Sonic's not even going to be cutting Auron with the ASV. He might not cut him all day, if he does it will be limited to the morning vote though.

Honestly I'd put my money on Sub-Zero putting more damage on Sonic than the Sandbag. Mortal Kombat and Sonic have a lot of parallels. Both were released in the 16 bit generation, both have series that still make games today but don't quite recapture the glory days (with some being outright terrible)

Yeah.

And they were both designed to be cooler versions of the ground-breaking game of their genres!

Auron could still lose to Sonic 1v1, AND this match still has nothing to do with sandbag. Sonic sucks gigantic ass in 4-ways, or Sonic team imploded last year and they're just miserably weak compared to their former selves. Either way, Auron winning here isn't dependent at all upon Sandbag. I hope this will be a much more commonly held belief once Auron wins this one in a rout.

It has nothing to do with the "format". Sonic just dropped off the map after Sonic 2006 once again proved that he will never have another good game.

Shame that game didn't come out BEFORE the 2006 character battle. Then we would have seen Vincent/Crono in a 1v1 setting!

Sonic cut!

And we've seen Crono/Vincent 1v1 already: Vincent would have made it closer in 2006, but he'd have just lost again in all likelihood. Seeing Crono/Vincent 1v1 again wasn't really necessary until 2007.

Crono/Vincent would've been a toss-up, honestly. Remember Sonic faced them both in 2006. He beat Vincent by 5000 votes and Crono by 2000 votes. That's 3000 votes difference there. Close enough for random variation or some other factor to make a difference.

And what's gotten into me lately? First I root for Master Chief, and now I'm cheering for Sonic?

Looking at Crono/Sonic and Crono/Auron trends, Sonic will probably be able to keep it relatively close until 3 AM or so, and Auron should do better with the late night, with Sonic recovering with the morning.

But that's not all Auron talking there... I think Ganondorf is a lot weaker than he was in 2005.

It has nothing to do with the "format". Sonic just dropped off the map after Sonic 2006 once again proved that he will never have another good game.

I was going to mention this myself, and a few weeks ago posted on how the "Sonic Team weak in 4-packs" might be a myth. I said how for Chrono Trigger characters last year we said they were declining, but for Sonic Team we said it was a format thing.

And that was long before Chief's craptacular showings, which confirm that Chief's strength last year had nothing or almost nothing to do with the format.

So right now it really does seem more like Sonic Team weakening because of lack of good games and exposure, than much of anything to do with the format.

That he most certainly did. That was hands down the single worst match in contest history, with unparalleled levels of awfulness. Sandbag beating Magus was nothing compared to that. I also believe (perhaps out of fanboyism, but I like to think it's not unreasonable) that Crono did underperform in that match, and would underperform against Sonic again relative to how he would do against SNES and Square characters.

Bowser fell harder based on what?

Based on 2006. Bowser got creamed by Crono, while Ganon at least stayed within 55/45 of Sonic based on Vincent. They seemed to be at least relatively equal in 2005.

I'd take Auron>Ganon 1 vs. 1, and probably would've done so before this match, I think.

And I do think that Sandbag sapping some Sonic support here is quite possible. Auron and Sonic are very close to each other regardless, though that may be just the help Auron needs to push him over the top.

We didn't attribute CT falling to the format in 2k7 - we did it in 2k6, when Crono choked to Sonic. Meanwhile Sonic looked as good as he ever had in contests that year - he didn't go from beating Crono (and Vincent!) significantly to letting SUB-ZERO scare him in terms of natural strength.

If all Auron and Tifa had was KH2, he'd probably 70-30 her just based on their respective performances in that game alone. Whatever gap they had between them in 2k5 has been more than made up for.
