If Squall advances together with Cloud to quarter-final, there is a good chance of Snake taking advantage of Square SFF to beat Cloud, then in the next round, Snake takes advantage of Square SFF again to secure first.

Haha, i must be dreaming.

can't believe it,the pic appears to be so bad it's letting sora take enough of Squall's enormous power to surpass yoshi who is being hindered by Fox.

I mean the pic looks as though Squall wants to ride yoshi while chasing sora before turning furry.

Last round Yoshi got 42.14% on Squall and Fox got 43.76% on Sora

Now Yoshi is getting 42.14% on Squall and Fox is getting 40.24% on Sora

Looks like the double LFF is doing a good job cancelling itself out.

Is everyone forgetting that Squall didn't hurt Sora last year or something? This has nothing to do with Square being stronger. Fox is hurting Yoshi, and Sora is taking advantage of it. That's all.

And Yoshi/Sora/Squall are all on the same tier, with Fox right behind them. All four being really close is not surprising at all. The only thing surprising here is Fox holding up well to SFF, and that can be explained by him being a God in the Smash Bros series.

Vincent
Squall
Ganondorf
Auron
Tifa
Sora
Luigi/Yoshi/Bowser
Ryu
Dante/Leon

All those guys are in the same tier. Not necessarily in the right order, but close enough. Fox would be in the next tier.

I think that section would be broken up into two tiers because of the huge difference between the top to bottom.

Also Ryu (SF) would be higher up than that methinks.

augh what the hell is this yoshi. this is pathetic.

I guess I'll put the blame on Fox resisting SFF and Squall not SFFing Sora like he did in R3 (R2 I still think Aeris hindered him).

So I understand less Nintendo fans are coming to the site, but all these 360/PS3 guys were PS1/PS2 fans or something, resulting in Square's resurgence? well then

I wonder if anyone's going to complain that Squall's scar is the wrong way tomorrow. I just noticed it thanks to you, Zen, but it's really bugging me now.

I noticed it as soon as I saw the picture (Well, I noticed that the pic had been flipped at any rate). Then again, I'm a big Squall fan, so...

Strange that Squall/Sora round 2 is going almost exactly the same as...Squall/Sora round 2 last year. Maybe round 3 was the anomaly last year? Not that it matters at this point. Squall's doomed. All I can hope for is that Sora somehow resists Cloud beating him to a bloody pulp and advancing past Mewtwo.

Argh, can't believe I let the stats topic talk me out of Squall > Sora > Yoshi here! I originally had that (with Mewtwo getting out of the division with Cloud)!

BagFries | Posted 10/30/2008 9:07:07 AM | message detail
Yeah, Squall is not on the same tier as Sora/Yoshi whatever. Just because there aren't a large number of people between them, it doesn't mean they're same tier. Same tier means they actually have a shot against one another 1v1. Squall will mop Sora/Yoshi for years to come.

So Sora/Tifa? I expect everyone would take Tifa... but I'm interested if anyone would side with Sora there. I've always thought much higher of Sora than most of the people in here. I had Squall > Sora in my bracket for a decent amount of time, pussied out for Squall > Yoshi. Well as soon as R1 got underway I realized that was a terrible decision. Anyway, I honestly believe Sora is just as capable of Tifa in these things, yet taking him over her 1v1 just seems so wrong.

Say we had Tifa/Mario and Sora/Mario and Sora got 1.5% more than Tifa did, I'm still not sure I could pull the trigger on Sora > Tifa. What's your guys take on the potential match?

Yesterday's chart:

Time | Hayabusa | Zero | Snake | Vivi
EBV | 12.50% | 22.84% | 43.65% | 21.01% | (0:00-0:05)
PHV | 13.29% | 23.61% | 42.84% | 20.26% | (0:00-1:00)
FNV | 13.83% | 21.13% | 44.17% | 20.88% | (1:00-6:00)
BSV | 13.29% | 20.11% | 44.82% | 21.78% | (6:00-9:00)
DSV | 14.26% | 20.20% | 43.47% | 22.08% | (9:00-14:30)
ASV | 14.18% | 21.89% | 43.20% | 20.73% | (14:30-22:00)
SNV | 13.98% | 22.95% | 42.95% | 20.11% | (22:00-24:00)

Nice board vote, night vote, and early morning vote for Snake. Dropped off a bit from that point, but stayed above 43% on every demographic except the last (and just barely below there)! Zero has a great Power Hour, not so good during the morning and early afternoon hours, but that ASV and second night vote saved him, especially since Vivi dropped off so hard after a great DSV. Poor Hayabusa.

Yesterday's stats:

Solid Snake – 50.00%
Zero – 32.95%
Vivi Orunitia – 32.63%
Ryu Hayabusa – 24.26%

Division 5, Bottom Half

Solid Snake – 50.00%
Zero – 32.95%
Vivi Orunitia – 32.63%
Ryu Hayabusa – 24.26%
Pit – 19.12%
Albert Wesker – 19.02%
King DeDeDe – 17.96%
Sackboy – 15.75%

I was wondering if you guys thought I should make Hayabusa proportional to what he got on Zero in round 1 or if I should leave it as is. It would put him at 34.11% on Snake, for the record.

LeonhartFour | Posted 10/30/2008 9:16:23 AM | message detail
And Squall finally starting to own face with the DSV! He's gonna need it 'cause he's facing three ASV guys.

Actually, looking at it, Yoshi was only doing .7% better on Squall with the ASV than in the DSV. Nevertheless, Sora is a ASV monster, and honestly, Star Fox team has proven to be as well. Fox and Falco both did much better with the ASV. They're both also exceptionally horrible with the night vote, for what it's worth. Fox dropped off nearly 4% from the Power Hour into the night vote (and back up 3% with the ASV) last round, and he dropped off nearly 3% from the Power Hour into the night vote this round (which is a lot considering he's at a much lower percentage).

Falco went from 17% during the Power Hour to 14% with the night vote to 16.77% with the ASV in the second round here, and 28% to 24.5% from the Power Hour to the night vote, and then up to nearly 29% during the day at one point. Star Fox has some definite trends, heh.

I meant to touch on it when you asked last time, but I don't think you can fairly NOT adjust Hayabusa. He went from beating Zero by ~1,000 votes when they shared ~72% of the poll to losing to Zero by ~10,000 votes when they shared ~35% of the poll. We saw Hayabusa shock us last year when he lost to Riku while Solid was in the match, and we saw Hayabusa do it again by losing to Zero/Vivi very badly with Solid in the match.

If Solid was replaced by Mega Man yesterday, I would expect Zero to be adjusted to just under Hayabusa. If Solid was replaced by Sonic yesterday, I would expect Hayabusa to beat Zero in a similar fashion compared to the last round. Just saying, we have the numbers to adjust it easily this time and it's completely reasonable. We couldn't last year because Roxas made things weird to compare Riku to Hayabusa before he was stuck with Solid, but we can this year.

Also, I would have to take Tifa > Sora. Aeris doubled Sora before KH1, and -- while we've seen KH2 help Sora a lot one-on-one and Sora beat Aeris when Squall was also in the mix -- I don't think his other games have gotten him enough pull to stand to FF's leading lady one-on-one yet. I do think it's a matter of time if nothing else is done with her in the future, but right now? I'll still take Tifa, though not necessarily involving SFF.

Squall/Vincent would be good right now.

I think that four-pack is interesting since it's pitting four of Square's biggest stars -- especially recent ones -- yet they all come from different games. On top of that, they all play some kind of role in the KH-series. The one with the biggest role (outside of Sora) is Squall, and he's arguably the strongest of the three FF-characters. Squall also comes from the weakest of the three big 3D-FF games, too, though that's not shown to be a factor yet. I wonder if a four-pack like this would make that become a factor or if Squall would succeed despite that. Likewise, Tifa is the one with the smallest connection to the KH-series (to my understanding, at least), yet comes from the biggest of the FF-games. I wonder how how that may help her. Auron's a healthy mix between the two so he has to stay in contention. Sora is the most independent of them since he leads his own series, even if it's largely a spin-off of FF.

The SFF in that would be very very fascinating.
