People said that in 06 against Crono tbh. Auron doesn't do too good in the BSV (the time period we are in right now) and the ASV, but Crono sucks even worse than Auron during those 2 time periods. So it was easy for Sonic to pull a comeback. This time, a comeback is a bit harder in a 4-way format, since votes can be spread out between 4 characters and there's still the chance that Sandbag is holding Sonic down. --- Participate in my Presidential Election Prediction Challenge: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=46163188 |

If Auron beats Sonic much worse than this and Tifa doesn't advance, it
will be interesting to see how Sonic/Auron compare next round anyway.
Auron is smoking Sonic right now (Sandbag isn't nearly enough for this
kind of difference) and Auron resisted a lot of SFF in 2k4 against
Sephiroth pre-KH2. He won't be SFF'd as bad as he was by Cloud last
year, either... ...not calling for that huge of an upset, but without Tifa it might be fun to see how close Auron still gets to Sonic. --- NRT winners: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong Country 2 Remember these games! |

Sandbag is a joke... literally and figuratively.
So much for "boosted Magus" I think, unless it pulls another comeback
during the day, Magus is either terribly bad with the day vote or there
was a good amount of stuffing to propel Sandbag onward. I think it's
some combination of that to be honest. I'm not seeing any sort of great
ASV for Sandbag now, because it is out of contention to move on,
therefore no rallying and/or stuffing will be happening. Or, people just continue to underestimate Subby. I think that's pretty plausible too. --- :> |
charmander6000 | Posted 11/3/2008 6:27:05 AM | message detail |
Still Sandbag broke 40% on Sonic last round and now is barely avoiding
the double, though the same can be said about Auron/Sub-Zero. Does Sonic/Auron always underperform in round 1? --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB7%20BOP.xls Character Battle 2008: Points 167/240 Today's Match: Sonic > Auron |

Sonic and Auron were huge favorites in round 1, so they underperformed.
That falls in line with with all the other Noble Niners and near
elites. As for today, Auron looks like he's going to win by at least
5000. --- Crono's quest to kick L-Block out of this contest: Round 3: Crono vs. L-Block vs. Pikachu vs. Alucard |

As for the comment about the Noble 9... no, just no. You can't "save"
the Noble 9 by losing and then winning because of SFF. If you lose, you
lose. Regardless, if you think the Noble 9 applies to this format then there isn't a Noble 9 anymore anyway. The Noble 9 will never be broken unless this format ends and it goes back to the old way of things. --- :> |

I'm not sure if this is a running gag or not, but the amount of
sucessful cheating is probably kept to a minimum in this contest.
Voters never vote consistently in every update and only change at the
end of every voting period because people are not robots. So seeing
vote spikes and vote drops isn't unusual. One of the main arguments for
changing the updates back to 15 min. back in 2005 was that it minimized
the voting spikes that we see in each 5 min. update. --- Board 8 BOP: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB7%20BOP.xls Character Battle 2008: Points 167/240 Today's Match: Sonic > Auron |

If Sandbag was neutral to Sonic, I would think Sonic would be ~2%
closer to Auron. If Magus had beaten Sandbag, I would say Auron would
have ~2% less than he has now. Combine the two, and... ...Auron would still be beating Sonic, but in more of a 51-49 match that would be interesting to watch. I'm not! Edumacate me! Sandbag is pulling in a % far lower than anyone was expecting. You have to assume he's still getting a good deal of joke votes as well. I seriously doubt a sizable portion of Sonic's fanbase is going "man I like Sonic... but Sandbag is AWESOME!. I never really bought the overlap between the two before this match, and now I especially don't. With the bag bringing in such a low percent of votes. Sonic couldn't even cut Auron with the morning vote, his best time. All he could do is stall him. Auron is going to be winning this match by a fat margin, and it looks like my 5000+ may have undershot his ability. I really can't see Magus being enough of a force to stop Auron from advancing here, especially when we've never even seen significant 2D/3D FF SFF, I'm not willing to say FFX and CT would SFF.
