I can't see L-block not beating Meta-Knight, but Crono and Ryu I feel are too strong for him to do anything without half the internet behind him.

It's entirely possible we'll see him smash through everyone, but I doubt it.

Although, looking at the totals it was a random GlaDOS spike that shouldn't last. While not a joke character, she does seem to share a little bit of the joke character patterns of randomly spiking than dying.

People have been talking about how Vincent's performance today reflects on a Vincent/Crono rematch, but that match could still end up Samus>L-Block instead of Samus>Vincent/Crono.

And if the quarterfinal is Link vs. Mario vs. Samus vs. L-Block...ugh. Mario and Samus will get murdered there.

God, how wrong it sounds to say that.

I would hope that anyone anti-voting L-Block would be smart enough to throw their support behind Meta-Knight.

I don't understand why people would be so rabid for an L-Block repeat. Ha ha, it was a funny joke, and it completely destroyed the predictability factor of what had become a mostly predictable climax. If it starts to REPEAT, then L-Block would then face the conundrum of becoming what it sought to destroy!

It's kinda remarkable how often the precise 1 hour mark is a turning point in trends too.

Don't know if that will be the case here, but the 60 minute mark seems to be some sort of magic wall sometimes.

I'm very nervous about even Crono and Ryu's ability to take down L-Block. The problem is if L keeps his 28%, Crono and Ryu have to end up quite close together. Say L gets 28%, and Amaterasu gets pushed down to 7%, giving Crono/Ryu 65% to work with. If Ryu gets 28% and matches L-Block, Crono cannot go higher than 37%, or around 57% of the Crono/Ryu votes. I'd feel quite good about taking Crono to exceed that in a 1v1- Crono exceeded 57% on Bowser, who beat Ryu with 59%, after all. True, Ryu has impressed in these 4-ways, while Crono hasn't, and it's doubtful Bowser even gets close to 59% on Ryu now, but that still makes me nervous, because realistically, L-Block is going to the finals if he gets past this.

Unless The Dog manages to conjure scary support, I don't see any hope for Meta Knight. Heck, I imagine L-Block will keep things close to Ryu, and if he manages to do that, it's pretty much a free pass into the later rounds. L-Block won't keep it close with Ryu in Round 1 only to lose to him in Round 2.

But what made L into someone that lost to Kirby into someone that beat Link/Cloud is the fact that he had the whole internet behind him. 4chan, ytmnd, SA, all of them were rallying for L to win. His competition in the second round is probably the worst case scenario for him, 2 strong characters that will be relatively close to eachother, and complete fodder that won't eat up any percentage. Not to say it isn't possible, but my gut tells me not to go with the block.
Draco1214 | Posted 9/27/2008 10:20:56 PM | message detail
The thing is, I easily see The Dog conjuring up massive support...who doesn't recognize it?

That's the thing, I do think L-Block's most likely shot to lose is in the first round. The Dog will definitely leech away some of the block's support. The question is how much?

Meta Knight wasn't a slouch last year, and now that the game is actually out he'll be even better.

Makes me wish I took Meta Knight in round 1. Too much BLOCQUEFEAR I guess

I'm hoping The Dog gets his laughing sprite at least!

That's the only thing that even remotely resembles L-Block's "obvious joke that needs no explanation" inherent strength. It's a faint shadow of that strength, but it's enough to leech a couple votes.

The Dog will definitely leech away some of the block's support.

The degree of leeching shouldn't be anywhere near as severe as what was seen in the bonus match. The bonus match had no serious options available, which led a majority to side with the only Nintendo option in the poll. This upcoming match will only have one joke character that could possibly leech votes from L-Block.

And Meta Knight did impress last year, but he did so by beating a couple of Nintendo characters that occupied the very last rung on the "Nintendo fans care" ladder. He's up against serious competition this time around.

In theory, Meta Knight should be right up there with Ike and Snake in the "If Brawl boosted anyone at all..." category.

It would be a little ironic if he was the first Brawl character to not advance given how disappointing the lot has been!

Key words: right now

Falco may be getting 38.71% on Vincent right now (just under Leon Kennedy-2k6), but I figure Vincent will probably double him by the end of the match (just under Gordon-2k6, pre-Portal). I would also take Scorpion > Gordon today, both one-on-one and in this format.

Falco does look good right now, don't get me wrong, but I'm not convinced it's enough to advance yet. I'll have to either see it myself or see Falco hold onto practically everything he has now until the end of the match.
