Match XXXI: Nana vs. Ratchet vs. Sephiroth vs. Tifa Lockheart Information: Name: Nana Game/Series From: Ice Climbers 2007 Results: Did not enter This is the final Smash character that we haven’t seen, sort of. The actual entry is Ice Climbers which includes Popo though a board rally was able to bring in Nana. Just looking at this match and being a huge fan of the Ice Climbers I would have gone with the upset if the entry included both Popo and Nana. Name: Ratchet Game/Series From: Ratchet and Clank series 2007 Results: 4th in round 1 This is one of the weakest characters that have been able to make it to multiple contests. With two newly released games on the PS3 Ratchet may be able to redeem himself and maybe for the first time ever Ratchet may be able to defeat someone. Name: Sephiroth Game/Series From: Final Fantasy VII 2007 Results: 1st in round 1, 1st in round 2, 1st in round 3, 2nd in round 4, 4th in round 5 Sephiroth is one of the strongest characters of the bracket and even though it was expected of him to lose in round 5 to Link and Cloud and while we knew he was being SFF it was unexpected to see him lose to Samus who in the Battle Royal was crushed by SFF. Still he shouldn’t have much problems advancing here. Name: Tifa Lockheart Game/Series From: Final Fantasy VII 2007 Results: Did not enter In a contest where all the major players were in the bracket and major snubs were kept to a minimum Tifa was left out in the cold. Really after her the only other characters that anyone noticed that was missing and had any strength were Chun Li and Ken Masters. Now her first match is against the worst draw she can imagine with the exception of Cloud. Analysis: There’s nothing special about this match though when a heavily SFF character is given the green light to go to the next round that says a lot to the quality of strength that her other opponents have. Even glancing at the Guru Contest shows that very few people believe in Tifa opponents’ ability to have strength. Speaking of strength Sephiroth will have no problem clinching first in this match. In a competition of who can get the first percent between Link, Cloud and Sephiroth I think Sephiroth has that won for this round. Ratchet and Nana are weaker than the other bottom two characters in Link and Cloud’s match so all he needs is to SFF Tifa hard enough while hoping that she doesn’t leech much from him. Tifa is going to be hit with a lot of SFF from Sephiroth though despite that she should have no problem waltzing through this match without trouble. The only thing that might be interesting to watch is to see whether or not she can dodge enough of that SFF to let her through to next round. The real match begins with the two fodder characters. Ratchet has had two new games released since the last contest and with the PS3 making a rebound on GameFAQs it should give him a mild boost and while it won’t be enough to pose a threat to Tifa it could be the only thing saving him from having another embarrassing performance. |

| If the entry was Ice Climbers I would have totally
have gone with the upset, unlike Marth Ice Climbers is not a fan
favourite in Melee though they were always fun to use until the CPU Ice
Climber died, which doesn’t hurt me, but to some people it’s a
discouragement from playing Ice Climbers. This match is about Nana and
outside of this board she is a joke that no one else gets and the only
thing she has going for her is the Ice Climber look and being up three
Playstation characters that may be enough to get enough votes to defeat
Ratchet. Like Link and Cloud Sephiroth should have no problem pushing for 60% and in my opinion Sephiroth is looking to be on pace to have the highest percent of the contest, it all depends of Tifa’s performance.
