The fact that he held up so well has given us Weegee fanboys hope that he can hold up against Mario and not get utterly destroyed. Here's hoping... Grade: B Liquid Snake - The guy continues to impress. Even with the worst possible picture he could've gotten, Liquid still won easily. The MGS day vote didn't really hurt him too badly this time either. Now Liquid's out to get the big brother. No, not Solid Snake; Mario. He's got an outside shot depending on what Luigi does. Grade: A Bowser - There's really nothing else to say other than that Bowser looked like crap. He got whooped by Luigi, and he struggled to pull away from Phoenix Wright until morning. He should be thankful that Wrighto's day vote is so bad or he might've been in danger of last place. Pretty pathetic showing from the guy who nearly beat Solid Snake once. He got thoroughly owned by Liquid here and wound up closer to Phoenix than to Luigi. Grade: F Phoenix Wright - This is about as impressive as you can get for a guy who finished in last place. He fought tooth and nail with Bowser all night and still finished within 5000 votes of him. By nearly all accounts, Phoenix surpassed expectations big time. Call this a biased grade if you want to, but... Grade: B+ --- Squall Leonhart's Path to the CBVII Championship Round 2: 1st place, 38857 votes (30.47%) |
LeonhartFour | Posted 11/4/2008 2:51:44 PM | message detail |
Match 6 Mario - Not a good showing (yet again) for the plumber. He trailed Mega Man X all night and needed the day vote to surpass him. The fact that he seemingly wasn't able to SFF Zelda at all is somewhat puzzling to me. X can only be so strong, and for a guy who's supposed to be below Clinkeroth but above the rest of the Noble Nine, this was a pretty poor showing. Samus beat Mega Man despite Yoshi more handily than this. Not sure if that means anything, but... Grade: C- Zelda - Once again, Zelda stood up in the face of SFF from Mr. Nintendo and even managed to avoid last place. I take back everything I said about her getting votes based on her name alone. She actually does seem to have a legitimate fanbase. Grade: B Mega Man X: He almost beat out Mario here, and he's in great position to do so next round, depending on SFF distribution. He led Mario throughout the night and only fell under the power of his day vote. X still kept it respectable though. Grade: A Mudkip - Poor Sadkip. Seriously though, I don't know if many people expected him to do this badly. I know I at least expected him to beat Zelda, but he couldn't even do that. Seems like he's more of a legit Pokemon these days than simply a joke character. Quick: Mudkip vs. Mewtwo, who you got? Grade: F STARS OF THE DIVISION: Liquid Snake and Mega Man X TURD OF THE DIVISION: Bowser --- Squall Leonhart's Path to the CBVII Championship Round 2: 1st place, 38857 votes (30.47%) |

DIVISION 3 GRADES AND ANALYSIS Match 5 Samus Aran - She managed to resist any major leeching from the king of leeching, Ganondorf and managed to break 40% here. She put herself in a good position to still beat out Vincent for first despite the presence of the King of Evil. She did everything she needed to do here. Grade: A Nightmare - Whoa, it's like deja vu for Nightmare here! Look good against crap competition in round 1, look like crap against good competition in round 2. I expected him to give Frog a fight, but that obviously didn't happen. Grade: F Ganondorf - Samus obviously put a hurtin' on Ganondorf, but he still was never in any danger of losing to Frog. Nevertheless, he wasn't able to get a bigger lead on Frog than Frog was able to get on Nightmare (take that, tranny), so...Well, nothing, I just wanted to mention that! Ganon is obviously doomed next round against Vinny with Samus doing this to him, not that he stood much of a chance in the first place. Grade: C Frog: Frog managed to get nearly 20% on a pretty good fourpack, and his day vote wasn't abysmal this year. Sounds like a pretty good showing for the amphibian! He does seem a little stronger this year. Maybe I'm wrong though. Grade: C --- Squall Leonhart's Path to the CBVII Championship Round 2: 1st place, 38857 votes (30.47%) |

Match 6 Vincent Valentine - Only dropped off 5% despite raising the level of competition by a good bit. Vincent did everything he needed to in order to give himself a good shot at Samus next round. We'll see if he pulls through. Grade: B Falco Lombardi - Believe it or not, Falco was favored by the board to take second place here! In hindsight, people realized that he probably did better than he should have due to the competition he was facing in round 1. Due to the sheer amount of fodder in this contest, we seem to be seeing this quite a lot (See Tifa today). No way around it though, Falco bombed. Grade: F Scorpion: Bad picture or not, I doubt it would've given him the edge over Gordon Freeman. He was just too far behind. Most people expected this to happen, but it was still a pretty poor showing. Grade: D- Gordon Freeman - I think Gordon does it on purpose: Take a close second place in round 1 and then blow the first place finisher out of the water in round 2, all the while remaining in second place. First Duke Nukem, now Scorpion. If it hadn't been for Phoenix Wright, we could still technically say he hasn't won anything! Seriously though, great showing from Mr. Freeman. Looks like Half-Life 2 really has made all the difference. Grade: A STAR OF DIVISION 3: ...Gordon Freeman?! Yes, that's right! What is 'LFF'? I see it all over the place, and the only answer I can think of is Lame Fanbase Factor. Leech fanbase factor. Basically two characters have a notable overlap though the fans don't favour one over the other unproportionally. However there are only so many fans the two characters have so against other compeition both characters look weaker because of limited votes. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB7%20BOP.xls Character Battle 2008: Points 171/248 Today's Match: Sephiroth > Kratos |

LFF is just another acronym used to describe SFF. Some of the guys here
will tell you there's a differrence between the two, but there really
isn't. People use LFF to describe a situation in a 4-way that a
non-SFF'd character looks better compared to 2 characters that are
SFFing eachother. --- I want adventure in the great wide somewhere... I want it more than I can tell! - Belle http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3949/beautyandthebeast21024uh9.jpg |

SFF was created to specifically refer to situations where one character
is favored disproportionately. In the past, everyone would even say in
matches where performances match up that there was "no SFF present"
despite the fact that they obviously share a fanbase. In other words,
the mere "sharing a fanbase" aspect of SFF has nothing to do with the
intended meaning --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |
