Kain is recognizable in a picture and should be about as strong as

Match XXVI: Kain Highwind vs. Master Chief vs. Professor Layton vs. Raiden Information: Name: Kain Highwind Game/Series From: Final Fantasy IV 2007 Results: Did not enter With the release of Final Fantasy IV DS three characters from that game made it to the contest, Kain is the second of those characters. Kain is the badass of the group kind of like Auron; however Cecil is no Tidus when it comes to likability. Of course looking at Cecil’s match this doesn’t make Kain look any stronger. Name: Master Chief Game/Series From: Halo series 2007 Results: 1st in round 1, 1st in round 2, 1st in round 3, 1st in round 4, 3rd in round 5 If anyone benefitted from the format change it would be Master Chief. With Halo 3 being released mid-contest Master Chief destroyed his competition and looked like a potential noble 9 breaker. Sadly in round 5 where he was suppose to meet Sonic L-Block was kicking ass and taking names and while Master Chief was able to impress he wasn’t able to defeat Snake. This year Master Chief is on course to a round 4 meet up against Sonic as long as everything goes as plan. Name: Professor Layton Game/Series From: Professor Layton series 2007 Results: Did not enter The guy has two games released and another one coming out next month, in Japan. In North America only his first game has been released. Professor Layton is a puzzle solving game and while in Japan it’s very popular (a movie has been announced) in North America Professor Layton hasn’t been able to make any kind of splash. Name: Raiden Game/Series From: Metal Gear Solid 2 & 4 2007 Results: 2nd in round 1, 3rd in round 2 Being missing in action ever since his match against Solid Snake in 2003 there were high hopes for Raiden to perform well in last year’s contest plus the MGS4 hype was reaching a high. In his first match Raiden almost loses to Sam Fisher though after seeing his round 2 match it may have been more of Sam’s strength than Raiden’s weakness. With Metal Gear Solid 4 and the performances of Liquid Snake and Big Boss it’s expected of Raiden to get a nice boost, not like he needs it in this match. Analysis: The match itself won’t be interesting; the positions of all four characters have been pretty much decided though the performances of those characters for future matches will be watched. Master Chief needs to prove that he can contend with the strongest characters in the bracket and Raiden’s performance could add more confusion with his match against Big Boss and Kirby next round. Let’s start counting backwards. Professor Layton will be coming in last, no matter how popular you are in Japan if you aren’t known in North America you aren’t going to do well. GameFAQs may get voters from around the world, but over half the voters are from North America and the site viewers drop even further if you exclude English speaking countries. I see Layton starting off strong and then dropping throughout the day. The other newcomer will come in third. The only reason why Kain is in this contest was because Final Fantasy IV DS was released just weeks before the nomination page opened. Looking all the way back to the first match of this contest we saw Cecil not doing much with any kind of FFIVDS boost that he may have received. While it is possible that Kain is more popular than Cecil for him to beat Raiden he would have to destroy Cecil one on one excluding any SFF. |

| Just like he was in 2003 Raiden has been screwed
by his bracket placement, no matter what he does in this match Big Boss
will stop any upset chances dead in their tracks. However with Big Boss
beating Kirby handily today if Raiden does well enough he could cost
Big Boss a passage to round three. After watching the performances of
other Metal Gear characters Raiden will get a nice boost from MGS4. If
a character that isn’t technically in the game and a character that
only has a few scenes can get good boosts I’m pretty sure Raiden can
get a nice boost for himself. As obvious for the placing of the other characters it’s obvious that Master Chief will get first, the question is by how much? Halo 3 was released between his first and second round matches while I don’t believe he’ll be as dominate as he was from the second round on he’ll be performing much better than what he did in round 1 and even then it was already impressive. Master Chief could be the first non-noble nine character to break 50% in a four-way match though either way it will be close. Master Chief in first and Raiden in second, it will be a boring match though hopefully their performances will shed some light onto their future performances. Eh, you know, I know we're not typically indicative of the general
populace, but for cult RPGs I'd say we're closer than most things:
Cecil tends to do better than Kain in the popularity contests around
here. Cecil is a pretty popular main character, no Auron->Tidus
thing going here, I don't think. Cecil should be stronger, or at least
comparable in strength, to Kain. Given this is a much stronger 4 pack
than Cecil's... yeah. I'd be surprised if Kain did much better than

just killing the point that Cecil is very obviously the strongest of
