Eh, a lot of people figured Division 1 would be a giant mess. Yeah, I don't think this is symbolic of the entire contest being crazy.
We had 6 upsets/Near Upsets in a row at the beginning of last contest,
and with a couple notable exceptions nothing seemed that crazy in
regards to the established characters. Also, has anyone else noticed that these polls seems very topheavy? During the weekdays, polls usually reach their halfway point between 12:30 and 1:00 PM, but the first two polls reached their peaks around noon. Upon further review, Mega/KOS-MOS/Diablo/Arthas also had a noon half way point, so this is probably, just something that happens during the first couple matches*. Very curious that every match so far has gotten very similar votals as well. It'll be interesting to see how that changes throughout the contest. *Although by the 3rd match last year, things were back to normal. --- "The builders never understand how their creations truly feel."--Shadow the Hedgehog |

Something's just struck me after looking at a graph of votes rather than percentages. Guybrush is not affected by what time of the day it is.
His graph is a straight line right the way throughout the day, whereas
all the others have a larger board vote, smaller night vote, larger day
vote. That's crazy. He gets the same number of votes from 3am - 4am as
he does from 10am - 11am. --- |

I'm talking about votes, not percentages. His percentage goes up during
the times when there are fewer votes overall, because he still gets the same number of votes. Creepy. --- |

Eh. Unexpected as these first four matches have been, I could've stretched to make cases for 3/4 of them and even considered
3/4 of them. (Duke is the one that totally blindsided me, but it's
Kefka after all) It's an unpredictable division by nature, that doesn't
mean that the contest is suddenly just going to be like "NOTHING MAKES

So, MM9 is out tomorrow, at least on the Wii, and will soon be released
on the other consoles. MMX's first round match takes place on the day
of its PSN release (Sept 25), and Mega MAn's first match will be soon
after the release of the XBLA version. What effect do you guys think

that all of the most unlikely upsets are actually going to occur No, not really. The gambler's fallacy and its inverse have only to do with independent events. You know, I'm thinking this isn't particularly a case of Nintendo
disappointing rather than non-Nintendo gamer demographics have grown much
more in proportion to Nintendo. Yes, Wii ownership is high, plus there
has been Brawl/Galaxy/Mario Kart and whatnot, but we're talking a small
amount of games for Nintendo, and the biggest one of them (Brawl) already
brought in tons of fans to the site just in terms of pure anticipation
of the game. The release of the game as a result might not have added that much to the site since a ton of Brawl fans were already on the site talking about it. However, my main thought points to the tons of games for PS3/360. I'm not going to waste time trying to list them all, but between big releases for both consoles, plus the tons of multiplatform releases, it might be a simple case of the demographic balancing out due to rise of the PS3/360, not necessarily Nintendo weakening. Of course, I'm just speaking off the top of my head. I don't exactly remember if the "Got Console" polls support this or not... But yeah, if that's the case, it could be the explanation of everything! You can be stereotypical and say that PS3/360 gamers love FPSs and therefore easily choice The Duke because they like BALLS OF STEEL! Or perhaps Duke Nukem and Niko Bellic LFF'd each other amongst that fanbase and Kefka just really sucks balls (of steel). Not a bad thought there, mnm. I don't know if that's what today's match
is showing (these dudes are still less than 10% off from Guybrush), but
I always figured we might see more of a move toward the non-Nintendo
demographic here, especially after that disastrous E3 showing -- the
polls that came after that were pretty ugly. Here lately it seems like
the 360 is this site's console of choice, despite the ownership polls. Gotta see some more matches, though. --- let's mosey |

The video game market just keeps expanding, and while Wii I think is

I wouldn't call Liquid's pic terrific,
but at least no one else looks super appealing. Luigi is his normal
goofy self, Sho is actually kinda drawn like Liquid, and Roxas looks

Here lately it seems like the 360 is this site's console of choice, despite the ownership polls. Well ownership is just a part of it. Like I said, besides those 3 games, there hardly have been any big hits for the Wii, and in the case of Brawl, a lot of those fans probably were already on the site just for hype reasons alone (I actually saved screenshots of the Brawl Board activity over the course of the hype, although I don't remember where I put them, heh). I actually just did the numbers, taken from the "Got Console" polls of Summer 07 and 08. PS3: 14% => 27% 360: 41% => 50% Wii: 51% => 60% PSP: 33% => 38% DS: 66% => 64% Nothing too surprising: The PS3 had the most to gain. 360, Wii, and PSP steadily gained, and DS is already "maxed out". But then couple that info with the amounts of games that have been coming out for each system and the contest results might actually make sense outside of Nintendo just "disappointing". I see significant Luigi underperformance coming up here. I don't see why... that's Luigi. People who like Luigi should totally want to vote for that. And really... it's Luigi. You know, speaking of that pic, I fail to see why SBallin' decided to choose that
Luigi pic over the one that KP submitted
