Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 572

if you're relying on a youtube video to boost a PC NPC I think we're in big trouble. like Kleenex said, it's not impossible, but Phoenix could arguably hang with Diablo and Deckard cannot possibly be close to him.

I give Geno a better chance to beat Phoenix. Deckard's biggest strength is that it's essentially three Nintendo characters in his pack.

You seriously think Phoenix is getting 34% on Ganondorf?

Seriously?

No. I don't think Phoenix would beat Diablo

but Deckard Cain will be lucky to be half a Diablo.

I'll probably do something pretty dumb here soon. I'm moving home which means I will start hanging out with my best friend soon. He's the guy that helped me steal the shopping cart from Wal-Mart.

2.8mil worldwide for the entire series. They don't have single game sales where I was looking for them though.

That's through 11 titles, apparently.

think I remember the original selling like 60k.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was very hard to find in stores shortly after its North American release because of a shortage due to unexpectedly high demand.[3] Capcom shipped more units in March 2006.[4] They later issued a new shipment in June 2006, which sold out within a week. As of February 2007, Capcom has shipped 100,000 copies of Phoenix Wright.[5]

The funny thing, I'm thinking Bowser is going to be the first Brawl character to exceed his expectations rather than disappoint.

Well, I know Luigi didn't exactly exceed expectations, but he didn't disappoint either. He pretty much did what he was supposed to do. Liquid's the impressive one here.

And at least Sho broke 10,000 votes, more than those TotA characters can say!

I like your stats, KP. I think they've got Wario and Zack too low, personally, but your guess on them is as good as any. Your 2nd match stats are nonsense, IMO, but there's not much to be done about it without factoring in LFF. For the 3rd match, I honestly think using Duke as a base makes more sense than Kefka given Kefka's horrible pic - it would be like using Ganon's stats as a base for a pig Ganon match, IMO, which is why Marth is way higher than he should be.

The fourth match is the hardest to figure out, X-stat wise, but I think you're on the right track with using a high Guybrush. Perhaps something closer to his '04 X-stat value would be even better (not that I think stats that old have much value, but the higher Guybrush goes, the more sense the match seems to make).

Just my 2c. Your stats are a good starting point.

Thanks, smitelf, and I agree that different methods could have been taken (and I might redo them with those Duke/Guybrush suggestions just to see how it turns out). Div 1 ius just really hard to figure out.

Today's match should be much easier to do, and be more accurate. Luigi seems pretty static from last year.

Luigi – 50.00%
Liquid Snake – 45.45%
Roxas – 32.30%
Sho Minamimoto – 16.84%

Liquid's come back down to earth a whole lot with the day vote, and man, Sho's been consistent as it gets for the second half of this match.

All right, Roxas at least made it to 19%!

I'm surprised Luigi never reached 40% (Well, he's still got time, but at this rate, he won't make it) considering he's been flirting with it all day long. He's been over the 39.5% mark for nearly 12 hours now.

Based on Duke 2007:
Marth: 22.59
Duke Nukem: 20.87
Niko: 18.59
Kefka: 17.85

I kind of like this version better.

Based on Guybrush 2004:
Altair: 24.88
Lucario: 15.78
Isaac: 15.03
Guybrush: 10.54

Not sure how I feel about this one. Altair seems too high (although he did do very well).

Up to you guy's discretion, I guess.

okay, the words "constant Guybrush" should never be used. the problem with these stats - well, besides the fact that stats in four-ways are highly dependent on who's in the poll - is that they're holding weak characters constant and hoping everyone else falls in line. that's very, very inaccurate - it may end up working, but I'd chalk it up to luck as much as any statistical accuracy.

this contest is nonsensical thanks to the format. combine that with 4-way x-stats being some weird thing that I don't think very many people even understand and you're just grasping.

I don't say this to mock you, it's just... do you even know how the stats are calculated?

the idea of x-stats, in my mind, is to have accurate reflections of strengths. these things are just wildly inaccurate and you'd be better off assigning educated guesses to someone and going from there.

tranny, I wouldn't touch making the real X-stats with a ten foot pole. I tried to read how they were originally made and it made my head spin. Heck, the mock stats I'm making now are based on a calculator someone else made. I'm not trying to act like these are official or anything.

Although I disagree with the assigning educated guesses thing. That has a high chance of being woefully inaccurate as well.

Although I disagree with the assigning educated guesses thing. That has a high chance of being woefully inaccurate as well.

Which was exactly his point... it's just as inaccurate as taking an educated guess, so it's not really worth anything. Go ahead and continue to do them if you're having fun with it, but there's so many things wrong with it, it's essentially worthless.

Also the question was posed before, what Bowser would have to get to make me sure he advances next round, and I'm going to say 58%+. Might seem insanely high, and there's no way I'm expecting him to get there, but with the competition he has, and how Luigi and Liquid just looked in today's match, anything short of complete domination isn't going to make me feel good about Bowser.

Jesus, if Bowser got 65% tomorrow I'd consider him a lock for the finals. Even 58% would mean he gets out of his division without breaking a sweat. You guys realize that the only characters to break 50% last year were Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Mario, Samus, Snake, and Mega Man, right? 60% is just Link and Cloud and 70% is Link by a hair. It's really hard to increase your percentage once you get up there.

characters aren't locked into a certain percentage though. the opponents have a lot to do with it.

again, an inferior Mario RPG character, a handheld lawyer sim character and an NPC from a PC game. that's pretty down there as far as strength goes. I can't see Phoenix breaking 25%, I can't see Geno doing well with Bowser in the poll, and I can't see a PC NPC doing well. all that's left is Bowser.

I agree that 60% is insane and out of reach, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Bowser blew us away here.

Actually, I'll revise that. If Bowser manages 48% tomorrow, he'll be looking very good next round. If he gets 44% or higher, he'll have a shot. Any lower than that, and IMO Bowser is in trouble next round. Maybe 44% sounds arbitrary, but when you see where Luigi is here against better competition (~40%), 44% seems like a reasonable thing to ask from Bowser to stay in the running.
