Some Common Stat Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote, because the Zelda fanbase so clearly sided with him. However, take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make total sense. This has caused a few SFF jokes, with LordOfDabu's "Some Frivolous Factor" being the funniest of them. X-Stats - Short form of Extrapolated Statistics, aka the mathematical "strength" of a contestant that can be determined based on their performance in any given matchup. See above for a detailed explanation of the x-stat process. rSFF (Reverse Same Fanbase Factor): An unproven theory that states that an SFF match will feature the expected weaker character receiving more benefit from SFF than the stronger character. For example, all evidence supports Samus being indirectly stronger than Mario, yet Mario blew Samus away during their 2005 match. That's rSFF in action, and the one case we have of the weaker statistical character winning with it. For other information, surf the contest sites a bit. Comments about Shadow last year copied from the last topic: He lost updates to PYRAMID HEAD. And Pyramid Head did a hell of a lot better against Auron than he was expected to. Did Auron do terrible for doing substantially worse on Pyramid Head than Bowser did? If Shadow's performance on Auron was terrible than so was Tails', Scorpion's, Alucard's and Ness's. --- You need to meet someone at a garden, or a movie or something. Somewhere classy. From 44.90% directly against Mario to, if this result holds, 19.84% directly against Link. That's got to be the greatest fall from grace in Contest history, right? This is backlash from the Sonic franchise not putting out a good game since Sonic 3 & Knuckles. both adventure games are better than any of the 2d stuff from sonic. |

Shadow was at... Tidus level in 2k4, and look at what happened to
Tidus. Then we didn't see him for three years. That's plenty of room to
fall, and then there's Sonic characters stinking up the joint in this
format. Yeah, we didn't see Shadow for three years...but we did see him last year, and as others have pointed out, he did appear to do better than Zidane then. And yes, Sonic characters suck in this format - they also sucked last year, so that couldn't have been the cause of a sharp decline for Shadow. Is it possible for a character to fall this far in a year? Yes, sure. But it seems less likely to me than Link being an SFF machine. Shadow has always gotten his popularity from looking like Sonic (obviously it's not for his good games *cough*), and the Sonic series as a whole, especially Sonic himself, have grown ever more entwined with Nintendo of late. So when faced with the choice of believing this to be the result of explainable SFF or a random drop for no particular reason, I elect to think this is the former. --- Official Queen ***** of the Universe! these two are pretty similar to Frog/Axel, except Zidane probably
