Ratchet is getting about the same percent as he got against Ganondorf/Vergil/Thrall. Did his two PS3 game help him or despite Tifa holding well against Sephiroth LFF will be the cause of her demise next round?

Ratchet is doing good because of the SFF between Tifa and Sephy.

Even if it isn't lopsided, SFF still makes the other characters look better.

Ratchet's probably just getting a static percentage of votes. It's just 15% anyway. Not like it's a difficult number to achieve for low fodder.

Not really - aside from him having just passed the 62% threshold, you're forgetting Tifa had KH2 since the last time we had an accurate read on her.

No, she had it in 2006.

Question: Would anyone like me to add the board vote (the first 5 minutes) to my daily charts? I think it'd be neat to see.

Division 1 Grades and Review

Match 1

Cecil Harvey - After seeing Rydia and Kain perform, Cecil's performance keeps looking worse and worse. It's questionable whether or not Zack even LFF'd him at all at this point. He could probably do better if he had a recognizable pic, but he doesn't.

Grade: D

Jade Curtiss - No comment necessary.

Grade: F-

Wario - He was the favorite to win this match, but he wasn't even close. He couldn't even lead at the freeze, which is a sure sign of doom for a Nintendo character (unless you're Sandbag, apparently). He did well enough to avoid worrying about Cecil, but Wario was expected to do better.

Grade: C

Zack Fair - There was a lot of hype and questions about this guy before the contest, but I'd say he lived up to the hype. He destroyed this fourpack and looked good all day, firmly establishing himself as one of the favorites to escape this division with Link. I don't know how he realistically could've done any better.

Grade: A+

Match 2

Link: I hate to be critical of a guy who scored 60%, but it was about as underwhelming as it could be. No huge vote swings, and he was expected to do a bit better than this. Of course, the fact that almost the entire Noble Nine has disappointed up to this point makes Link's performance not look quite so bad.

Grade: B-

Luke fon Fabre - At least he didn't do as badly as Jade.

Grade: F

Shadow the Hedgehog - A lot of guys (including me) thought Shadow had a great shot of making it out of this division. He wasn't even in contention, and he ended up looking even more pathetic than he did last year, which I didn't even think was possible.

Grade: F

Zidane Tribal - Not many people gave Zidane a realistic chance, but he came out and surprised a lot of people, doing about as well here as he did on his fourpack last year. He's understandably an underdog going into his next match, but he was an underdog here. The day vote drop off is a point of concern, especially against FFVII's day vote next round.

Match 3

Duke Nukem - In a highly debatable fourpack, Duke Nukem was seemingly forgotten. Apparently, the Duke doesn't take to being ignored very well. He gave Marth a great fight throughout the night, even taking the lead for a little while, and he beat down Kefka and Niko pretty badly. He's in great position to advance to the third round.

Grade: A-

Kefka - What can you say about Kefka? We can make a lot of excuses for the guy (People will blame the pic for a long time), but he just flat out stunk it up here...again. He completely died come sunrise...again, and let Niko push him down to fourth place. People thought Kefka had a good chance of getting through two matches. He couldn't even avoid fourth place in one of them.

Grade: F

Marth - Most people expected Marth to advance, and he's been one of the few Nintendo characters who has looked good (relative to expectations). He had a great day vote here, getting himself some good distance from Duke after having a tough fight with him overnight. He's in good position to advance again if he can avoid LFF.

Grade: A

Niko Bellic - People were naturally wary of the guy due to GTA's recent history. Looks like their doubts were well founded. A lot of blown potential here, but he really didn't look that bad overall. At least it didn't feel like he bombed as hard as Kefka, and he avoided last place.

Match 4

Altair - He made this fourpack look like an absolute joke and looked good doing it. He had a monstrous day vote, which is an accomplishment against a Pokemon and another Nintendo character in Isaac. At this point, he has to be considered the favorite for first next round and a serious contender to escape this train wreck of a division.

Grade: A+

Guybrush Threepwood - Not too much you can say about uber-fodderific guys like him, but he had an impressive few hours where he nearly beat out Isaac and Lucario outright. That deserves a little bit of credit, I guess.

Grade: F+

Isaac - He wasn't quite able to take advantage of Lucario's atomic bomb, but he wasn't expected to be in this match at all. He did really well, considering his expectations.

Grade: C+

Lucario - One of the biggest bombs of the contest so far. This guy was the favorite to beat Altair, and he got doubled by him, all the while struggling with Isaac. This was the first sign that BRAWLFEAR wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It wouldn't be the last. The only reason he doesn't get a failing grade is because at least he didn't lose to Isaac.

Grade: D-

STARS OF DIVISION 1: Zack Fair and Altair (tie)

I dunno about that, I don't think Prince Marth and the Duke are paragons of strength and they beat Kefka and Niko quite handily. That was a pretty embarrassing match for the latter two.

Yeah, I thought about giving Niko a C because he really didn't do THAT badly. Maybe I'm a little hard on him because I had him advancing twice.

I think Kefka deserves a D at best though. I just can't get over how pathetic that day vote is, and he bombed hard relative to expectations yet again.

Match XXXII: Heavy vs. Jill Valentine vs. Kratos vs. Revolver Ocelot

Information:

Name: Heavy
Game/Series From: Team Fortress series
2007 Results: Did not enter

The second character from the Team Fortress series and whose game was part of the Orange Box collection, what will he do in this match? I’m not too sure on the difference in popularity between Heavy and Spy, but being an ensemble cast I don’t see them being that much different in strength.

Name: Jill Valentine
Game/Series From: Resident Evil series
2007 Results: 3rd in round 1

While this contest has many rematches this is the only match where two characters from the first round of last year’s contest meet again in the first round. Even though that match was thought to be close Jill was the overwhelming favourite to beat Ocelot so of course Ocelot won that match. This time Ocelot is the overwhelming favourite, but very few are expecting the match to be close.

Name: Kratos
Game/Series From: God of War series
2007 Results: 1st in round 1, 1st in round 2, 3rd in round 3

Before last year Kratos was one of those winless characters who if put in the right position could actually do something. Well last year he proved it by easily defeating LFF Nintendo characters and Riku and this year he has a newly released PSP game to work with.

Name: Revolver Ocelot
Game/Series From: Metal Gear series
2007 Results: 2nd in round 1, 3rd in round 2

The final Metal Gear character makes his appearance in the contest and with Liquid Snake, Big Boss and Raiden getting a nice boost from MGS4 it only makes sense that the biggest star of the game besides Solid Snake to get a good one.

Analysis:

Before the round started it was generally agreed that the final match will be boring, with the new games released each character would be out of the league of the others, but with the performances done by Metal Gear characters the final match of the round has a good chance of being interesting.

Heavy however has no chance to do anything in this match. Spy was blown away by probably a slightly weaker four-pack and while I don’t know the favourite rankings of Team Fortress characters I’m not expecting Heavy to get a much different percent than what Spy got.

Jill got an unlucky draw where not only does she have to verse a character that previously beat her, but the same character has gotten a huge boost by a newly released game. Based on the performances of Chris and Leon Jill may get a slight boost because of the voter shift and the soon to be released Resident Evil 5 (I know she’s not in it, but neither is Leon). It won’t be enough to have her actually place, but she won’t end up looking bad.

Before the round began Kratos was the overwhelming favourite though as the round progressed this match has slowly become very debateable. First Kratos is going to have to deal with a much more boosted Ocelot than we thought and by looking at the performances by Donkey Kong, Riku and to a lesser extent Kirby there may be a chance that Kratos is overrated. Kratos does have a PSP game to work with, but that can only help you so much.
charmander6000 | Posted 10/18/2008 8:17:12 PM | message detail
Ocelot’s chances throughout the round have increased so much that some people are beginning to tip the scale and say he’s the favourite. Ocelot has the most to gain from MGS4 and with the performances of other Metal Gear characters it is possible that he’s made the jump from low mid carder to high mid carder. Even if he doesn’t win he at least has second place as a lock.

Kratos has his work cut out for him and with Tifa showing some life his dreams of going to round 3 again could be cut short. Due to the performances of other Metal Gear characters I think people are overrating Ocelot though that doesn’t mean I don’t think he will win. Just don’t expect Ocelot to crush Kratos in any way shape or form.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Kratos > Ocelot

charmander6000’s Prediction: Kratos – 32.23%, Ocelot – 30.44%, Jill – 24.27%, Heavy – 13.06%

DIVISION 2 GRADES AND REVIEW

Match 1

Liquid Snake - Is this the guy who barely beat Alucard in round one and got smoked by him in round 2? Some people say he met expectations, but he really impressed me. Nintendo not lookin' quite so good might dilute this performance a bit because he could have looked so good due to a Brawl deboost (or whatever excuse you want to use), but he ended up much closer to Luigi than he did to Roxas, and he kept up with him very well overnight. He's in a great position to take advantage of the LFF split next round. He did just what he needed to do.

Grade: A

Luigi - Really, he's one of the few Nintendo characters who hasn't disappointed. He didn't impress either though. He just met expectations. Didn't have the great day vote he's accustomed to either. Basically, he did what he needed to do to set himself up for an epic showdown with Bowser in round 2. He certainly didn't do anything to warrant a favorite status there.

Grade: B

Roxas - Liquid smoked him hard, and he ended up closer to Sho than he did to the twin snake. Not a good performance by Roxas, but the KH ASV helped him save a little bit of face. Pretty bleh performance for him here.

Grade: C-

Sho Minamimoto: Grades are garbage. *crunch*

Match 2

Bowser - If you had asked me before sunrise, I'd have given Bowser a D. He looked flatout pathetic overnight, barely getting 40% on a terrible fourpack. He had an awesome day vote performance (against admittedly bad day vote characters except for Geno) to save face and make that match with Luigi a tossup.

Grade: B

Deckard Cain - Wasn't expecting too much out of this guy. He gave Geno a good fight for a while. Can't be too hard on him.

Grade: D

Geno - Deckard gave him a good fight, which I wasn't expecting to happen. He wasn't ever really in the match, and he got beaten pretty soundly by Phoenix Wright. Might be able to blame some of that on Bowser being there though.

Grade: D

Phoenix Wright - Phoenix Wright did about as well as you could've expected from him. He still has a great night vote and a bad day vote. He finished with about the same percentage as he got in the first round last year, and he beat third and fourth place soundly.

Grade: B-

Match 3

Fei Fong Wong - No one was expecting much out of the guy, but he put a performance on par with KOS-MOS. This is probably going to be his only shot, and with the competition he had, he did well.

Grade: C-

Knuckles the Echidna - Couldn't take advantage of the Nintendo LFF opportunity between Mario and Zelda. Sonic Team disappoints yet again, but at this point, no one is surprised.

Grade: D-

Mario - The second member of the Noble Nine disappoints. Mario wasn't able to clobber Zelda with SFF, unusual for someone who's usually so good with it (S'up Samus). He barely broke 40% here, but for what it's worth, this was a pretty strong fourpack.

Grade: C

Zelda - Didn't have to sweat a bit against Knuckles, even with Mario there. As a matter of fact, Zelda seemed to resist SFF quite well. Not much else to say about it. She did about as good as you could've expected.

Match 4

Lloyd Irving - Yeah, most people thought Lloyd would lose to Mudkip, but he got owned by him. I don't know why, but I honestly thought he'd do better. Oh well, at least he doubled Nook, which was more than Zelos could say.

Grade: D

Mudkip - Mudkip seems to have legit trends this year, and he was about as close to X as he was to Lloyd. He set himself up to take advantage of a potential triple LFF split next round, and who knows what could happen from there?

Grade: B+

Tom Nook - For some reason, I didn't think Nook would get single digits, even though he's pretty bad fodder. I guess that performance last year was a bit deceptive due to how weak it really was.

Grade: F

Mega Man X - One of the most anticipated debuts of the contest, and...Well, X did pretty good, I guess. 44.50% is good for the fourpack, but I think he needed to put some more distance between him and Mudkip to really make me feel good about him escaping this division later on.

Grade: B+

STAR OF DIVISION 2 - Liquid Snake

TURD OF DIVISION 2 - Knuckles the Echidna (I guess, no one really bombed here)

DIVISION 3 GRADES AND REVIEW

Match 1

Crash Bandicoot - Eh, what were you expecting him to do? This was a boring, boring match, and it's hard to even talk about it. Crash didn't do horribly, but he didn't do that well either.

Grade: C-

Nightmare - Nightmare basically matched his percentage from round 1 last year against Snake here against Samus in a tougher fourpack. Perhaps some Soul Calibur IV power at work. Who knows? He did what he was expected to do.

Grade: B

Raz - Again, what were you expecting him to do? Everyone knew Raz was going to do badly, and do badly he did. Not much else to say.

Grade: F

Samus Aran - The third Noble Niner fails to impress. Samus barely did better than her first round fourpack from last year, and it's questionable whether or not this one was any tougher. Samus certainly didn't bomb, but it wasn't impressive by any stretch of the imagination either.

Kratos has one of the worst board votes around, so expect Ocelot to be ahead here. Ocelot should probably do really well at first, scaring the hell out of people.

board vote is probably Ocelot > Heavy > Jill > Kratos as far as trends go.
