i cant see all this coming from Crisis Core. maybe i'm just cynical
about voters, but i think this has more to do with Zack himself than it

The thing about Crisis Core is that, while I feel like it's where Zack
is drawing a lot of the love from, it supplements FFVII. And yeah, he
was only in that game for an optional five minutes, but it was a really
interesting and memorable optional five minutes that Crisis Core
expands on really well. So even though most of his character is in
Crisis Core, if it didn't originate in FFVII it wouldn't mean anything.
So it's hard to compare to other handheld characters. --- Attention, all yoctograms! (It's x2) DIE! |

You know what, I take it back. I don't mind seeing the Tales characters
in the contest. It's entertaining to watch them fail so completely and
utterly. Really makes those Tales fanboys re-think their horrible

Well, I think this match is a combination of things. One being that Nintendo voters really
don't care for Wario much. You could kind of see it last year, but this
is undeniable proof. The other being that I underestimated Zack and CC
obviously, but I'd really like to see him in Round 2 before I say how

I called Zack winning this one through pure apathy toward the other
three, and I don't think I'm too far off. I'm glad to see he's doing
well. I was really afraid he was going to bomb. I'm hesitant to call
him the favorite against Shadow because, again, his competition is
pretty crappy. At the very least, based on last year's fourpack with
Jade, Zack is stronger than Balthier and Ada Wong, and Wario's about on
their level. Maybe that's kinda stretching it, but still. Also, I'm surprised Cecil is doing so badly. If Zack and Cecil are hindering each other right now, watch out, Shadow! For the record, Zack is getting 87.33% on Jade, 71.39% on Cecil (Whoo, Tidus level!), and 56.59% on Wario. Wario is getting 84.10% on Jade and 65.69% on Cecil. Cecil is getting 73.42% on Jade. I think beforehand Shadow was the one to beat, I'd give Zack that title
right now. But Shadow has a chance to impress before then, if he goes

It hasn't been brought up since the match started, but this is the
first time in ten contests that a Nintendo entrant has not won the
opening poll. Appropriately enough, it's Final Fantasy VII that ends

Also, it looks like FFIV has a bad day vote as well, though it doesn't
quite to be as abysmal as FFVI's. Of course, that won't really show up

Zidane wasn't far off Ness last year, I'd assume Wario is a step below

I think beforehand Shadow was the one to beat, I'd give Zack that title right now. Same here. After a performance like this, it would take a major collapse for Zack not to move on, and apparently, FFVII really really really wants to make it clear that it doesn't collapse at anything. According to Leon, Zack gets ~56% on Mario in a standard match, and this is despite his being hindered by a 3-way voting split. Remove Jade and Cecile (especially Cecile), and I can easily picture Zack approach the low 60%s, which is almost what Shadow scored against Wario five years ago. Now, keep in mind that in 2008 we have what is certainly a stronger Wario and a weaker Shadow than we did in 2003. Combining all those factors, you have Zack standing as a near-lock even if Link SFF doesn't hurt Shadow more, which is what many were banking on when they took Zack out of the division. --- Yoblazer: NO LIMITZ Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your world! |

Yeah, I still think Marth is favored for the win two days from now.
Wario would have had one hell of a time trying to equal his performance
against DK last year, and Marth seems like he'd have a broader appeal
to Nintendo fans, at least compared to fatass Wario, although that

I'm interested to see how if at all being in Brawl will affect Shadow.
It might sound like nothing but it's bringing him a new and crucially
the core audience of gamefaqs which will certainly do no harm. Although
boost or not it'll be difficult to exploit that with Wario and

Also, I expressed concern about this when KP made the pic, but I'm wondering if Cecil isn't getting hurt by the picture. If you haven't played FFIV DS, you'll have a hard time recognizing who that is, especially since I doubt a lot of people realize "Harvey" is the last name. marth and wario aren't in the same category really. marth gets
literally all his strength from smash, while apparently by today, wario
doesn't get much at all. in fact i think zack doing well proves marth

Look at Marth against DK last year, and look at Wario against Fox and
Captain Falcon last year. Tell me which looks more impressive. Seriously, Fox is at DK's level at best. Wario doesn't take SFF well, and Marth seems to take it well. Then again, he WAS facing DK. After catching up from last night, two things: I really hope Luke
shatters some kind of record tomorrow after seeing Jade again today,
and I'd take Wario > Balthier because I don't think Ada would beat
Wario (at least not easily). Here's a question: I know none of us are impressed with Cecil right now, but would Cecil be able to make a notably better match against Wario one-on-one? Zack's got ~43% right now that would probably favor Cecil and -- for what it's worth -- I would think Cecil would take more than half of Jade's ~6% too. I'm sure we'd all agree Wario still wins since he has a solid lead on him, but would Cecil be able to make a match out of it at all? yeah, but it's still a Brawl Mario character vs Cecil. doubling Cecil
isnt exactly out of the question. Peach managed to break 60% on a

Nevertheless, Marth has far more appeal to a casual voter than Wario does. About Fox/DK: I would take Fox over DK -- I figure he's both naturally stronger and doesn't get phased by SFF so easily. DK was destroyed by Mario before his big Mario-boost in 2k5 nearly as bad as Ness was in 2k5, plus he looked like he failed to SFF Marth much and was easily dismantled by Kirby. Fox has SFF'd Pikachu, pre-SSBB MK, and pre-SSBB Wario before (and I think he would still SFF MK/Wario this year). Though he did get destroyed by Mario last year, Sephiroth was also in the poll and it was the sprite round. He was also destroyed by Link in 2k3, but he still did almost as well against Link as DK against Mario.
