Meta/L will be a blow-out one way or another. Arthas is going to murder Ike. I'm more worried about Arthas > Pikachu than I am about Ike > Arthas. Tidus/DK and Ness/Pac will be the only close matches I see for the rest of the round. Axel/Midna if Axel winds up weaker than I think he'll be Ocelot/Kratos if Ocelot really boosts from MGS4 |

Round 1 Division 3- Match 4 Balthier Bunansa Han Solo returns to probably get his ass kicked again. Seriously, he was easily the worst newcomer ever in the contests. Big Daddy The generic enemies from Bioshock make an appearance. Can he make a splash in his contest debut? Gordon Freeman Gordon returns and is given opponents he is used to losing to. He should be safe here. Scorpion Once again he is given a weak path. He gets so damn lucky with bracket placement it isn't even funny. Analysis: Going straight by the numbers, this should be an easy Scorpion > Gordon result. Gordon wasn't even close to Sub-Zero right after the release of The Orange Box, so he shouldn't be a threat for first here. Balthier was crappy enough last year that he shouldn't be a threat at all, but the Big Daddy raises interesting questions. Bioshock was both critically acclaimed and accepted by the mainstream, a potent combination. Will people vote a generic character just to see their game do well? Personally I think Gordon has second place locked up, but this match has been bothering me since day 1. Just a gut feeling we might see some fireworks tonight. I think one thing that's easy to overlook about Ike is how much of his
support comes from the SSB series. We've argued how favored Ike (and
Marth) are in SSBM/B as well as in their FE games...but I think one
thing people forget is that FE wouldn't be popular if it wasn't for
SSBM. Not only does SSB > FE happen as a series and SSBM/B > any
FE game, but SSB is how FE ever got somewhat popular... ...it didn't hurt Marth much last year, but Pikachu has a lot more in common with Ike than DK to Marth. Pikachu has been a casual fave through the entire SSB series while Ike is one of the general favorites in SSBB and Pokemon and FE are RPGs from Nintendo. I'm betting on Pikachu to win out pretty easily on this one. --- NRT winners: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong Country 2 Remember these games! |
