Compare him to Nero all you want, but you aren't going to see Vivi/Nero. We saw Tidus face Vivi last year, so I would think that would be more appropriate.

Comparing a proven competitior like Vivi to Nero is pretty hilarious. If anything he's the safe choice tomorrow. I've never been convinced that Ryu H is anything more than a midcarder and if Zero has dropped all the way to being weaker than him I feel the balls in Vivi's court.

Vivi is the safe choice? I'd say Zero is the safe choice cuz he's proven much stronger then Vivi in the past, and Ryu is kinda a wildcard here. vivi would need to be better then he was in round 1 to beat the Zero we know of, it just depends how far Zero really dropped

I would have called Vivi the slight favorite a few hours ago. Now (after the pic), I feel it's a toss-up between Zero and Vivi. I disagree with the people who say Vivi looks bad; he looks fine to me. It's not about Vivi, but about Snake and Zero. Zero looks good, Snake does not, and the worse Snake does, the better Zero's chances are.

Vivi looks like Vivi. He's still got BMF~ going for him an all that. He's not "badass" here, but when you look at this competition, that's probably a good thing.

I personally would consider all three of them pretty close, with Zero probably being the most independent but Vivi probably being the strongest. I've not bothered to check how true this is, but it feels right.

4ways after 5 years of no game contests would be the most unpredictable thing ever

Other than a one-on-one Games Contest, which would also feature good, close matches. You can name the "unpredictable" matches that turned out good in this contest on one hand, which is no different from a one-on-one contest.

"I just want to thank WCC voters for spitting on GlaDOS and everyone who appreciated Portal for reasons that go beyond "lol cake"."

Hey, I have been voting for all the Orange Box cast in the contest. WCC joke has more exposure on the GameFAQs than actual number of people that played the game here. But does that rule out that a significant number of GLADOS's votes aren't going to WCC? No.

BT, he's still more than Tidus according to last year, and Vivi was beaten worse by Solid last round than Tidus by Mega Man this round (despite this NN-underperforming-in-R1 theory). Care to address that?

Match XLII: Ryu Hayabusa vs. Zero vs. Solid Snake vs. Vivi Ornitier

Last Round:

Ryu Hayabusa – 36.53%
Zero – 35.44%
Pit – 14.62%
King Dedede – 13.41%

With the release of several Ninja Gaiden games, most notably Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox360 Hayabusa was able to turn a 63/37 vote loss in 2005 to a 51/49 vote win that we saw last round. I guess beating Riku and Roxas combine was no fluke, but why did he lose to Riku in the following round? Between the Brawl duos it looks like Dedede’s Kirby supporters don’t out number Pit’s Brawl appeal.

Solid Snake – 51.60%
Vivi Ornitier – 25.96%
Albert Wesker – 12.51%
Sackboy – 9.93%

I guess never appearing in a game can still net you 10% of the vote. Given the competition it was no surprise that Snake destroyed his opponents and easily broke 50%. Vivi also took advantage of the setting to gain an impressive second place. However with an increasing amount of over performances of second placed characters against a sure winner Vivi’s dream of potential upset could be shattered.

Analysis:

This was supposed to be a simple match where Snake and Zero advanced and everybody is happy. Well all that was thrown out the window when Hayabusa defeated Zero last round. I guess with all of his releases he’s becoming a serious player in the contest. Before round 2 Vivi’s performance against Snake added more confusion, but with the performances of many characters in a similar position in round 2 he only now has an outside chance.

What is still a sure thing is that Snake shouldn’t have any problems taking first. Ignoring Ocelot, who still did better than what the stats suggested against Kratos Metal Gear characters have impressed across the board. Due to the fact that Snake is already one of the most popular characters in the contest I’m not expecting a huge increase in strength like the others, but none of his opponents in this match shall be challenging his strength anyways.

Characters like Nightmare, Falco and Nero have underperformed after doing much better against a sure winner in the previous round. It looks like Vivi may be heading down the same road. Even then as impressive as his performance was Zero and Hayabusa would have performed much better against Snake. The Black Mage appeal may work well against unknowns, but none of his opponents are relatively unknown.

It was expected that Hayabusa to get a boost of strength due to Ninja Gaiden II, but a lot of the board was caught off-guard when they saw Hayabusa beating Zero. Even though Hayabusa won his match last round I’m still calling him the underdog going into this match. Last year Hayabusa defeated Riku and Roxas combine in the first round yet in round 2 Riku was able to squeeze past him. With Snake being in both matches there is reason why Ryu shouldn’t be confident going into the match. If Snake had any effect last year he will probably have the same this year and with Zero barely losing he can easily turn it into a win. Some could argue that Nightmare may have Fighting LFF Hayabusa, but his percent in that match being so low paired with Riku not getting every single Roxas vote and that Hayabusa is a cameo character appearing in a different fighting game than Nightmare I’d suspect that Snake would have the larger affect.
charmander6000 | Posted 10/28/2008 7:06:36 PM | message detail
With that being said I’m betting on Zero taking first despite losing to Hayabusa last round. Zero only lost by 1370 votes and if Snake had any effect on Hayabusa it wouldn’t be that hard to turn that vote deficit around. Also Zero has to hope for is that he isn’t affected by some other random factor.

Snake should easily take first and I’m going to go with the consensus (or upset depending on how you see it) and my bracket and take Zero to come in second. Maybe I’m wrong about Snake affecting Hayabusa, but there’s only one way to find out.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Solid Snake > Zero

charmander6000’s Prediction: Solid Snake – 35.36%, Zero – 25.63%, Ryu Hayabusa – 23.73%, Vivi – 15.28%

Myself would love to see Vivi advance but my bracket says Zero. My best case scenario has Snake>Zero> Vivi by a very slim margin or Vivi at least takeing the lead for a while. I just want the mage to have a good non-advancing showing.

Also that game tournament needs some Advance Wars loving
