I thought it was well accepted by now that the line should be Pac-Man. I don't care how susceptible he is to SFF - he's the perfect example of "if you lose to him, you're fodder, if you win you're not" we've got.

Pac hardly fluctuates. He's the power of universal name recognition combined with universal apathy. Was Ocelot below the line in 2k5? Yes - very barely, but yes.

And Kefka likely wouldn't beat Pac-Man nowadays - he barely did it back in 2k3, year of Square. He's just getting older and weaker by the year, easily beaten now by new chumps like Marcus Fenix and Niko Bellic.

Well, Link and Cloud both being among my top 5 favorite VG characters may have something to do with it. Really though, the contest feels much more authentic and fair if they are included. While I'd be thrilled about CTDS boosting Crono over Mario next year, I'd be far far more thrilled if he beat Sephiroth- or Cloud, or Link. Sure, the probability of Crono actually beating those characters is almost zero, but that just makes it all the more awesome if he pulls it off. And if no character pulls off an upset of Clinkeroth, we get to see Link vs. Cloud not by itself but with several rounds of buildup as it deserves.

When your stiffest competition is Baltheir and Ada Wong, yeah, kinda. Though she's still above the fodder line, just not by much.

Round 1

1) Link
16) Alucard

Nothing to see here.

8) Gordon Freeman
9) Zero

I don't think Zero has fallen that much, though it could be interesting.

5) Leon Kennedy
12) Raiden

I may change my mind by the end of the round.

4) Sora
13) Sub-Zero

No love for Subby.

6) Shadow the Hedgehog
11) Ken Masters

Sonic characters do better in this format while fighting characters do worse.

3) Auron
14) Meta Knight

MK needs to catch a break.

7) Luigi
10) Big Boss

Hopefully he won't get naked snake.

2) Sonic the Hedgehog
15) Duke Nukem

After doing so well this year this is his reward?

1) Sephiroth
16) Pac-Man

At least he won't get SFF.

8) Ganondorf
9) Bowser

This will look eerily similar to Link/Mario

5) Dante
12) Cid Highwind

Cid comes close though.

4) Master Chief
13) Jill Valentine

MC goes 50/50 before destroying her with the ASV.

6) Vincent Valentine
11) Liquid Snake

...

3) Squall Leonhart
14) Phoenix Wright

...

7) Charizard
10) Aeris Gainsborough

No way Charizard is that strong, wasted potential IMO.

2) Crono
15) Chun-Li

...

1) Mario
16) CATS

Another noble 9 kills CATS

8) Kain Highwind
9) Arthas Menethil

Arthas rally FTW

5) L-Block
12) Zelda

L-Block is wasted try putting him against a high mid-carder.

4) Tifa Lockheart
13) Donkey Kong

boobs

6) Tidus
11) Riku

Tidus chokes again.

3) Samus Aran
14) Kefka

Ouch.

7) Mewtwo
10) Yoshi

Mewtwo isn't that strong though it will be interesting to see if he can avoid SFF

2) Solid Snake
15) Frog

Not so close now Frog.

1) Cloud
16) Scorpion

...

8) Pikachu
9) Knuckles

Sonic characters do better in this format.

5) Kratos
12) Fox McCloud

I'm assuming GoW Kratos.

4) Kirby
13) Magus

...

6) Ryu
11) Zack

Ryu may be a little too strong for Zack

3) Chris Redfield
14) Ryu Hayabusa

Depends on how well RE5 does, maybe try a weaker character.

7) Vivi
10) Yuna

BMF ftw?

2)Mega Man
15) Rikku

...

There's really not much "build up" with this. Doesn't matter who outdoes the other, the result one-on-one isn't going to be in doubt.

Round 2

1) Link
9) Zero

...

5) Leon Kennedy
4) Sora

I don't think RE5 will boost Leon to Sora

6) Shadow the Hedgehog
3) Auron

...

7) Luigi
2) Sonic the Hedgehog

We don't need to see this again.

1) Sephiroth
8) Ganondorf

...

5) Dante
4) Master Chief

MC chokes

6) Vincent Valentine
3) Squall Leonhart

Vincent proves that he's the 10th strongest character

10) Aeris Gainsborough
2) Crono

Good to see if he's capable to beat Vincent

1) Mario
9) Arthas Menethil

Rallying will backfire like it did for SMB vs WC

12) Zelda
4) Tifa Lockheart

I see no reason for Tifa to lose.

11) Riku
3) Samus Aran

...

10) Yoshi
2) Solid Snake

We don't need to see this rematch

1) Cloud
9) Knuckles

...

5) Kratos
4) Kirby

Hopefully GoW doesn't die down by next year

6) Ryu
14) Ryu Hayabusa

Confusing for the voters

7) Vivi
2)Mega Man

Round 3

1) Link
4) Sora

3) Auron
2) Sonic the Hedgehog

Only interesting if Auron beats Sonic this round, if not we don't need this rematch.

1) Sephiroth
5) Dante

For some reason I've always wanted to see this match even if the winner is obvious

6) Vincent Valentine
2) Crono

CTDS saves the day.

1) Mario
4) Tifa Lockheart

...

3) Samus Aran
2) Solid Snake

I don't know how Samus defeated Snake in 2006, but MGS4 will make sure he wins.

1) Cloud
5) Kratos

...

6) Ryu
2)Mega Man

I guess picking Ryu to get here is an upset so I don't mind the rematch.

Round 4

1) Link
2) Sonic the Hedgehog

1) Sephiroth
2) Crono

1) Mario
2) Solid Snake

1) Cloud
2)Mega Man

With Clinkeroth in the bracket round 4 is always boring. I still think Mario has what it takes to stop Snake.

Round 5

1) Link
1) Sephiroth

Sephiroth tries to get as close as he can to give Cloud hopefuls a bone

1) Mario
1) Cloud

Cloud finally gets revenge from his 2002 loss.

Round 6

1) Link
1) Cloud

Is there any other way?

Its not impossible, but not very effective. Peopel can't antivote one specific character, the antivotes are spread out, making it alot less effective.

Pikachu wouldn't be as strong one-on-one, but using Fox/Pikachu from 2003 to show that isn't a good idea.

That match and PArappa are our only real examples since he wasn't in the contest from 2004-2006
