Mega Man would get stomped at this point by Vincent, Squall, Auron, and even Tifa would edge him. There's no point in arguing with wishful thinking.

Compare Mega Man and Snake's matches.

I did, and Snake still owns Mega Man unless you think Nero beats Vivi outright or at the very least comes close.

Can't tell if this post is serious or not but the only one's I'd contemplate over MM 1v1 is Squincent. Auron might be able to get the best of him in 4 ways... obviously depending upon the other characters. There's no chance in hell Tifa does it though.

Midna is arguably around Jill's strength though and who knows with Axel. and at least Edgeworth won't be Midgar Zolom level.

Tifa only beats him if he gets Star Force pictures or something.

Squall maybe because he's a complete monster nowadays. No way Vincent or Auron do anything seeing as they were both comfortably below Sonic in 2006 and neither have had reason to boost.

I can't wait until round 3 when all the Mega Man doubters will FINALLY be slapped in the face for 2 years of asshattery.

Mega Man's kinda gone 0 for 3 this year so far. it hasn't been awful, but given that he hasn't looked good already, expectations are pretty low and MM still can't reach them.

would Tifa beat Mega Man? I dunno. but I wouldn't say it's a lock that MM wins.

Mega Man's performance against Nero could have better, but I wouldn't say it was enough to put a match with Tifa into doubt or to hand a victory to Vincent, someone who had a disappointing first round match of his own.* And Zero stunk up the joint last year as well. He did noticably worse against Lloyd than he did two years previously (he only did *3%* better against Lloyd than 2005 Ryu H. would be expected to.) His match against Crono was impressive, I'll admit, but I'll also admit that it's entirely possible Crono is being overrated due to his ranking coming from his match in the Sprite Round.

*He did ~7% better against Falco than Sora did against Fox, and I doubt the characters are close enough to not make that look a little bad on Vincent's part.

Match XXIII: Axel Steel vs. Cloud Strife vs. Midna vs. Miles Edgeworth

Information:

Name: Axel Steel
Game/Series From: Guitar Hero series
2007 Results: Did not enter

Another character that was sort of hyped getting in to the bracket last year makes it in this year. Guitar Hero is one of the best new series created last generation and as a game or series I believe that it will do quite well, however characters aren’t really paid attention in the game so I’m not expecting much from him.

Name: Cloud Strife
Game/Series From: Final Fantasy VII
2007 Results: 1st in round 1, 1st in round 2, 1st in round 3, 1st in round 4, 2nd in round 5, 3rd in round 6

Cloud is the fourth and final character that reached the final round last year. Before the L-Block crisis it was believed that he would come in second though besides losing to a joke character like everyone did Cloud still showed his power match after match. With the change demographics will Cloud be able to defeat Link once more like he did back in 2003.

Name: Midna
Game/Series From: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2007 Results: 2nd in round 1, 4th in round 2

Twilight Princess was supposed to be the game of the Zelda series and one of the best games ever created. Of course with those kinds of standards it wasn’t hard to believe that Twilight Princess didn’t live up to the hype, though the game itself was great. Fast forward to last year’s contest and the entire board was surprised at the amount Midna lost to against Scorpion. Of course some of it was Scorpion’s strength, but we didn’t know that. Balthier was able to redeem himself this year; will Midna do the same or fall into the cracks of Fodder-Ville?

Name: Miles Edgeworth
Game/Series From: Phoenix Wright series
2007 Results: 3rd in round 1

After an embarrassing defeat against Bidoof, in a match of three fodders and Link Edgeworth decides to take another chance with the contest. Unless there is a massive failure that I don’t see I don’t see Edgeworth avoiding last.

Analysis:

Time to watch Cloud flex his muscles in front of three much weaker opponents, this is going to be a massacre. First may be a foregone conclusion, but there’s still some debate on who will get second.

Anyway Cloud comes first though like any curious contest goer, how much will he get? Final Fantasy characters across the board are doing well, from Zidane’s surprise upset to Balthier not embarrassing himself like he did last year. Cloud’s strength is comparable to Link’s and matching between their opponents I say that Cloud has the easier competition despite Link having Luke in his match.

Like last year Midna is the huge favourite to place in this match though this time it’s for second. While Balthier was able to look good a few matches ago that could be explained from the site becoming more Square friendly. The site however is less Nintendo friendly which isn’t helping Midna at all. While she didn’t meet up with our expectations she still performed half decent and looking at her opponents she can afford to be weaker. Just remember that there is a line that she can’t cross or else we may see another failed performance.

I’m not sure what to expect from Axel Steel. Guitar Hero is a really popular series owned by many people though they don’t play the game for the characters. Also Axel’s picture is going to play an important role in this match since many people won’t recognize his name and even with a decent picture the players probably pay more attention to the notes that they are playing then the background characters. The only way I see Axel winning this is if Midna takes a hard hit from the site becoming less Nintendo friendly.
charmander6000 | Posted 10/9/2008 8:17:56 PM | message detail
I didn’t think much of Edgeworth before his only match and I still don’t think much of him. The Phoenix Wright series is still very popular on the board and Phoenix was able to win his first match earlier this round though as seen from last year Edgeworth was crushed by Bidoof of all characters. I may not be giving him a lot credit despite the fact that he was in a match with two other DS characters, but even then the only way I see him coming out of this match alive is if both Midna and Axel flop.

While breaking 60% is really hard to do I think Cloud could manage it with his opponents. The other three characters will compete for the rest. I don’t see Axel doing anything to prevent Midna from taking second so any kind of upset would probably be Midna’s fault which is entirely possible.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Cloud > Midna

charmande6000’s Prediction: Cloud – 61.83%, Midna – 15.86%, Axel – 12.93%, Miles – 9.38%

Vincent and Squall, yeah.

Don't see it happening for Vincent. Squall maybe.

Sora impressed me this year, but there's no way he's as strong as he was in 2006.

Sora didn't impress me much. It seemed to be more about Fox sucking due to whatever happened to Nintendo this year and Chris Redfield having surprising strength.

Fine. Mega Man and co. has still shown NOTHING but signs of slipping, which should more than offset that.

Mega Man didn't seem like he slipped to me; he performed around expectations. And Mega Man X is the most successful new character in this contest. So I don't get where you're seeing a weakness throughout the Mega Man crew as a whole; Zero is the only one who has wobbled this year.

I can't believe people actually think 1v1's would be boring. We're so in line to have the most ass-kicking awesome fest out of a 1v1 character battle. Maybe the final few matches will be glaringly obvious, though Cloud > Link still isn't out of the question, but if the bracket is put together with any sort of though, we could have one of the most epic brackets ever.

Hmm, on second thought, Zero may not have dropped at all. Depends on how much you think Ryu could have gained over the year. Obviously he gained a chunk, so it's not too hard to stretch it a bit further and assume that Zero is where he was before. Given that there hasn't been a drop for Mega Man and X did very well, that seems to make more sense.
