I argued this very same thing before Ike/Arthas, for reasons why
Brawl newcomers were performing like ****. Most people said I was

Like I said to the last 10 people who challenged me to an account
bet, talk to me when you have a main account that is more than 2 years
old and has a decent amount of karma. I'd take the bet if it was Heroic

Speaking of that, the "brawl de-boost" only works with Brawl newcomers
not performing up to par. It explains Lucario, Wario, Meta-Knight,
Diddy Kong, Olimar, etc. It doesn't explain why the stronger Nintendo

Meta-Knight did good. And Wii **** and all the other Wii shovelware explains the general Nintendo drop. What do we have to look forward to from the stronger Nintendo characters? I REPEAT SO PEOPLE NOTICE: I reckon everyone falls with the night vote and by the time the kiddies wake up, all 4 characters are splitting about 92% of the total votes cast. No-one knows what the **** happened to the other 8% except general suckitude by everyone. Now with Sonic still declining it might hit 90.5% What do you guys think? --- It could be as high as 94% |

But a lot of people off this board don't like Brawl! Or, to put it
this way: nearly 100% of the Brawl fanbase likes Melee. Much less than
100% of the Melee fanbase likes Brawl. Therefore Brawl cannot boost
anyone except through hype/anticipation, because its fans were already
Melee fans. Some Melee fans that were previously excited about Brawl
now dislike it. Hence the Brawl De-Boost. That and Nintendo shifting
its focus towards casuals..... That's all well and good, except that it discounts the small, but possibly significant, subset of people that bought Brawl but didn't have Melee. World sales for Melee are way ahead of Brawl based off the wikepedia totals (obviously not the best source), but still, Brawl has sold a huge amount. Granted I don't pay attention here as much as I once did, but what really serious results have their been to justify the Brawl deboost? Mario. He's a month away from two years, and -- account name or no -- he's Heroic Mario. You don't tell him his main-account-bets aren't good enough for you. WIthout Brawl, Snake gets beat 55-45 by Mega Man. With MGS4 Snake probably closes the distance somewhat, but Mega Man just got Mega Man 9, his biggest game in 15 years. I would have taken the upset but I had Zero in that match. If Hayabusa is there, Snake is toast. Give me that account bet. If Solid Snake > Mega Man in their first match-up this year, you close your account. If Mega Man > Solid Snake in thier first match-up this year, I'll close this one. --- NRT winners: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong Country 2 Remember these games! |

Sonic is clearly a step below MM/Crono in this format... didn't need
this match to tell us that. Still you can't really say how much Sandbag
is hurting him here. Auron's going to kick his ass so hard and it's

Granted I don't pay attention here as much as I once did, but what
really serious results have their been to justify the Brawl deboost? I
mean, Sandbag is hanging even here with Magus and Sonic...I don't see

The whole Master Chief/Sonic/Dante/Leon thing is just nuts right now. And so much of it hinges on whether Dante and Leon really do kill each other, or whether it was just them facing a super-nostalgia boosted Pikachu. It might have been lots of both, in which case Dante pretty much can't win against Chief. But it could be that Dante/Leon overlap is not nearly as big as it appears.
